Philippe Coutinho

Those are some dirty tricks from Barcelona in my estimate. Either that or Coutinho's "boy next door" looks and smile have really fooled me into thinking he wouldn't be the sort of character to brood "for months" as claimed.

I think Barca have turned his head and are acting as his kitchen cabinet. It just looks to have their fingerprints on it.

fsg like all Americans will fold if you dangle enough cash
Who knows? But if you're going down that route, Americans also play hardball in business so won't want to be seen to be press ganged into any deal.

If you issue a steadfast position only to fold soon after it sets an unhelpful precedent. On the contrary, the 2013 Suarez example indicates stubborn Yanks.

Things have changed since that statement though to be fair, hard to see him playing for them again unless he backtracks massively.
Could the statement not have been designed to precede the request from Coutinho? FSG getting in there first in the knowledge that it was going to be a tricky day.

Pretty much the same shit as Ronaldo to Real more or less....except well Liverpool aren't going to compete in 6 trophies to keep him happy for a year.

Liverpool, United, whoever all guilty of turning heads of players from teams clearly below them, don't be upset when Real or Barca come calling for your players, internally at least, externally, completely abuse it to get massive money to pay for the obscene fees that Liverpool will now have to pay to get VVD/Keita. Done and dusted..

This is now becoming a very aggressive process from Barca. That Klopp/Coutinho story is almost certainly an exaggeration or simply false. At the very least it doesn't add up. Coutinho signed a new contract that only came into effect in July. And the line about not happy about his position. Eh? Klopp has literally built a team around him. He's moved him into midfield.

It's simply part of the 'dance' but to create this divisive narrative appears transparent.

It's not certain how this story ends, but I actually see this causing FSG to remain steadfast rather than fold.
Neymar fought a teammate in front of the cameras.

It's all a show. But he is doing his best to make his stay untenable.

Do they really expect him to be the long term Iniesta replacement? They seem to be completely different type of players. Coutinho seems to be better playing closer to the goal.

I'm genuinely baffled as to why Liverpool hierarchy are acting surprised. Regardless of what he was, prior to moving to Liverpool, he was ALWAYS destined to move. With all due respect, it's quite simply this sense of self - entitlement, that only a Liverpool fan can testify to, which is raising it's very loud head.

Take the money for the player who wants to leave and be done with it. The necessity for media grabbing attention and a vine, hell - bent on acting the victim in this scenario, is so bloody annoying.

Love what's unfolded between PSG-Barca-Liverpool- Liverpool try their usual dirty bag of tricks with VVD, get rejected, Barca do a Barca and unsettle Coutinho, but lose Neymar completely against their own will. They should end up with Coutinho who's not half of the player Neymar is and Liverpool will be left with nobody.

Too glorious.

yep, even if he doesn't leave, theres one hell of a stink there if he remains. Now moaning about Klopp,

Hopefully this transfer drags on for as long as possible, and gets even more messy to keep LFC firmly engaged. I'd rather Coutinho stayed if it means they get no new players, rather than he go and they sign even just VVD. He's not the concern, when their defence isn't being improved.

The transfer request and Coutinho not training ( maybe down to a back problem), have made it possible for FSG to sell him to Barcelona. They can now say they tried everything to keep him and since his heart and his head are no longer at Liverpool, they got the best price possible for him.

Am i the only one who kinda expects PSG to hijack the deal? They have players 'pool might want afterall...

Don't ask me about whether it is karma, as I might say something friendly ;) Still in faux-outrage mode with LFC supporters. But I suppose what goes around comes around, although the behaviour of Coutinho and his agent have been somewhat better than VVD. As soon as Barca came knocking, there was an inevitability in how things have played out. From Klopp saying not for sale, to FSG saying it, to the transfer request.

As a football supporter (the game rather than the money/business side of it) I am bored of the players stamping their feet and expecting to get their way. They make commitments and they should expect to be held to them.

Although I do understand what you mean about players having too much power, a transfer request is simply like handing in a notice to your job. The big difference however between handing in your notice and handing in a transfer request is the millions the club are making with you leaving.

Ultimatley, A Football club is a work place and I am sure we have all experienced working somewhere with a grumpy sod, who just complains and is not happy to be there. Those people bring everyone else down and the position Liverpool are in with the competition they face just for top 4, it is something they can't afford to have happen.

Best bet for Liverpool now is to get the deal done ASAP to leave as much negotiating time for them to pick up on a replacement/other targets.

One additional bonus of this happening so late is that all selling clubs will know Liverpool got money and will smell the desperation coming from them.

They might very well end up with an underwhelming replacement for a hugely inflated fee.

Such a delightful situation.

I think they'll go back and spend all the Coutinho money on that Keita fella.

Possibly. Although using a family member is obviously deliberate. He becomes one step removed from the story and accusations. If Liverpool refuse to sell Coutinho hasn't burned bridges.

Perisic the only one wanted to stay there

this makes me think he's seen how this summer has gone in addition to previous summer's and he's decided we've shown a lack of ambition and he wants the move now. Had we signed VVD and Keita he might still have wanted a move who knows, but the absolutely farcical nature of this window has probably made the decision a lot easier for him .

I'm pretty sure Coutinho isn't turning down Messi, Suarez and Iniesta for VVD and Keita, finances aside. I mean if you signed Messi and Neymar but yea...

Winner. Just burst out in laughter at my desk at work

When you sit in the rain hold your arms up high...

Well this was incredibly unsurprising to everyone except Liverpool fans. Amazing how they convince themselves their best players don't harbour thought of higher ambitions / better clubs. They do it to themselves every season and it's always hilarious.

The money in the game means that very few clubs now have to sell.

Will be an interesting saga.

Maybe Liverpool should do what Van Gaal did with DDG and keep him out of the squad till September.
And hide the fax machine ;)

Hope he goes on strike and refuses to play or better pretends he is happy to stay gets in the squad and scores own goal and shows the middle finger to the kop.

Reading through Twitter im getting the impression Liverpool fans think Coutinho is acting in bad faith,

Is that not what they have been hoping Van Dijk and Kieta would do all summer ?

I genuinely don't think this saga is to do with Liverpool's transfers. He wants to go to Barca. That would not have changed had Liverpool gotten deals through.
