His signings also haven’t helped. 6 years at Arsenal and he’s only added Jesus, Haverz and Trossard if I’m not mistaken, all of whom are just fine. That’s not good enough if you want to win in the league. They cost a decent amount (especially Havertz) and more importantly, you’ve spent boatloads on other areas.
Jesus was brilliant up until his first knee injury.
Havertz has 31 G/A from 47 appearances as a CF. He cost pretty much the same as Solanke, Hojland and Richardlison and has performed significantly better than all of them. It was a very standard fee for a starting PL forward.
And Trossard was a second choice signing who cost £20m + add-ons has contributed 40 G/A as a rotation option.
My problem is not with who we’ve bought. It’s who we haven’t bought. As I’ve said, Isak would transform our fortunes. But right now, we’re short on fit professional footballers to play in our forward positions.
I completely understand that it’s difficult to identify level-raisers for a team that is 2nd in the PL. But right now, we just need players that are capable of maintaining our level with so many forwards out and that should be more than doable.
