United line up Shaw replacement
Celtic’s superb young fullback Tierney is also being closely followed, and the player’s entourage believes a United move could well be on the cards. He comes with glowing recommendations from people who have worked with him, who speak of a fantastic 100% attitude and carefully-managed lifestyle that’ll be music to Mourinho’s ears.

He applied himself, that's all good and well, why is it that we're at the end of the season and Jose is still asking him to apply himself though? He's doing himself no favours, we're in no position to be holding player's hands and having passengers in and around the team.
I cant speak for whats going on with him and Jose. But since he pulled out of the squad with an injury after playing cs Watford (through injury) things havent been the same

There is no agenda pal, Shaw hasn't been a proper starter since the start of the season. Every other player he has questioned has worked their way back into the team, conspiracies aside, if he was fully committed there should be no reason why he couldn't. Especially assuming he's half as talented as people one here seem to think he is.

Normally I'd find these comments a bit much. But United should always aspire to be the best club in the world! and those standards have fallen so far short over the last few years it gotten to the stage where, if you are not up to standard then get out!

Most of the current players in the team don't even compare to there counterparts from teams passed. But fans/newspapers love to create drama and defend the current crop when big bad Jose calls them out for being average.

Shaw has done nothing in a United short and if his attitude is crap then he can go asap.

Pretty much this.

Everyone wanted to know why Shaw was out of the squad, now we do, and somehow it's Mourinho's fault.

You see the number of times players get opportunities and let the side down or are less than impressive. People get what they want and then see how they are not as good as they thought they were but its JM's fault.

How many times have you seen people crying for Rashford or Martial yet time and again they don't perform. I think this can be helped with a slight change in personel to bridge the gap.

There are still too many average and underpefroming players in the side still. I expect (and hope) of a considerable change to the squad next season.

I'm already excited at the prospect of an energetic, effective fullback. No more fannying around on that left side (hopefully). Kinda glad he's made that decision easier instead of us constantly persevering with what ifs.

Exactly, we need to start expecting more of our players especially the ones with the most potential.
It's too easy to criticise a Fellaini or a Darmian - we know they're not good enough, our expectation is that they don't have the ability to ever be good enough, and they will be replaced sooner rather than later.

But the Shaw's, Martial's, Rashford's, even the Mata's & Herrera's need to be held to a higher standard.

I honestly don't know why anyone still defends Shaw.

Even if he was Ronaldo he'd be pushing his luck.

The key thing here is not that he questions his ability because he really doesn't, he questions his commitment which is much worse and makes me think there is no way back.

I was hoping he'd be our LB for the next 15 years, he did look promising at some point, but Mourinho is the second manager now that has a problem with his attitude, he's clearly not very fit, he lives with his buddies,... Clearly there is a professionalism problem here.

I'm really looking forward to Mourinho's fake sadness
By all accounts, Shaw's focus was on the massive wages before he even started earning them. Hence his move to Chelsea fell down, despite growing up supporting them. United have been far too loose with their spending since Fergie retired, if you ask me. This could well be an example of reckless spending biting us on the arse. Apart from anything else, the transfer fee we spent on this kid was one of the most ridiculous in the history of football.
Right up there with £89 million for Pogba.

No loyalty. Its clear as day he was going to have a difficult season after his injury and this seems like a bit of a shame everyone is turning against him. And its being driven by the manager

Look, I feel for the guy and he has definitely had a rough ride with injuries, but in 2 and half seasons he hasn't given me a reason to show more loyalty to him than our own manager. People trashing Jose here is just part of a bigger issue of people on this site slamming our managers and giving our squad a free pass since LVG first started (who also had failings of his own). It's never their fault. If this spells the end for Shaw, I'm okay with it. I am equally okay with him staying on provided he makes the necessary commitment.

Typical reporter saying "but he's and English international" as if that means he can't be criticised

What if someone was a Spanish international. I bet the English reporter couldn't care less

My problem is that I don't see any young player developing under Jose. Including Pogba.

Mourinho might be 100% right about Shaw, but I still don't think the player needs to be hung out to dry publicly by his manager.

Shaw should have asked to move on when it became apparent that Jose didn't rate him or didn't fancy him.
He's notorious for it and the only thing for a player to do is move on.

Taking into consideration this has most likely been going on since the beginning of the season, we can safely assume he's spoken to him privately more than enough times. Besides, the press ask about Shaw every fecking presser so he told them the truth.

Even so, could have leaked it to the press through "inside sources" or whatever. Pretty brutal IMV.

Works both ways. People want to know the truth regarding the club and players they support and many a times they don't like the truth.

It appears as though nothing else has worked for Shaw, and the last time a manager publicly hung him out to dry about his fitness (LVG) he came back the following season and played some of the best football of his life.

Hopefully the same happens here.

Shaw was not injured he was overweight and deemed unfit to play. Mourinho has won everything in the game and been surrounded by champion players his entire career, he knows what it takes to reach the elite level so if he sees a poor attitude I trust him 100%.

Mourinho is a liar and De Bruyne is the proof he's a liar. Every single manager who's ever worked with De Bruyne has said he's one of the hardest trainers they've had. Yet Mourinho said he didn't see enough from him in training to keep him at Chelsea.

TBH the Mourinho-fication of United is depressing as hell. There was a moment where I thought maybe, just maybe, he'd adapt to us as much as we needed to adapt to him, but sadly that's proven to not be the case. Watch as Luke ends up at Spurs, and Danny Rose ends up at Shitty. We'll end up with another overpriced/overhyped Mendes/Raiola client and continue to wonder why no matter who much we spend we lag behind our so called rivals where it matters. On the pitch.

And several managers have come out and said Luke Shaw doesn't.

By biggest concern with this Luke Shaw thing is the bigger picture. I didn't want him in the first place I wanted Ricardo Rodríguez at the time.

But I'm worried for Martial, Fosu-Mensah, Perierra and Rashford. All of which are either playing below par or not playing at all. Mourinho was reading out a list of young players he brought through but in his confused head he things playing young players is being pro youth but it's actually using them, and developing them.

How many players has he actually made better, he has not really improved a single player. Only Ibrahimovic seems to be in form, Valencia been solid all season. His signings can't be considered successes not one of them would be in the team of season for anything.

I don't care if Luke Shaw leaves (even Van Gaal said he had issues). I'd more more worried if it leads to others like Martial and co. Who is a top player but no one looks like a good player under him. His football is terrible. Why are we passing and moving the ball so slowly.

He has a go at Conte/CFC for being defensive but they're football is a million miles better than ours not sure where he's getting that logic from. So far more questions than actual answers. People will say we have a lot of 'deadwood' he needs time etc. but we're in danger of being a revolving door. Unless he finishes in the top 4 or wins the Europa League he's just as much of a failure as Van Gaal. Not saying he should be sacked but he needs to show something in terms of results or just better football that isn't like watching paint dry. Something concrete to make you think he can progress next summer.

People are deluded if they think just adding a Griezmann and throwing another 250m will solve everything. Football is about coaching, style of play not just personal. He got every single player he wanted in summer yet the football is not really any better and teams are coming to OT and doing a job on him every single time. He has no plan to deal with teams who sit deep and let us have the ball.

Really don't know how I feel about this. His last outing for us he looked like he was up for it, and got stuck in.

I feel Mou's been really harsh, but it's true that we have no clue whether Shaw is putting in the work. We'll have to trust Mourinho's assessment on things like that.
