Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

He’s taken Arsenal as far as he can. Done a pretty good job too.

Still really satisfying seeing him fail and the Arse fans crying conspiracy.

I'd agree he's taken them as far as he can and they still don't look like winning anything.

Thing is, I doubt there's an available manager in World football who could take them any further.

Good to see him failing time after time. He’s such an arrogant guy.

Rumours on the net claiming Arsenal are thinking of replacing Arteta with Andoni Iraola, the Bournemouth coach. It makes sense to grab him before Spurs step in.

Whatever you might think of Arteta this season, he has to get massive credit for atleast transforming Arsenal from the laughing stock that they were to once again being a Top 2 team.

Considering the money they spent, I would say a very average job.

United and Chelsea have also spent a lot of money and neither has come close to becoming a Top 2 team the way Arsenal have in the past 2-3 years ago so I'd not say its that easy a job.

Yes but we are the 2 worst performers in the league, I wouldn't say that's a fair comparison. I could easily point to other teams in the league who have spent far less and are pretty high up the league.

Arsenal are in a bad place because Arteta has done a bit too well to get rid of him, but he clearly doesn't have what it takes to get them over the line with the big trophies. They're in limbo.

Some impressive managerial ability analysis in this thread
Arteta is going nowhere for at the very least one more full season (i'd even say 2). Unless we sit in 14th next year but i don't really see that happening with that squad.

I do wonder if folk really believe the things they are saying.

He’s spent less than United, Chelsea and Spurs. Excluding City and Liverpool, who both already had brilliant teams when Arteta began, he’s spent the least in the “Big Six”.

There’s plenty of things to criticise Arteta for, but his below average spending for a top team isn’t one of them.

Credit to @wr8_utd , he might not like Arsenal and Arteta but he has reasonable and fair opinions based on facts and reality. The rest is just a loud wumming contest that gets very quiet once United have played.

I hate Arteta as much as anyone else but all of us United fans would be defending him to death for the job he's done if he were Uniteds manager. You can shit him on him for his negativity this season but it's weird to downplay the incredible job he's done in turning around Arsenal, irrespective of the money he's spent. United, after billions, are just above the relegation zone, unfortunately.

People have short memories.
Arsenal were a banter club for around 8? Years.
If it wasn’t for the cheats they would have won something proper.
It’s becoming clear he isn’t the guy to get them over the line (thankfully) but when he does leave they’ll be in a way better state than whe he joined.
Don’t get me wrong I find him obnoxious and irritating but can’t deny he’s done a pretty good job.

Fair fecking play for today. Trusting his academy player and got this result and performance. Can't complain with that.

Let the shackles off particularly 2nd half and showed us the amount of respect we deserved when he did. When they actually come out and play and go for it, they are a phenomenal team and so fluid and pacy in attack..

Calls for his demise a bit premature?

Arsenal obviously have a few more gears in them at full flow. They probably won't catch Liverpool this season but remains to be seen how they do in the cups

The criticism was way too OTT. Arsenal are still very much in this title race and Arteta is not even remotely close to having his job in trouble.

I genuinely believe that there isn't a title race.
If Liverpools game in hand was a nailed on 3 pointer, I'd agree it's very difficult. But I definitely see them dropping points and there's definitely a race still on. Arsenal, when on their game, are a better team than Liverpool imo.

The Arsenal of last season were better. They've been unconvincing this time around. Would like to see them finish above the scousers, but I think they've left themselves with too much to do.

Arsenal when on their game have been the best team in the league the last 3 years, maybe even in Europe. The question mark remains the same, how long will it last ? Or will they drop points at Everton away for example when its do or die.

That’s not true at all this season, and there are no stats or visuals to back up the idea that Arsenal are better than us.

Arsenal have looked toothless in several games up top whereas we largely haven’t, whilst matching them defensively.

I do mean when they're on their game. Plus, they've been going on big runs in second half of seasons for two seasons in a row. Don't want to derail the thread with title talk but, the crux of the matter is that there's a bit too much criticism of Arteta. He's continuing to keep Arsenal extremely competitive.

Neither team even at their best is anywhere near the same level as Forest when they're on their game.

Liverpool may be leading now, but I think Forest have a good chance to win the title. I agree with you. The race is definitely not over.

I think what most of the 'sane' Arsenal fans see that things just haven't fallen for us in general this season. Between injuries, sending offs , penalties etc it just feels like 1 of those seasons where we haven't had the rub of the green and our results and performances have suffered as a result. I think that we've actually done well to be the best of the rest.

Liverpool full deserve to be where they are, they've been the best team in the league this season, their main guys have stayed relatively fit and it's showed in their results and performances.

We need to have our wee Dubai break, come back energised and just try our best to make them win it at least. We then need to address that attack in the summer.

Oh I agree with you on that. Arsenal fans are incredibly emotional and some of them forget where they were when he came in. Built a really good squad.

He’s starting to get to the point where he needs to win something though. He’s spent a lot of money.

Yup, that's a fair assessment.

We're actually doing quite well overall given the number of things that have gone wrong this season, from long term injuries to our two most important creative players to four red cards, to a lot of other random strange moments.

Fair play to Liverpool, they deserve to be leading the league and have had a great season. If we had equal luck in terms of injuries to the most important players and equality in terms of penalties and red cards, I think we'd probably be a bit ahead of them. But that's not how football works.

I think the important thing is to be a club that is competing every season and when you have a nightmare season in terms of injuries and other things not to fall apart, fall out of the Champions League, have the club go into crisis, etc. We've done that very well and while I think the league is very unlikely this year, we'll be better positioned than any other club to win it next year.

About 99% of the "Arteta will be under pressure if he doesn't win something soon" stuff I've seen comes from supporters of other clubs. Aside from a couple social media morons, nobody within the Arsenal fan base is thinking like that and there has never been any indication at all that his sentiment exists within the club. Frustrated with this season for sure, but not remotely thinking about the manager being under pressure.

The Manchester Cup must have had multiple winners this season.
Spurs won away against both us and City. North London has therefore had a clear advantage over Manchester this season.

When was the last time in which neither Manchester side finished in the top four?

It’s easy to say it against teams that laugh at us yet have won less than us. For example… spurs and Arsenal. Beat us both but even we’ve won more then them 2 put together in the last 10 years.

Arsenal today capitalised on City’s mistakes, first half didn’t really create anything.

Liverpool have the best player in the world Salah who can place it in the top corner and grab those tight games.

Both teams still have alot of work to do, not convinced or confident to say X will win the league.
