Low-key I am absolute puzzled why so many of you are so salty towards Arteta? He seems such a nice dude and I like his approach.
They haven't even played the first game of the season yet, and the manager is already on the "next season" rhetoric.
Have you ever seen him on the sideline? Or the absolute cringefest from that Amazon documentary?

Surely he has to do more than simply finish in the top four. He's spent over £600m, been at the club for a few seasons now, and just added a £105m player to what was, apparently, an already great team. He get's a bit of an easy ride this bloke.
You would have thought so wouldn't you? Don't think I've seen many teams and managers be praised so much for absolutely bottling a title like these lot did last season. Chelsea spent 600m last season alone. Arteta has spent a lot of money but it’s par for the course these days, he’s spent that money on assembling the youngest side side in the league, with a wage bill that has until now been significantly lower than at least 4 other clubs. He hasn’t pissed the money up the wall he’s transformed the squad from when he took over.
I’m not sure what you mean, even the biggest Arteta sceptic surely agrees that City will be favourites and it’s not giving Arteta an easy ride to acknowledge that fact?

Never said he "pissed the money up the wall" and the comparison to Chelsea isn't a fair one because what they did was nonsense. He's spent his money well - that's why I'm saying more should now be expected of him. He's assembled a great squad for a massive amount of money and he's been there for a few seasons now. They are in no way comparable to Chelsea. You just chose the most basket case example.
He does get an easy ride, evidenced by how he was treated last season for bottling it. Which they did. Of course, City will still be favourites.

When he took over they were in free fall and all over the place with an aging unbalanced squad with a bunch of players on big contracts. It was always going to cost a lot of money to get to this point. He challenged for the title last season so I don’t see how that’s not delivering.
And that’s one way to look at it, another way to look at it is that very few people expected them to challenge. So it’s fair to point out that they bottled the league at the end, while also acknowledging that overall it was a good season where they challenged for the title in a season no one thought they would.

Interesting you say that and I too found it cringe worthy at times. However in Declan Rice's first interview with us he actually cited the Amazon doco and Arteta being the big reason he joined. He talked about how Arteta came across really well as a manager, the psychological factors of working and improving players. Made me realise that what may come across as lame or OTT to us fans is actually inspiring for players. Guess that's why I'm not an athlete.
I'm sure if Arsenal kept Emery and let him spend 600m on his own players, he would have done a similar job.

The players are mostly of a good age profile and won’t be short of suitors though, Havertz is the only real dodgy deal they made, so if they do sack him the new coach can easily work with what he has, or turnover enough of them for funds to play with.
Right, and it's fair to expect them to challenge for the league again, while also doing more in the same cup competitions they got bombed out of last year in order to bottle the league. Just don't get the need to give the bloke a pat on the head and a well done for trying, which seems to be the general sentiment around him.
Again, he gets an easy ride in comparison to others. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that Arenal have been under the radar for the most part of the last two decades or so, so I guess it's the default attitude towards them (and by extension, him). But they're with the big boys now when it comes to spending. And they should be treated as such.

I don’t know, Emery is a very good manager so he may well have done, but I don’t really see the point in discussing a hypothetical like that when we can discuss what a manager has actually done at a club.
I’ve actually argued Arteta’s merits many times with you. The last time was last summer when you told me Arteta was a charlatan and a conman, and that you very much doubted he’d make top 4 for the 22/23 season and that he’d be sacked.
It’s honestly been the complete opposite situation. This thread from its inception has very much argued that he’s a fraud, shit etc and every summer he’s going to be sacked. Reading through it shows it’s full of poor predictions and bad takes.
I cant believe the reaction to the game, another indicator of why arsenal absolutely bottled the title. There were no terrible challenges at all, and youd argue the heavier ones were from them. I see media pieces, arsenal fans and even arteta to a degree going in on the narrative of arsenal needing protection or that they will be 'roughed up'. pure petulance from some of their players last night too it was all pretty embarrassing.
We're on a Man Utd forum - of course you're going to get that. I'm talking more generally, not strictly based on the opinions of this forum. I'm willing to acknowledge he's done a good job with Arsenal, but he also gets a way easier ride than some of the other big teams and managers. Again, they seem to fly under the radar due to them not being in the spotlight for so long. That's why you get this pat on the head, well done for trying sentiment we saw last season even though they absolutely fecked it with some truly awful results, all while binning off the cup competitions.
I think Rice will be a decent signing for them in the long run. Nothing truly special, but solid enough. The one I can't understand is Havertz. That's a truly bizarre signing for me.
Noone can convince me that heart and brain drawing was in any way inspiring to the players. He'd have to coach an under-7's side for that to work.
Well he's doing something right because 3 years ago we were a completely different side who looked absolutely lost. We were in freefall and looked like we'd drop out of the top half of the table. I hope he has more child-like drawings he can wow the players with.

Was about to say what @InfiniteBoredom said. There's no real concern of those players being 'his' players. Saka and Martinelli are better than any wingers that we have got bar Rashford. Odegaard is very good and is their Bruno. Saliba was excellent last season and they sorely missed him when he was injured and they had to play Kiwior/Holding. They have a very good squad who are all still young as well. Any decent manager would love to work with them.
Hope he won't be another managerial casuality of generational talent havertz. .
