Philippe Coutinho

Reading through Twitter im getting the impression Liverpool fans think Coutinho is acting in bad faith,

Is that not what they have been hoping Van Dijk and Kieta would do all summer ?
Of course.

On this hypocrisy thing. Firstly, fans are hypocrites. That's part of the job. Secondly, is it inconsistent to want your players to be loyal while hoping coveted players aren't loyal? I don't think it is. The whole enterprise is to build the best team you can. The hypocrisy comes when fans start to moralise about loyalty when they don't expect it of potential signings.

But but he is one of them, half scouser really.. Et tu Brute..

Well this was incredibly unsurprising to everyone except Liverpool fans. Amazing how they convince themselves their best players don't harbour thought of higher ambitions / better clubs. They do it to themselves every season and it's always hilarious.

But according to certain fans they only have shit players that could not get into any top side or United, so obviously they are blind-sided, when the 100 million dollar offers for the shit players come. :p

I genuinely don't think this saga is to do with Liverpool's transfers. He wants to go to Barca. That would not have changed had Liverpool gotten deals through.

Brazilians always want to end up in Spain, it's like the dreamland to them

I'm not convinced coutinho is at the level that is being discussed, but once Barca flirted with him there was only going to be 1 outcome

€150m for Coutinho - sure, why not? Hell, make it a nice round €200m; saves a bit of messing about.
If this is genuine he is gone, Barca will spend that money without thinking. It would be too embarrassing to have sold Neymar and end up without their targets.

Its sad from a liverpool perspective. But it is the reality of modern football.

Let the lad go with a good heart, it will attract others, that you(as a club) respect your players.

For the last whatever number of days it is since we knew Neymar was sold, liverpools attention should of been who to replace him with (as i have said since then)

I'd be pretty embarrassed if my club spent €150,000,000 on Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool cannot sell.

They would have to find a suitable replacement willing to join them for a decent price and there are only 2.5 weeks left.

They cannot.

Once again I do not think he would be a good fit for the Neymar or Iniesta role.

Likewise.

If Barca are even considering paying £135m for him like Liverpool are apparently asking, they have to take it even this close to the start of the season. That's ridiculous money for somebody who is 25 and still largely inconsistent and probably has maximized his potential.

Apparently Coutinho has said that he doesn't want to play for liverpool again. no going back. I don't know how to search for tweets. If anyone does, then can you please find the source?

It infuriates me just how often he is allowed to cut back onto his right foot and curl an effort into the far corner. It's a massive part of his game but defenders seemingly allow him to do it. Surely he will be figured out eventually.

He will instantly go up a level playing with Barcelona than with Liverpool. I think people on here underrate Coutinho a little. At his best he's fecking immense.

People are still saying the same for Robben tbf. :p

Maybe, kind of still illustrates my point that with Liverpool at the moment though he probably isn't going to get any better. In that sense, wouldn't it be better to cash in (especially if his head is elsewhere and he doesn't want to be there) if they're being offered silly money and build the rest of the squad?

If they hold on to him the problem could get bigger. what if Barca go by Eriksen or Alli, as an example. Next year Coutinho can't go any where, Barca don't want him, Madrid dont need him, that would leave PSG as his only option. So Liverpool come 4th, dont win a trophy and he is stuck with staying at Liverpool.

Barcelona will either get him this year or move on, next year that 220m might be worth half what it is today, Barca need to spend their money in this market.

Don't think so. Liverpool would be fecked if they were to sell Coutinho imo. Firstly, at his best there isn't many in the league better than him. Secondly, the season has already started, who could they bring in that's just as good a replacement? Not to add the player wouldn't have as much time to gel with the squad etc.

I would be delighted if he left Liverpool, it'd take them down a notch.

If half of all these rumours is true, Barca are a vile, disgusting bunch. As much as I might dislike Liverpool and as much shadenfreude I'll find in seeing them lose their best player, the way Barcelona's agents are pushing this transfer is unacceptable.

Some big ifs there. He writes for ThisisAnfield, that's all that needs to be said.

Feck em. He is desperate to leave and they're not letting him leave, so it's only expected both the player and the club pursuing him will try and force Liverpool's hand.

I don't agree with clubs forcing unsettled players to stay, but that's a discussion for another time.

I agree, if that's true then that is pretty vile behaviour.

I am aware of the big ifs, but with numerous sources reporting on Coutinho not wanting to play for scousers again, I think there might be some truth in what Williams claims.

"No way Coutinho wants to leave, he had an interview once where he said he loved it here."

"Great statement from the club on Coutinho, I consider the matter closed now"

"What transfer request"

"Transfer requests don't matter (even though they did a fortnight ago for Van Dyke)"

Just imagine you had €220million in the bank. If something exceptionally unlucky happened and you ended up with ONLY €70 million left, how would you feel?

Did similar thing with Mascherano in 2010 the night before we played City away and the transfer window shut. Hodgson left him out the squad because of the old "not in the right frame of mind" bullshit line.

Coutinho not mucking around and getting things done. Do the same Perisic, you cnut.

i wasn't expecting him to force it after FSG's statement.

No one denies that he wants to go. It's Barcelona and he wants to win things.
