Outgoing Players

Now if we can get Pogba, we will have the 4 signings that the squad needed. Now the rest depends on who is leaving. I imagine if Blind and Mata leave, we will get replacements.

We needed to make 4 signings to add to our existing squad as it was small.

I hope all the players signed last summer get a second chance
Would be unfair if they get unloaded after one season where the whole team were bad

I'd be sad to see Mata go, but I fear it's a given with how Jose booted him at Chelski

Only player I want gone is Fellaini really
Everyone else I can see improving with the new manager

I think Mata will go soon now we've confirmed Miki. Valencia might not survive past xmas if Darmian and TFM lock down RB spot.
Agree with Bosnian Reds list above, essentially players we'd listen to offers for. Of course one or 2 could enjoy a resurgence under Mou and stay, but i'd expect once a solid offer comes in they will be sold.
Actually i'd probably add Blind to the list, even though I think he's worth keeping for next season at least.

Personally i'm most keen to start the new season without the Toilet brush and Jones. Too many mental scars from watching both of them, would be good to start new season without the anxiety of them lurking around the team sheet. Yes Jones has been unlucky with injuries, but his performances when fit suggest he is well below standard required.

If I had to bet on one player transforming under Mou, i'd go for Rojo. Granted he's been mostly muck so far, but i'd take a punt at generous odds.

Mourinho is used to have a short number of players available, because as he stated today his teams have not that many injuries, and so that there's competition among first team players and substitutes and keep these interested.

In here, we might see that number raised a bit because he's getting to know them and also United's stated youth policy. But I can't imagine Mourinho having 3 players per position all season. In his last winning season at Chelsea he had just 24 players (only 3 goalkeepers and strikers, the rest with 2 each).

So, I'm surprised a lot of people here are expecting him to keep most to all of Van Gaal's players, including the youngsters that entered the first team last season, more the 4 priority additions, which amount more or less to 33 players!

Even if Mourinho maintains an extra man for each line, I can't imagine him having more than 26 players training come 31st August. Considering this, I think at least 7 might have to be sold or loaned, and I expect them to be the following:

Rojo
McNair
Varela
Fellaini
Young/Depay
Mata
Pereira/Januzaj
Wilson

The funny thing is that Mourinho might use this in his favor. As he stated in the press conference, he's counting on adding to the squad if some players want to leave. So, for instance, if Mata is sold, he will demand for a new #10 of his preference instead of keeping Pereira. (And, by the way, here's when Mendes players might start to appear, if Mourinho isn't breaking with him.) The same with high profile players like Rojo, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, etc. But come the end of August, he sure will going to get rid of the excess baggage.
I've posted this on the «Realistically who's likely to be leaving?» thread, but nobody cared for it… What I'm saying is that, considering Mourinho's previous experiences at clubs, no way less than 7 players are out of the club (sold or loaned) August 31st.

I'm really surprised everybody here thinks Mourinho will change his habits and fool around with +30 players! :nono:

I agree with your main point and most of your list. I would imagine the club have given Mourinho instructions as to the net transfer spend allowed and the situation regarding wages; how he wishes to spend the money is up to him but the club will expect him to stick to whatever budget they have set; which in reality means high earners who aren't considered starters will be sold or loaned out. If United spend around £150m then they will be looking to get £60m+ from sales. I imagine the total salaries of those departing (sold, loaned or retired), will be very similar to the total salaries of those arriving; this was the case in both of LVG's seasons and even in Moyes's summer transfer window.

Mata, Blind, Rojo and Fellaini - all highly likely to go

Schweinsteiger - very likely to leave if Pogba arrives. Decision to retain Carrick for another season gives a strong signal that Schweinsteiger is on his way. Might survive if new midfield signing is on £4m a year rather than £10m+ per year.

Memphis and Young - also vulnerable due to earning far more than other candidates for similar roles (Lingard, Pereira, Januzaj)

Varela - highly likely to leave but more down to wanting more playing time, than his salary being a problem. Might stay if Darmian or Valencia sold.

McNair, Wilson and Pereira - loans in order to get more playing time seem quite likely, though the wages saved would only be £3m, even if all three went out on loan.

Jose likes to have a small squad, and he will feel the pressure to have some youngsters in his team. I can see the likes of Rashford, CBJ, TFM, Januzaj being in and around the first team, Lingard as well if he counts.

Squad of 23 is normally what Mourinho goes for

GK: DDG and Romero
RB: Valencia and Darmian; TFM in emergiences
CB: Bailly, Smalling, Rojo, Jones if none are sold or one sold with TFM filling in and Blind as 5th choice
LB: Shaw and CBJ, Rojo and Blind for emergency cover
RM: Mkhirtyan and Lingard
CM: Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Carrick
LM: Martial, Depay
AM: Pogba, Rooney
CF: Ibra and Rashford

Not sure where that leaves the likes of Januzaj, Fellaini, Mata and Blind. Mata will be leaving I suspect while Blind can cover numerous positions so will be kept for EL and any injury problems. Januzaj will compete with Lingard and Depay for a winger spot and can also play as a number 10.

Rojo and Jones as back-up CB's is as average as it gets, they really are poor players.

News on outgoing players is hotting up now that the incoming players are mostly done. Latest reports suggest:
Varela
Blackett
Schweinsteiger
Mata
Blind
Rojo
Fletcher

Are all on their way out. Its noticeable though that we actually have to make effort to sell them rather than an effort to fend off bids for them or anyone else for that matter, despite not being in the CL. None of these players have really worked out well for us or had a good season, and are certainly some of the most moaned about. LVG really was lousy in the transfer market.

I would keep Blind. The rest can feck off.

It's funny how we all keep speculating on his short comings but can't back it up with evidence.
I know people go on about his lack of pace and height but compared to the taller and pacier defenders he seemed to handle majority of strikers quite well.
I'd like him to stick around for a bit at least till a better replacement is sorted (performance). He might not be your textbook CB but had a very similar season to The Great Chris Smalling.. I don't want us to have another Valencia/Damian scenario, when we all thought we have an upgrade.
Let him stay and fight for a spot. If he can't step up, we cut him loose.

Do eyes count as evidence?

For me he absolutely has to stay. Good cover at LB if Shaw doesn't hit the ground running. Can also be a good option at DM if we're plagued by injuries.
I rate Blind better as a LB and CB than Rojo which makes Rojo surplus to requirements.

I'd still like to see us sign an experienced CB but who is available now? Smalling is no world beater and may not fall into the Jose plan. Would not be surprised if Jones came good under Jose. I guess we'll know a lot more in 2-3 weeks.

Duncan castles will publish another article today/tomorrow

He names 4 players that were going as Juan mata, Bastian, Blind and Rojo. I think these 4 are now favourites to leave. I would believe whatever baldy says as he right up Mou's arse.

Based on nothing... but I think Mourinho will give Blind a chance, but mainly use him as a squad player (to cover LB/CM/CB). Will be shipped out eventually, though.

No Fellaini :(

You guys give Duncan Castles way too much credit as an ITK, hes not a genuine ITK, he's been briefed at the same time as other journos in the past on certain correct stories and it's made him look decent but in reality 95% of what he says is nonsense just like any other journalist.

Oh yeah.. If Shaw and Jones/new CB show better this season, he can be moved on but till then we should be keeping him. He is shown himself a solid enough footballer.
Anyway you're right, we'll get a clearer picture of how Jose will be setting the team up during season in the preseason games.. Till then I'd rather take each players value to their general contribution last season.

Express are saying Leicester are interested in Pereira.
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...ndreas-Pereira-Leicester-transfer-news-gossip
Hope that's not the case.

PSG make a €32m offer for Valencia.

Valencia for this ridiculous price is a no brainer, so probably false.
I think most of us would be very disappointed to lose Pereira. We might end up having to buy him back for 10000000000000 pounds (depending on how Brexit goes).

Kicker: Frankfurt interested in Varela (confirmed by Fredi Bobic, Frankfurts sporting manager), want a loan deal with option to buy. Still a bit of work to be done...

Seems to me that our youth are seeking ways out right now. Thought Varela looked better than Valencia personally.

Seems like Blackett, Varela and Wilson are through.

Blackett is no great loss
I like Wilson and Varela but they are to far behind in the pecking order. Maybe just a loan move for Wilson as he still has time on his side

Can anyone see Rooney back at Everton within 2 years? They're flush with cash now and want to make a statement that they're growing the club (talk of a new stadium), not cashing in on Stones last Summer/Jan, Barkley, Lukaku or Coleman.

He's not the easiest lad to like but I think their fans will appreciate that Everton sold him for a big fee, he didn't force his way out at 17. Wayne may have to take a big hit to his pay but then his performances have taken a big hit too.

We had that many youth players thrown into the mix under LvG that it's not a big surprise that a large portion of them wont make it. Rashford, Fosu-Mensah, CBJ, Tuanzebe and hopefully Pereira will all get chances under Jose, that will be more youth opportunity than at any other big club offers this season IMO.

Did Fellaini, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin changed numbers? I'm really asking: were they outside the 25 first numbers last season? If not, might be an indication of them leaving.

Fellaini is here to stay te likeliest out of these 3. Schneiderlin will probably too. Schweini seems to not be in the plans from the rumours

Schweinstieger's always been 31, last season and most of his career at Bayern

It's a shame Varela isn't staying because I think right back is up for grabs and he could have challenged Darmian.

Rojo and Fellaini are the two I really want to see go. Hopefully signing Pogba finishes Fellaini, but I'm disappointed Rojo has retained #5. Blind is a better backup to Shaw or the centre backs, plus we have Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah knocking on the door and Rojo shouldn't be in their way.

Blackett is awful but it looks like he's thankfully not in Jose's plans.

OUT
  • Young
  • Jones
  • Rojo
  • Memphis (loan)
SQUAD PLAYERS/BUT KEEP
  • Lingard
  • Valencia
I think we still need:

RW - Draxler/Mahrez // RB - Fabinho // CB - Manolas // CM - Pogba/Matuidi

I've seen some Twitter reports that Martial is unhappy and has unfollowed Man Utd on IG and Twitter? Someone reassure me that they're just trolling, I'm not normally a pant wetter but it worried me
