This is fecking great, to happen on the same day the PL season starts is just

If he goes, they're fecked this late in the window. If he doesn't, it's already ruined the start of their season especially with a CL qualifier coming up in 4 days.

Take your pick...

Not really. They have to be realistic. They have been shafted by PSG and need to get new players in.

Coutinho is not a Neymar, Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo level talent.

It's opportunity knocks for him here. He has to grasp it with both hands.

If he maintains his level and drive to do the best he can force them to come back for him, everyone knows he fits well in iniesta's position even later.

He'll be off just before deadline day then.

Spurs fans at work are worried Liverpool will try and replace him with Deli Ali. Not really sure that works for any of the three clubs involved so hopefully it is what will happen.

I can't really see it working out for him at Barcelona. He's a decent player but the fans will be expecting a Neymar replacement and that's something he definitely isn't.

Can we have Coutinho get transferred to Pool and then get Barca transfer banned for tapping.
That would be fun :D

Think selling him is inevitable.

But they should act quickly to get the best possible alternative, if they have any sense. Plenty of good quality playmakers around who would be easily affordable with half the Coutinho money.

Not sure that's a move he'd even want to make. Spurs are a better side and living in London is probably more attractive to him than living in Liverpool. Liverpool can probably double his wages, but I don't see it happening. Alli would cost 150m in this market.

hmm, not sure what Pool have done wrong with Coutinho? They rejected a huge fee to keep him, on the back of making him the club's highest paid player a few months ago. What more can they do?

Ultimately if Barca come knocking at your club's door, especially with the money they have available right now, most players will try get the feck out.

I wouldn't say they've done anything wrong per se. They are well within their rights to issue statements, reject transfer requests and reject bids for their players. The market shifted with the Neymar sale, which no matter what Liverpool thinks, put Coutinho on the market.

My point is just that clearly Coutinho wants to leave to a bigger club, one of the top 3 in the world (which should be an understandable situation) but also appreciates his time at Liverpool and would like to leave on good terms with the club and their fans. Liverpool however, make that impossible.

Typically I'd side with the club in these situations, especially with the new contract he signed, but the Neymar sale changed the market. If Coutinho really wants to play for Barca, the move has to happen now.

Everyone is putting alot in to the WC year nonsense..

If he plays well for Brazil when he's called up then he'll get game time. He's already got a phantom back injury at the moment and this is only the first real day of fall out from his request. To think this will be a smooth ride for Liverpool is very naive.

I agree. He already a starter for the national team and it's almost certain he makes the World Cup roster next summer.

I don't either but they are worrying regardless. He is a Liverpool fan apparently and wanted to sign for them instead of Spurs originally, but they wouldn't cough up the money at the time.

This cycle has to stop somewhere, then only epl clubs make a comback in europe.

There's a lot more to it than just players leaving for other clubs. Not to get in a pissing contest about leagues, but the Premier league is brutal almost every week with the amount of money in the league allowing even the weaker clubs to put out some quality sides. And the English FA does nothing to help the top clubs in European competitions like other countries FA's do.

But even aside all of that, Barcelona and now Real have and are enjoying a golden era of generational talent, not even taking into consideration Messi and Ronaldo. And you're just not ever going to stop players like say Ronaldo going to their favorite clubs at some point.

And also even with all the money in the Premier league, clubs here cannot compete with the wages that can be offered by these other clubs. Even United can't really afford to pick up these top tier salaries with out busting the wage structure.

The issue here is DDG never asked to formally leave or submitted a transfer request.

The club were happy to let him go and for reasons unknown the registration didn't happen. He then decided to stay with us.

In this instance there's clearly alot going on behind the scenes. Klopp won't be happy, Coutinho isn't happy and the dressing room could easily nose dive. It's very messy now everyone have gone public and I don't see a happy ending.
DDG didn't ask to formally leave the club because he didn't need to. He decided to stay-->signed a new contract so as to not lose the Euros, with a buyout clause included for madrid to sign him the following summer

Coutinho's situation really isn't all that different from DDG guys

You're talking about arguably the 5th biggest club in the league (in terms of recent standing and financial power) selling to Barcelona. Would be the equivalent of us buying Sevilla's best player at best. Nothing to panic about in the EPL's standing.

That would be nice if he had a release clause but he doesn't.

There was no release clause. It's probably the main reason why DDG isn't at Madrid right now as the price we want for him is more than Madrid would like to pay. This in spite of the fact that United would be far less disappointed in selling De Gea now than they would 3 years ago.

Buyout clause or whatever, call it whatever you want. It was widely reported madrid could sign him for €60M summer 2016. Perez thought it was too much

Ironically as a club like Liverpool you are probably better off spreading false rumours than simply releasing a "not for sale" statement. If I was Liverpool I´d leak a "Sources say Barcelona losing interest in Coutinho, now after real targets Eriksen and Alli" to ESPN and within an hour that thing has gone global and Coutinho is crying to Barcelona that they don´t love him anymore. :wenger:

You can stop them going from your EPl clubs, just go directly to them if you dream of them , this is the messege Clubs with higher ambition should make a statement with.

It's funny it's happening to Liverpool, but it was inevitable at some point, and with Salah, Lallana, Firmino and Mane they still have a fairly potent attack.

Where would you have played him? Not like he would take Bale's or Isco's minutes. Neither would there be room for him in your midfield 3.

Barcelona has more of a use for him. Value is subjective depending on what your team needs at the moment.
