Outgoing Players

Feels like Deja vu.
Lets sell half the squad, a squad already small enough as it is, which was one of many critiscms by fans..
Then buy a dozen players and hope they gel.
One of the biggest mistakes VG made was not adequately replacing those who left.
Then you consider the yearly Utd injury crisis which typically is one of the most consistent aspects of this Utd side.

Van Gaal was limiting the players & also dreadful at player management.
Seriously, Rojo was awful for most of the season. Darmian had one of his best performances vs Palace then gets dropped for Rojo.

Rojo, Fellani (still considering this), Jones.
Only 3 I'd sell.
No reason to sell blind, he could be an incredibly useful squad player at least. He was one of Utds most consistent performers, over 50 appearances too?
New signings should be given a year to settle in. If some of you knuckle heads got your way, Ronaldo, Evra, Vidic, De Gea wouldn't have lasted the first season?

Mentioned it in another thread but I can honestly see JM giving Mata and Herrera a chance next season to keep DDG happy. Keeping DDG should be no.1 priority and Mata and Herrera are both good enough players to have around for another year if it means DDG stays.

You've also got to consider he's perhaps more open to a move than others. He's made comments in the Dutch media that he thought Van Gaal was poorly treated and why would he stick around if the first thing Jose does is sign a new centre back.

If he wants a move, no problem.
If its the choice of the manager, I don't think he should be sold as he could be very useful next season. Especially if theres another injury crisis, he didn't look out of place at CB imo.

Jones, Rojo, Fellaini, Blind, Schneiderlin are the players I'd feck off.

Darmian IMO could improve a lot under Jose, same for Depay possibly. Hererra and Mata are good players that should be left for depth alone. Would also like to see Schweini stay another year at least.

You'd keep Bastian but get rid of Blind and morgan?

Bastian for experience.

Blind otherwise would be a backup. I don't think Mourinho will play him at CB, like ever, and in midfield we have better options(considering we would most likely buy a CM as well).

As for Schneiderlin he has been real crap this season. I'd rather we buy someone or give TFM more playing time.

How far is the squad from being too big? How much bigger can it get before youth products are crowded out?

I know Mourinho tends to play the same side, but I imagine the squad could handle a net gain.

It was too thin this past season, maybe even all back to Moyes' season.

I wasn't sold on him even when he was at Soton and still don't believe he's United level.
Luckily it's not up to you to decide. To me he fits the mold of a good defensive minded box to box. We got glimpses of a very high level at the start of last season but he never progressed, which was arguably due to the position he was asked to play. His passing is good but he does not have the range to be a holding mid, keeoing things ticking from deep.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt as I always thought that he was very good at Soton.

In all fairness next season we will only have one goal - Qualify for the CL (winning the EPL will be great ofc). All other competitions should come second and we can play youngsters in them. We can offload players now since we probably will have to strengthen next summer.

Sure, you have your own view on that, we'll see how it pans out and if Jose believes if he can come good.

This whole Thread is hilarious, as if our already lightweight squad is going to any lighter. We don't have depth, Youth was our only option last season because of it and thankfully they didn't do too bad.

Selling 6-10 players like people have mentioned would be suicide... I can see Mourinho possibly selling upto 4 at a stretch 5 depending on how many players he signs.

Valdes will be sold back to Spain or an Italian club
Romero might be too, promoting Sam Johnstone to no.2 or Joel Pereria, not see much of Henderson.
I think Jones too will be gone to a midtabled prem side.
Mata has question marks only because he was sold once before by Mourinho but you never know.

But that's it from the main squad. Can see fringe players like Nick Powell, Will Keane & Blackett gone.

The likes of Fellaini, Scheiderlin, Herrera all cost us big money and I doubt the club will want to sell them on for a much lesser fee after 1,2 seasons with the club. As much as people hate Fellaini, at times he was one of our better players especially in the closing part of the season.

I think most people will be shocked that Mourinho will hardly sell any players as he will be wanting to build a squad.

If Rooney is playing Midfiled now and Martial on the left, that leaves just Rashford as a striker. Rvp & Chicha were never replaced. Jose might bring in 2 strikers. Ibra is a given.

Right wing we have Mata who I have questions marks over and Lingard. I like both players but Mata isn't great there and Lingard hasn't got the starting 11 quality. Memphis could play there but hasn't had an impact when we've seen him there. Januzaj... Not sure really what's happening with him, just didn't get a look in with LVG, but I can see Lingard being preferred to Januzaj, I think a RW will come in. Mkhitaryan is the perfect Mourinho type winger, also very good as a 10 but only linked with Arsenal. Mahrez is another option but will be hard to get, Ounas will come if either of those aren't available.

Were linked with many central midfielders and think we will sign one but only one. I believe LVG was holding Herrera back and we are yet to see what he is fully capable off. Schneiderlin did well in the early stages as a CDM but I don't think it's his best position, box-to-box would see him being used to his best ability. Pogba isn't happening as much as I'd like it, but could mean Kroos or even modric could be available with Pogba going to Madrid. I don't think Madrid would be dumb enough to sell Modric though, but if they did... We should be all over it.

Bailly is here and I don't think he will be alone. Jones will be sold and possibly an experienced CB will be bought in. The likes on Bonucci or Naldo unless Jose and thinks his Central Defenders are good enough with just Bailly coming in.
(Mike, Rojo, Blind, Bailly, Mensah). If a Bonucci or Naldo type turns up it could probably mean the end of Rojo too.

Realisticly:

ST - Ibra
ST - ?
RW - Mkhitaryan, Mahrez or Ounas
CM - Kroos, Kante, Nainggolan or Gomes
CB - Bailly
CB - ? Bonucci or Naldo

They are in the order of preference for me.

Only two players I would be comfortable with selling this Summer.

Fellaini and Rojo, the rest we should keep as our squad is super thin for a top club at the moment.

The big problem is our players are massively over paid, relative to their quality and value.

We will get very little in return for selling our deadwood, which is the majority of the players on our booKS.

The Mirror are saying that Jose sent all our players a text saying they will not be sold, until he's seen them in training, giving them all a chance. Might be why we've seen so little movement on this front. They do also say that Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marouane Fellaini, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay, are at risk of being sold-pretty much the same names we've heard before with the addition of Fellaini.

Interesting that Blind's name is not on the list.

Remember Sky Sports news back then? Mata and Blind are on the list. I'm not surprised. Especially given that we just spent £30m on centre back and Mata isn't Jose's type of player. There is strong rumours that we are going to sign Mkhitaryan which I think to replace him as well.

Blind might stay but I highly doubt Mata will stay unless if he wants to sit, watch and wait for other players get injured.

No chance they are all being sold, i could see 2 at a push 3 but anymore than that and we'll be needing to sign 8-10 players this summer. The squads wafer thin as it is.

Cant see many departures from the team, but the amount of people wanting to shift on almost all the team is crazy. Rooney will be good under Mourinho, he wont break scoring records but his work ethic, influence and his gameplay will be valuable next season. I'm not convinced by Depay, don't think he has the right attitude for the team, I do hope to be proven wrong though and he kicks on and becomes a great player for us but his defensive work needs serious improvement. Last season he was coming on as a sub and I reckon he cost us 9 points through individual errors that could be easily prevented.

My list of players to go:

Mata - Not a Mourinho type player
Blind great season last season but we have better options available (Bailley)
Rojo - Just mental as a defender
Bastian - Flying back to Germany at every opportunity last season didn't endear himself to the club, could still do a job but we have better options (TFM, Morgan)

Bring in the Zlatan, cant see Mhkitharian arriving at all. Maybe Arda Turan will be the next target as Barcelona are supposedly looking rid of him. Also grab a marquee signing if Mata is sold, in the shape of James Rodriguez and outside chance of Pogba. Think the movement will begin once the Copa and the Euros are done with.

Certainly seems no-one will be sold until post Euros and Copa, and after pre-season has started... But incoming players probably coming during pre-season or just after the tournos and that might well make some players want to leave as they know they will lose a regular starting place.

How many players have we actually brought through into the first team over that period?

Evans? Welbeck? Cleverley? They've all been cleared out.

What's your point? I've acknowledged that is an issue among big clubs and I don't want it to continue under Mourinho.

I expect we'll get most of our incoming business done first before unloading any players we feel are not required.

There is no issue among big clubs, they are the ones providing the most players in the 5 best leagues in Europe.

Mirror:
  • Arsenal are monitoring the movements of Daley Blind amid reports that Jose Mourinho will offload the Dutchman.
Might suit their style of play. But a very weak link so far.

The Sunday People are saying Reading want Blackett on loan and Birmingham want Wilson on loan.

Probably the first outgoing player, considering the source and player and replacement is already bought. Just need a buyer now. Seems strange though considering all players were told they'd be given a chance during pre-season. However, I don't remember reading Rojo saying anything at all post-Mourinho's appointment.

If the news is true, that Mourinho has decided against wholesale replacement of the team, then he immediately gets a plus from me. For me, supporting the club also means supporting the players playing in it. I hated LVG for what he did with Nani, Rafael, Evans and Wellbeck.

But it shouldn't mean over sentimentality at the detriment of the club. If a players time is up,they should be moved on.

It's what Fergie did in his prime 1995 for example.

True, non-performers need to be culled from time to time. But what LVG did in the last 2 seasons is inexcusable. He took out the heart of the team, and replaced it with a faulty pacemaker.
