Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

He has proper turned them into stoke fc. And some called him an elite manager

Yeah some put him just behind Klopp and Pep, which was crazy.

Emery is doing well at Villarreal. Seems like Arsenal are having the same problems as us post Fergie and people did say that would happen. Some Arsenal fans were not believing it and were convinced they’d be better than they were under Wengers last few years.

What's Arsenal's plan with Arteta. Are they trying to get back to the top? Or get back to top 4 trophies? What's the plan here

Apparently had two more points under Emery after 9 games last year.

Arsenal's problems started before Wenger left though. The chronic underinvestment and the lack of player accountability drove away Van Persie and Fabregas and its only been downhill since. They lost a lot of leadership when which they never managed to fill and Wenger was a little over accommodating to young players with egos.

Saying that, they have the most expensive front 3 in the league. I think only PSG cost more worldwide.

Arse weren't even good in their game against us. We were just hopeless. Arteta is another one of these wannabe ex player coaches coming through these last couple of years that simply aren't good enough.

I think we've seen enough evidence that underinvesting for a while and panicking to overspend is always more trouble than a solution. That is indeed something both clubs have in common.

Their spending is actually pretty well spread out. They have a 50m player not even on their squad list. Theyve spent big money over a nunber of seasons. Xhaka cost a bit, Partey as well.

You can tell he has a mid table mindset aswell, celebrates wins vs fodder sides like trophy's and today encouraging his players to waste time to gain a point vs newly promoted sides like a Stoke side under Pulis would do.

Also if Leno goes down for any length of time, would it be that big a stretch to imagine them fighting the drop?

I think he’s got no clue how to get them playing. They seem to get outplayed most weeks and he sets them up negatively even in home games.

It's telling how long they’ve gone without scoring in open play.

Is he really better than Emery just because he won the FA Cup?

He's more Benitez than Pep.

They have fixed some of their defensive issues but they are boring as hell. He can't do a Mourinho because their counterattacks aren't as dynamic as Spurs and they don't have a Son, Kane and in effect a midfield. Xhaka is woeful.

A lot of Arsenal games appear to follow a similar pattern. Quite good defensively but not much creativity - 9 goals in 9 games so far as a team and 3 of those came on opening day vs Fulham.

You'd think with a forward line of Aubameyang, Lacazette, Willian and Pepe they'd be able to figure out a way to get the odd goal here and there, and at least outscore mid-table sides more often than not.

He's more Moyes than pep. Fixed it for you.

Have no idea who their second choice is now but they beat all of Sheffield United, Fulham and West Ham early on so will be a good 20 odd points above relegation zone.

Think Arsenal will do well to finish above 8th though. Would expect Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, Leicester, Spurs and Chelsea all to finish above them so that's six teams and you'd say there isn't huge difference now with their 11 to Everton's considering DCL is scoring at fantastic rate.

Even when Arsenal weren't at their best under Wenger ,and maybe even under Emery, I still thought they were capable of putting that one move together and come up with a goal. Less so nowadays.
I guess its similar to us to some extent.

the comparisons to us and OGS seem quite apt. Arteta’s stock was certainly high because he was Pep’s assistant.

I think Arsenal were is a better position than we were when both took over.

He's definitely in Pep's mould.
Unfortunately from the Pep current meltdown period mould.

Their problems started before Wenger left yet he consistently had them in that top 4 for most of his last years there. They (and us) need to get a manager who's not some ex player with minimal experience to guide the team into the right direction. Said manager must also be made aware of all the restrictions surrounding the team and transfers beforehand.

Wenger was awful in his last few years though, the fact they've somehow conspired to get even worse shouldn't distract from that. There's a reason opposition fans were chanting that they wanted him to stay!

Playing 5 at the back makes you hard to beat and dull to watch. Wolves arent great to watch either.

I Like the 5 at the back formation but only used in specific games. I'd hate United to play 5 at back week in week out.

It's a massive rebuild job that he's got
Far too many overpaid, totally average players at that club and Arteta is hamstrung by that
The £350k Ozil wage certainly needs to be reinvested well this summer

He's actively adding to that problem though by doing things like signing Willian, Cedric and Mari alongside offering Mustafi and Elnenny new deals.

He didn't play 5 at the back today, he played a 433 formation.

Tbf I didn't watch the game but he's been playing 5 at the back for ages now.

I get why because he doesn't trust the defence but you're not making the top 4 or winning the EL playing like that.

Yeah in ultra defensive mode. At one point you had 9 players in the box

Down to 10 men does that to a lot of teams, sub consciously defending deeper & defending your own box.

That performance wasn't on Arteta. He played 433, he played Auba through the middle like a lot of the fans had been asking for, but the players let him down today. Never mind any tactics, players just didn't win their individual battles today, which meant we had no basis to build play from, & that was the worrying this for me from today's game.

Partey & Elneny would have given us a bit of strength in there, but that's still not acceptable for me.

A lot of unnecessary scrutiny on him in my opinion. He's building foundations and trying to make the team solid before fleshing out the creative outlets. He obviously knows he needs a creator which was why they pursued Aouar so heavily. Theres something behind the scenes to put Ozil out of the picture, but Arsenal generally look a better team than under Emery and you can sense something being built there.

Apart from the fact that they just don’t? They create very few chances and they have less points under Arteta at this point than they did under Emery.

Artera is another "chosen one" so doesn't get the scrutiny Ole does. Lots of casual fans likely think Arsenal are having a good season and Artera is building something there. Reality is that they are behind us having played an extra game and we are bottom of the league at home.

You say that as though Arsenal aren’t extremely defensive with all eleven men on the pitch. Which they were in this game and have been in most games under Arteta. You’ve had a grand total of 10 shots on target in your last 4 league games combined! (one of them a penalty) That’s diabolical.

The pattern in this game was set long before Pepe got sent off. His departure just made it a little more extreme.

He is managing arsenal fc and not Fulham. He has to be scrutinized even more than already. You don't need to have a top creative player to play an attacking or dominant football. He has got three attackers worth more than 180m and his team rarely attack as unit. He has done well to organize the defense but their attacking play has become non existent.

That was before the red card
