Philippe Coutinho

This one is getting great. Paul Joyce reporting(the most reliable scouser journalist) saying that Coutinho has told Klopp that he won't play for Liverpool again.

Also that Liverpool bid was 82m straight fee plus the rest of 36m were in addons.

Literally the best and funniest scenario. No money and he refuses to play for them. I love this guy.

From the Liverpool ITKs here boasting about getting Keita and VvD to losing their best player. This hasn't been a great transfer window for Liverpool fans.

Selling Sanchez for 35m and signing Coutinho for >120m after 3 years. Mismanagement case study potential.

So apparently it's around 80 million plus add-ons like him winning the Ballon d'or and them winning the CL. I'd tell them to get fecked too.

 Madness to turn that down. He's not worth that, not even close.

When you take into consideration the cost & quality of his replacements (Lanzini being speculated at £45m?), I'd say we're doing the right thing tryna hold onto him if...

... this is true.

Is he good enough to justify the second highest transfer fee of all time? Of course not. He's a very good player who can be borderline world class on his day, and while those days are few & far between, I can imagine his consistency stepping up a notch if he were to play with Barcelona.

For some reason, I fear Barca might turn to Martial if this fails and Jose will sell Martial at that price.

Barca fans would eat him for breakfast. He might not be happy about this but it's the best thing for him. Big fish in a medium sized pond.

WTF are Barca playing at, 36m for Paulinho and 115m for Coutinho. Football is broken
It reminds me of last year's NBA free agency when all teams suddenly got $24M extra to spend on salary per year and nearly all of them decided to spend it on random average players in order to use full cap space. The outcome of that was vast majority of these team being left with overpaid players they cannot get rid of, and future contracts coming down the very next year because teams realized it wasn't actually worth that.

I believe Liverpool refuses to sell boils down to more on face saving than coutinho being irreplaceable. I'm born into a Liverpool supporting family. My family, relatives, close friends are all Liverpool supporters. I'm the odd one out. Most of them are fine with FSG selling provided they get a huge fee for him. They seem to value Mane and Firminho more than Coutinho.

To be fair if Liverpool were going to spend £65m out of that £115m on van Dijk they might as well keep Coutinho.

Didn't Chelsea pay around 25m for Pedro a couple years ago? I doubt Barca will ever let a fringe player go for those prices again.

turning that money down? hope Barca walk away and leave them all to swim in a toxic mess. If he has now said he wont play for them again Barca should put a fresh offer of £50m and say take it or leave it. Farce of a club

Barca are in a tough position. They got an incredible amount of money for Neymar, but now the whole world knows it, and how desperate they are to replace him, so want to absolutely fleece them.

Liverpool telling Barca to get fecked, then Coutinho doing a Costa, would be absolutely brilliant.

For us, that's the best scenario by far. 'Pool lose a player for an unknown amount of time (until sold, or until he heels) but get feck all money. While Barca don't strengthen and we can continue to laugh at how they've fallen from their previous heights. Win-fecking-win.

If Coutinho goes golfing for 3-4 months, like Tevez, it will be beyond hilarious.

Barcelona's board are even crazier than Liverpool's. Coutinho is a good - not - great player. There is no way he's worth anything close to that insane amount. If they're willing to spend that much surely they can find a few other good players from somewhere else? Absolute madness.

I'm glad Liverpool have rejected the offer cause I don't want them having that much money to spend:D But seriously, I would take the money and drive him to Barcelona if I were them. Crazy stuff.

What? Martial won't go for that fee. 50m tops.
Your opinion of Martial's talent is funny.
IIn a world where sigurdsson and walker is going for 50m, martial is worth more despite last seasons dissapointment.
NO way is Coutinho worth twice + more than Martial.
Davidson Sanchez from the dutch league is going for 45m pound. Am pretty sure United won't even sell as this market will get even worse.
Signing squard players is now 50m pounds.

Selling Sanchez for 35m and signing Coutinho for >120m after 3 years. Mismanagement case study potential.

Well, not really. £35m at the time was more than a fair price. Nobody could have foreseen the level of inflation that we've experienced these past couple of windows. Plus there are other factors at play too.

What? Martial won't go for that fee. 50m tops.

Right now I'm worried that you'd be proved right. Which would be an abysmal fee for him considering how much we spent on him and his potential. Let's hope it doesn't happen and he stays here and reaches that potential.

Who was the Liverpool fan who was on here repeatedly refusing even the vague notion that he would go this summer?

Probably feels a tiny bit silly now, as the best result is he does go, and for huge money.
Otherwise you have him hanging around gutted, probably a bad influence, and you have a heck of a job getting him back on side

That's a joke offer considering they got the €222m, everybody is aware there are in a very bad situation and desperate.

I'd tell them €120m without any addon BS or feck off.

Or if I was Barcelona I'd prefer to just get the transfer done. We all know they'll pay up eventually so why waste time if you're them, get it done as soon as possible.
Do we really? I'm starting to get more and more convinced that they won't. Barca want to use a good chunk of the neymar money for Espai Barca, spending €150M for Coutinho would mean either no Dembele, or no monet into Espai Barca. The people in charge are Nunistas, they won't make deals just because they need to. Puplic opinion in barcelona doesn't seem too happy at the prospect of the club paying €150M each for Coutinho and Dembele either...

We. Want. The. Money.

But first, Show. Us. The. Money. The. Real. Neymar. Money.

You may have said this already, but what do you think is the correct price for him? Someone here said 82+36 (addons) is what was offered. What would be the price where you'd want to sell at?

This is great. A week ago he'd only leave if it was an amicable split. This seems fairly far from it now. It's going to get to the stage where you will have to take the money. Barca know the player totally wants to come so they aren't going to offer too much more id say. The ball is firmly in Liverpools court. I'd sell sell sell. Mahrez could slot in there fairly handy for 1/3 of the price too. Buy a proper striker whoever that may be? Belotti? Anything is better than having a player who clearly wants out.

I guess with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon that might be one reason why Liverpool could fancy testing his bluff.

As I guessed, a big chunk of the money reserved for possible later payouts which be dependent on appearances and performances.
Coutinho is nailed into that Brazil squad no matter what - it's not a vintage Brazil side.

Liverpool make plenty of money and just got a massive boost from the new PL deal.

They will make 85% of what Barca make this year.
Doubt that. Barca's revenue for 16/17 is €708M

85% of that would be in the region of €550/600M, seriously doubt Liverpool got anywhere close to that...

They really should take the money and invest in their defence and midfield.

It has clearly become about principle and pride for Liverpool now, they don't want to appear like a selling club.
