Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Not sure what's happened with this lot. Gone from a really fine attacking outfit to relying on set pieces.

Even we blew Everton away at home, so it's an absolute unforgiveable couple of lost points, missing a superb chance to take 2 points off Liverpool who at least had a 75min handicap of 10men for not winning their home banker.
Probably teams taking them more seriously. Denying space and time to their attackers and rushing them to make decision.

Of course they did well with set pieces in games but they need to find a good striker. Havertz won't give them what they needed.

This is it in a nutshell. We went up a level so now teams view a draw as a good result against us. Truly elite teams that consistently win the biggest trophies adapt to that new reality. We haven’t managed to do that. A well organised mid-block (especially with wing-backs) pretty much negates us.

Mid week games also started to take the toll for you guys. Constant pressing harrassing opponents and pace of your game goes down a little. Need more options from bench to overcome that. Need to refresh that bench with more quality.

He is lucky that all these years media spotlights were exclusively on Pep, Klopp and United managers. In reality he is a flop and it is amazing that it goes unnoticed.

Agreed. Paying the price for not being able to add real quality in attack. If you think that Havertz was initially bought as a midfielder, our forward spend has literally been Trossard and Jesus, with Willian and Sterling as free / loan options. That's just not good enough, even if you add Havertz to it.

Too much focus on defensive signings and not enough on attacking.

They need to go all out for one of these highly rated, ready made strikers and I think they’d be fine again. Trouble for them is no club is going to let their talismanic striker leave midway through the season in January so Arsenal will have to wait. I see all the names Arsenal fans are throwing out there like Isak & Gyokeres but there’s zero chance these players leave their current clubs next month.

Tbh, in hindsight it was straight up insanity to enter this season thinking Havertz was good enough to be your main striker for a whole season.

While I wouldn’t say no to a deadly striker (who would), Havertz has 10 goals and 2 assists for us this season. Not world beating, but also not terrible.

Our play down the left has been very poor. We basically relying on Saka to shake off the two players who double up on him each match as we predictably channel everything down the right. If I could wave a magic wand and have either Leao or Gyokeres, I would take Leao every single time.

Harvetz is not a match winner. In games like today or Fulham you need strikers who can take those half chances and win you matches. I know last time you had said leao, but I still think a top class number 9 would make a difference between those draws and wins.

As a Chelsea fan who knows Kai well I know he’s not a reliable match winner or a forward who is going to put the team on his back or drag you to 3 points with any consistency. He’s a streaky goal scorer. And he isn’t or shouldn’t be anyone’s main #9. He’s a great complimentary attacker.

I mean, Havertz has literally won us several matches with his goals. Also, I literally just said I’d be all for us signing a top level striker. But I’m not fussed whether the goals come from a number 9.

City’s main threat is a central striker (Haaland) and Liverpools main threat is a winger (Salah). Successful team build around the strengths their best players, so I guess I don’t really get the obsession with goals coming from your CF.

Havertz is already into double figures for the season and plays as a false 9. If we had a prolific Inside Forward on the left (like Leao, but I’m not fussy - anyone who bangs them in will do) that would be a very difficult front line to deal with. But once again, if we somehow convinced Newcastle to part with Isak… I wouldn’t exactly be upset.

He’s actually been pretty consistent when played as a striker for us. He has 15 goals and 9 assists in his 37 games up top for us.

Seeing as he’s a false 9, his output if actually pretty high. And his goals are spread out across matches, he’s not banging in hat-tricks against the weaker teams.

Unacceptable performance(s). Look at Liverpool going all at it. I have always said and will always say, any team which keeps dropping idiotic points at home will not win a title. Its unacceptable we have dropped yet another 2 points. Its utterly pointless picking up excellent points against rivals away from home and then having to look forward to easy games at home but then squandering all the hard work done and dropping everything at home. In addition, Arteta has lost so many points when he benched Nwaneri and Jorginho for multiple games and we struggled without a CAM. I am also a bit sick of Havertz now, he's totally anonymous. He was very good last year but he's been very poor so far, his replacement in Jesus is even worse.

We have/on the verge of scoring the most goals in our history in a calendar year, which is great but just wish in certain moments of a game we could be more reckless because I am bemused as to why, against a dire Everton team who ceded almost 80% of the ball, did we still play almost the entire game with 2 DMs?

I feel our best chance is the CL and domestic trophies. Liverpool have all the top teams to play for away from home, while I am confident they will keep dropping points I know so will we, based on the tripe we saw today. And I am gutted in a season where the cheating oil club is having a mare, we are not taking advantage of it.

Isak might be tempted, Newcastle are going nowhere fast, no European football this season and probably won't get it for next season either.

He's going to want to be at a bigger club soon enough.

Odegaard was doing it literally seconds after kick-off against us the other week when they won a throw-in. It’s pathetic.

Just something about the club makes me feel like they’re more concerned with how things look than how things are.

He may be but there’s no way Newcastle are selling their main goal scorer and perhaps best player midseason to another PL club.

I think their squad of players really overperformed over the last couple of seasons.

A good side, absolutely, but the drop off towards something a little more normal is not a surprise.

While I certainly think it's fair to critize him for their current lack of form, I think the argument that he spent this or that is a bit daft. There are four other clubs in the Premier League which spent similar (or more, in one case much much more) amounts, and I don't see why it would be better for Arsenal to sack him and start over. I realize that at one point he needs to deliver something, but for now I thknk he's done enough to be safe.

Based on what? I’d genuinely like to know.

A lack of quality in Europe I suppose.

That, and probably just the fact it's a cup competition and over 2 legs anything can happen. It's certainly nothing to do with our past performances in the competition.

He’s probably their Brendon Rodgers rather than their Klopp.

He is definitely a Poch, Rodgers, Howe even Ten Hag level manager. If Emery had the same funds and resources Lego man has been given. The Gooners would of won the league or at least another FA cup by now.

British media and sections of their fan base have criminally overrated them. The league has been incredibly poor last few seasons. Us and Chelsea becoming the new “banter clubs”. Liverpool dipped in Klopps last few seasons. Arsenal fans must be thinking they blew a massive opportunity to go and break the 20 year curse for a league title. I fancy Chelsea now to push Liverpool for the title. Lego man needs to win the FA cup to save his job.

Can't tell if serious. Emery was fired from Arsenal after making them worse while spending a fortune and managed to lose a league title while managing PSG. The idea that he for some reason would be able to top Pep is hilarious to me. His level is Europa League and challenging for top 4.

PSG is a basket case of a football club . The guy won a Europa league title with Villareal. Turned Villa into a champions league club out of nowhere. Even beat Lego man last season. The guy was given David Luiz, Torreria , Pepe. Imagine you gave him Rice , Ødegaard and Raya. He also gave Saka who is Arsenal best player his chance in football . Was the one who signed Saliba. Sorry he is a better manager than Arteta . Can’t see any argument other than the PSG one. Many top coaches have failed there so even then its a weak one. Tactically he is far superior. Pep season before no. But even last season City didn’t look as strong. Arsenal basically handed them the league last season. Tony Adams said Emery would of got them over the line

Yeah, he won a Europa League with Villareal. He has done nothing to suggest he would be able to beat a Pep managed City to the title though. He didn't even get to a CL quarter with PSG. City might not have been that great last season but they still got something like 57 of the last 63 points. Arsenal's second half of last season has basically only been bettered by City. I genuinely don't see why Emery would be able to beat Pep to a title in any team.

It's cheeky sliding ten Haag in there. Arteta has spent £656m in five years. Ten Haag spent £617m in two years and left Amorim an uphill task. with United in the bottom half.

Fair point about the media overrating him, but credit where it's due, guiding his team team to 89 and 84 points in consecutive seasons is no small feat. Those numbers would have won the league in most other seasons if it weren't for City's financial doping. I am not his biggest fan either, but you've got to admit he has been unlucky to miss out. That said, he still needs to deliver trophies to cement his legacy, end of the day, its all about trophies and winning just one trophy, an FA Cup from 4 years ago in his 5 years at Arsenal is just not good enough. Winning an FA Cup this season would give him some breathing space.

Might finish behind two managers in their first season. Can’t roll out the “if only City wasn’t around” excuse much longer.

Emery wasnt given Torriera & Pepe ,Leno. He chose to sign them. Ir was Arteta who chose to sign Odegaard, Rice and Raya.

You cant gaslight Arsenal fans on Emery. He was an unmitigated disaster for us. Player power at Arsenal was something else. Players used to turn up late to training ect and nothing would happen. Emery was a door mat

Has joined the Mourinho school of thinking by correcting a reporter asking about the fact he's only won one trophy.
