This would show the true motivation or intention of FSG. If they let him go, they are in for nothing but the profit. If they hold on to him, it would be a real sign of building towards something and having a plan with Klopp on top of it.

Although I would like this to happen, A part of me thinks Liverpool should hold on to him, just to feck Barcelona over. For so long, the big clubs in spain have easily managed to get the players out of PL at will and that is not good for the league.

Buyout clause or whatever, call it whatever you want. It was widely reported madrid could sign him for €60M summer 2016. Perez thought it was too much
I think they were all bunch of speculative sources.

Where would you have played him? Not like he would take Bale's or Isco's minutes. Neither would there be room for him in your midfield 3.

Barcelona has more of a use for him. Value is subjective depending on what your team needs at the moment.
Emm..I think they are discussing De Gea here.

A transfer request isn't worth the paper it is written on. The contract is still in place and valid until both parties agree to scrap it.

I must say that I can't help but enjoy the schadenfreude. There are of course similarities with VVD, but also great differences. Barca have acted in a much better way as they a) have submitted not one but at least two bids, something LFC failed to do with VVD. b) have been up front and open about this, unlike LFC and VVD (and it was supposedly LFC sending an email to someone by mistake that nailed them on this one).

All those ex-players who said VVD should go on strike to force a move, should be allowed to go to further his career (ie earn more money), etc etc have been conspicuous by their absence/silence over the Coutinho leaving. If they do dare comment, it is that they think he should stay and that LFC have no intention of selling blah blah blah.

As a Saints supporter I very much do hope he leaves, as it will weaken one of our rivals for the 6th-8th placed slots. ;)

Talksport have just said that Matt Le Tissier will be the smuggest person on the planet at the moment for all the crap he got off Liverpool fans for daring to criticise their precious club.

Why is so much focus being put on the fact that he sent the request by email?

How did people think these things were done, some kind of form to be completed with HR?

Best case scenario is demand maximum fee, quoted as £110m, then immediately go for Sigurdsson who has been given a £50m price tag so there shouldn't be too much negotiation around that. LPool then get the added benefit of stealing a very good player from under Evrton's nose.

I think they were under the impression Coutinho had to swoop into anfield on the back of a silver Liver bird as it sings 'You'll Never Walk Alone' pitch-perfect, he then climbs down and hands his request in on the back of Shankly's first contract with them.

Sorry Phil you need to log in to the Might Reds Intranet and complete the Transfer Request stencil, get it signed by your line manager and hand it to Tracy in HR before the 3rd Friday in the month.

Who the feck wants a statue of themselves to be built in Liverpool?

Vincenzo Peruggia, Bill Mason, Jesse James, Frank Abagnale Jr, Derek Smalls, Dick Turpin and David Brankle all would be proud to get a statue in Liverpool. Of course the statue would be stolen within a fortnight

Is that the guy from Catch Me If You Can??? The notorious con-man who made a fortune?

Barcelona made a strategic mistake. They should have taken Draxler or diMaria back in the Neymar deal. They´d have a top class talent to calm their fanbase and lessen their transfer desperation factor. The actual transfer fee would have been lowered, so would the subsequent fees. I think all in all they could have saved about 20% of whatever they´ll end up paying for Coutinho or Dembele, IF they get either one. If Liverpool hold firm, Dortmund is going to take them to the cleaners.

He doesn't play for Utd or Everton.:wenger:

Rejecting a transfer request sounds pretty funny. You can reject it, but it doesn't change the fact he still clearly wants out.

It is just a statement to the fans as to say" We did all we could", but!!!

This was predictable, the club doesnt want the fans' anger directed towards them and make it look like coutinho is the bad guy...

Is this definitely true? Melissa Reddy is pretty reliable for Liverpool news.

Edit: Never mind she put another tweet saying it is true.

Can't say I blame him for wanting to join Barcelona, but I think he might have to be patient.

Don't worry... I'm on it.

Very good.

That's his problem. It's now or never.....he might be told to be patient by LFC, give another year and then he can go, etc etc, but do you think Barca will be patient? Is that a risk he is prepared to take, that they will still be interested in him in a year's time? If you were in his shoes, would you grab the opportunity now or risk it that the opportunity would still be there next year?

I want to laugh, but it won't be long till this happens to us if we don't start performing.

Although how many players do we actually have that Barca or Real would even want?

 What is that? Did Coutinho send his e-mail to the wrong address? Or maybe Liverpool blocked all emails from Coutinho as spam.
It's Liverpool's cutting-edge ZX Spectrum telegraph service.

What can he do if they don't back down?

He needs to play if he wants to get into the Brazil team for the WC next year. As much as I'd enjoy seeing Liverpool being made to look even more like gobshites in this transfer window, they only have to hold out a couple more weeks. Then he'll have to either get on with it and do his job or miss out on his place in the national team.

He can't afford to be patient as Barcelona might fancy someone else next season. Eriksen's name is starting to crop up. PSG have really thrown the transfer window up into the air.

Courtinho will know it could be now or never, there's far better talents Barca could turn their attention to this window and especially the next. Think this will get even more ugly before its resolved.

there is absolutely no comparison between the clubs , one is a museum or is that a mausoleum, the other is the richest club in the world which within a few years will be sold to some billion billionaire who will make PSG spending look like a day trip to the pound shop.

We have the ambition and the wages to keep most players happy. Even if players did want to leave, we would probably handle it with dignity. I don't remember any embarrassment over the De Gea saga. We said if he wants to go, he can go for the right price. Madrid were the ones who messed that deal up. If anyone desperately wanted out of Old Trafford, then I'm sure they'd be allowed to go. Don't think Jose wants unhappy players.
