Philippe Coutinho

I think he'll be gone. I actually think Liverpool genuinely thought he didn't have the balls to force the move so they played hard ball with Barcelona about the transfer.

It's a different situation now and looks like it could get messy for everyone concerned. I'm sure Klopp is livid right now

Good of Liverpool to reject. Epl clubs needs to send statements to other clubs now ,it's time.
It's all very well 'sending statements', but ultimately, the final statement will be from Coutinho - if he stays, everyone knows he doesn't want to be there and it'll create tension in the dressing room and may affect the way the players play and morale in general.

He'll probably be sold, Liverpool will buy a couple of players for less than what they get for him, FSG will claim they tried their best.

You could argue the case that if he was sold for say £100m you could possibly find two players in his position who aren't a million miles away from him ability wise for less than half that each.

But I don't know who they are.

It's hard to be pissed off though because Liverpool did the same thing to Southampton and Leipzig.

He can play for Liverpool in the UCL qualifier and still be eligible to play for Barca in the group stage. He runs the risk of injury though...

Because they've had huge bids rejected for Keita? They would also got VVD by now if they hadn't so boasted about tapping him up. The money has been there but either the clubs have rejected their offers or they've fecked it up. And Klopp seemingly has no alternatives to the two of them. Blaming their owners (and the transfer committee) is another long standing scouse tactic to try and not blame their heroic managers. Klopp is at fault here clearly.

Anyone can bid for unattainable players so they look like they have tired..

It does to FSG

Money

Talking in purely footballing terms.

I think had this situation played out in June then the club's stance may have been very different. But it's the fact that the window is shutting in a couple of weeks and the season begins tomorrow (with a CL qualifier in mid week).

Coutinho leaving at this stage would throw the season into turmoil. Who the feck could we even sign to replace him. I think this explain's the club's unwillingness to do business.

Suarez was told to train with the reserves in the summer of 2013 following a request and an incendiary newspaper interview. He then came back and played the season of his life up to that point.

No chance he'll play against hoffenheim unless 'pool agrees to sell him afterwards

Why would either want to go to Liverpool?
£££ mainly
Side step
Tbf huge club with history and perhaps be stable with an exciting manager vs new stadium, low wages and potential stagnation / transition of the entire club

No I agree the timing is bad but it was obvious a few teams were going to feel the fall out of Barca getting done over by PSG..

I think he's gone. He's got this phantom back injury now so you guys can save face and not play him in the CL (as this would tie him from the competition).

Think this will be done by the end of next week.

Lemar?

Really hate when it comes to this point ( handing a transfer request ) never respect this kinds of players, BUT happy it's happening to Liverpool

Problem being that LPool would do the hard part of tiresome negotiations with Levy only for a bigger club to come in and gazump them. If Erikssen moves I can see him going abroad anyway.
That's true - but gotta throw money at things like this (agent fees and sign on bonus etc). Turn the player's head. Can easily be done by Pool if they really fancy it.

Rafinha and Denis Suarez seem expendable, they should try and get them included in a deal.

Basically don't 'do a Spurs' and sign a bunch of 'good' players. Splash it on a huge 'great' player IMO.

I agree with this. It's all well and good to laugh at pool and it may very well be very detrimental to them to lose their best player, but its sickening when the spanish clubs just pluck the best players from the pl teams when they choose. It's about time that the club says no and the players realize they can't just force their way to real or barca when they wish.

Absolutely, if he goes on strike he jeopardize his world cup year.

There is no value to contracts like this.

Yeah mate they tapped up a player and then publicly apologized just to make a show of having money. Nah. They do have the money. Klopp is just inflexible with it.

Well does this also work the other way? Maybe Liverpool will stop paying Sturridge´s wages, cause they are unhappy? Surely you guys are just taking the piss with your hot takes.

I have been very firm with my opinion and I said the same about VVD, Dembele, Coutinho and everybody else. You signed the fecking contract. Nobody forced you to sign a five year deal worth €40-50M. But it sure is nice to have that financial security, ain´t it? Well then you honour it, if the club says no. You don´t go on strike or run to the press. It´s not like we are talking 3rd or 4th year of the five year deals either.

These three clowns (Dembele, Coutinho, VVD) have signed those deals less than 12 months.

When you first quoted my post I thought you would end up wiping the floor with me, but you're now making less and less sense with each post. Liverpool stop paying Sturridge his wages? What a bizarre comparison.

Liverpool have a right to suspend Coutinho and fine him if they feel he is not behaving appropriately. But to the contrary the majority of reports have said that he's been very professional. Coutinho submitting a formal transfer request because he'd like to move, isn't the same as VVD throwing a strop and basically refusing to train. The 'back injury' has been called into question but it's not conclusive yet and only speculation surrounds that, so I won't comment yet.

Coutinho has every right to ask to leave, and the club will be financially rewarded for his sale. He's not screwing them over is he? They'll be receiving a very healthy sum. That might or might not explain why he signed that contract in the first place.

You are a pretty honest poster.

I have said all along I'm not sure the FSG warchest exists. I really think they will be happy to still Coutinho for big money, will allow Klopp to spend some and pocket the rest.

As for Coutinho he'll be made to look the bad guy now but as you rightly say you can't really blame him.
The only thing that's dawned on me having noted it at the time is he switched agents a couple years ago. Think he's represented by Kia Joorabchian now which suggests he saw this scenario panning out. I remember him signing a new deal before this last one on 70k a week back in 2014 was a pittance even then. It's shit timing 24 hours before the new season and we look set to go in to a season in four fronts with a squad as thin as last season. With the injuries we get it's suicide.

It might seem pedantic... But can we change the thread title to spell his name right please?

More likely Mahrez, Lanzini or Sigurdson

And every club who owns these players KNOW Liverpool will have 100+ million to spend. You could be looking at paying 70-80 million for any of them, just like the way they are trying to pinch every little penny from Barcelona for Coutinho

It's fecking hilarious :lol::lol::lol::lol:

After Monaco made it clear to Arsenal they won't sell him this Summer..?

Next 20 days will be crucial for the rest of our season. Best case scenario we start well in the league, get CL football and Coutinho stays, BUT come September we could be out of the CL before it has even started, without our best player and already behind in the league which would be an absolute disaster. We'll see how it pans out, three points tomorrow would feel like a welcome relief, at least for a few days.

I'm not sure how Coutinho staying is best case?

He doesn't want to be there. Your season will be hampered by the constant questions, criticism of his performance and well being.

Best case would be sell him and get someone in who wants to play for Liverpool.

Think you'll get him if you pay over the odds like Barca are willing to with Coutinho.

I am not sure he could afford that given the world cup year.
