Philippe Coutinho

This is the interesting disparity in the market. The top players who are sold don't go for that much more than the average ones. Look at Lukaku, only 25m more than Sigurdsson. In other words it's clubs like Liverpool in this case who get screwed when they sell one player and try to buy 3 with the money, especially since everyone now knows you're loaded. The same happened to Juventus last year.

So if anything what you are saying is reinforcing the point that it is pointless for Liverpool to sell him. The money won't go far.

We've money enough. What good is 90m if no team wants to sell to us, let alone we'd be able to land a better player than Coutinho.

He's going nowhere.

Exactly.

Liverpool are a top 6 PL side and it's 2017.

100m Euros is not going to help them. Keeping their best player is.

So, Liverpool have that 70 odd million for Keita, yes? Barca willing to pay 90 odd million for Coutinho, yes? Why not just throw in a few more millions and get Neymar instead? Lol

A few more million presumably being another £100m.
Edit: I got caught out by the white text.

Samir Nasri - the 30 year-old, bad-attitude has-been who only managed 2 goals in 20+ appearances for Sevilla last season- as a Coutinho replacement?!

I would love it if Klopp did this but I don't think he is quite that deranged yet... you on the other hand?

:wenger:

Not much between them talent wise imo.

I hope he stays. The stronger the opposition, the sweeter the success. The better their players, the more compelling the rivalry. I'd love Liverpool v United to have the very best players in the world one day, instead of El clasico.

Yeah I was agreeing with you in case I wasn't clear.

I misread.

Agreed.

I want the best players in the PL.

Maybe if this was 2011. That one year aside, Nasri has never been as good as Coutinho was last season.

Nasri has hit higher heights in play than Coutinho in my opinion. Personal opinion though not much between it.

Seriously though. I don't think Barcelona are getting any of Coutinho, Dybala or Dembele.

Who are their realistic targets?

I would, absolutely.

And replace him with who? What the hell are we gonna do with £140 million? It would take close to £200 million for us to even consider selling Pogba. We have an outstanding world class talent, only a moron would want rid of him.

Why aren't they?

Coutinho has already agreed to move. Don't think it's that far fetched when all that needs negotiating is a fee. Everyone has one.

I wouldn't say Eriksen is better than Coutinho technically but he's more consistent. Spurs' midfield is a well oiled machine and Eriksen exudes a calmness that is viital to how they play, there's a lot of movement around him with Ali bursting forward, Kane running the channels and full backs getting well ahead of him but he's the one pulling the strings.

Coutinho is busier and a genuine danger cutting in towards goal but I'm not so sure he's as central to the way Liverpool play as Eriksen is to Spurs.

There is absolutely nobody in our team who could replace Pogba and what he brings to the team. Looking creativity wise and his goal threat from the midfield, all that with being our only real star name which will always be important from the marketing side to Woodward and the club. There is no money under which we should consider selling him in the current moment.

Can we stop talking about Pogba in the Coutinho thread? Don't you have a Pogba thread somewhere!

True, but we're just talking how it would be moronic to sell Pogba. On the other hand, it would be a great idea if you sell Coutinho, especially late in the transfer window.

I don't think barca would be willing to pay what we would ask. €150m is not a worthwhile fee in their world I think. And I don't think Coutinho is going to force our hand to lower that fee. Same as Dembele at Dortmund really. Or Keita at Leipzeig by the look of it.

Dybala doesn't seem to want to leave Italy at all.

Ed go and put a 100 million euro offer and say 'Bye' to Klopp's title dreams

Agreed, I don't see Coutinho being disruptive at all. Maybe Klopp will keep his mate Moreno as a compromise (he actually played okay last night). :)

I don't think he's disruptive either however when a player wants to go they will usually end up at the door. I thought Klopp was very vocal about not keeping players if they wanted to leave?

If the Neymar deal happens I think things will get interesting.

I think there are degrees of 'wanting to leave'. I don't think we have a Torres situation on our hands.

It looks to me like barca have no clue what their are doing. They are playing this as if it were 2014. I wouldn't be surprised if they ballsed up it all up.

Coutinho himself denied that he had agreed personal terms with Barcelona and had no clue where those reports were coming from.

EDIT: thought James Pearce tweeted that a few days ago but can't find it anymore, I swear I read it somewhere though. Either way, Keita supposedly had also agreed personal terms with us and look how that ended up. Coutinho isn't moving this window.

Think Barca will use the money they get for Neymar on Coutinho and Dembele (Dortmund one).

Dembele - Suarez - Messi
Coutinho - Rakitic
Busquets

Quality side.

I'm firmly on this side of the argument too. Liverpool can't sell Coutinho and be guaranteed the same worth in one or two new players, selling their best player is more likely to go badly for them.

Though I wouldn't mind Liverpool weakened I hope they stick to their guns. I can't stand the sight of Barca players in the paper talking about the 'moral' case for a team letting a player join them.

Agree with the rest, do not think Liverpool should even consider letting him go with so little left of the window. Almost regardless of the price. They need top 4 and need him to achieve it.

Come on Barcelona, meddle with them.
Will need to act very quickly to get it done before he gets cup tied though

No way in hell will they sell him this late, no time to replace him.

If they purchase VVD for the reported prices though it all might change, FSG would like to balance the books and win the net spend league.

Wonder how much can Liverpool and their owners resist?

100 million?

Going.to be a crazy market.

Barcelona were a side in decline even before Neymar left. They need to spend £200m right fecking now, if not Real will walk La Liga.
