Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Has it happened before in First Divison/PL that a team finished 2nd for 3 seasons in a row?
Think Arsenal themselves did it in 99, 00 and 01.
I mean it's funny banter but people called Klopp a serial bottler and nearly man after losing two finals in UCL, a Europa League final and coming second in EPL until he went and won it all (well except for UEL).

Let's not forget that Arsenal 99-01 won the league after finishing second three times in a row. I actually agree with some of the Arsenal fans who are quietly optimistic that they are in a good position to win it next year provided they make 1-2 good signings, mainly in attack.

City already are in transition and Liverpool without peak VVD, Salah, Robertson will not be the same either. I think the key Arsenal players will reach and or stay in their peak for another good 4-5 years while promising youngsters like Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly mature. There's no guarantees of course, but their full story is not written just yet.

Nonsense. Managers walking out of interviews in a huff is a talking point if the manager is a rookie or a serial winner. We see the reactions in here when Klopp got spikey during post match interviews after damaging results and he's won the lot.
Do you really think people scrutinise serial winners being sore losers the same way they would trophyless Arteta? Fergie, Pep, Mou, Wenger - when they were sore losers, people would give them a hell of a lot more leeway because these guys have the medal to prove their arrogance cockiness. Arteta has nothing.

He isn't quite trophyless.

I just think we over analyse sometimes, and think of things as Black & White and don't take into account the nuances behind it. Statements like Arteta won't win anything because he's too emotional. Does emotion hold the likes of Klopp or Simeone back? I'd say it's more likely he won't win anything if he doesn't build a good enough team or get them playing more freely to win games.

Arsenal themselves did it between 99-01
Thanks. Well guess it could be a good sign for Arsenal as well - another 01/02 coming perhaps. All about how City and Liverpool rebuild for next season and if Arsenal do get a striker/attacking player.

I've been backing Arsenal to win it last 2 seasons and can see it still happening next year. But they'll have to prove they're able for that final, crucial step.
