Just annoys me reading that article. LVG was too rash at times... a good manager, but I didn't like his style. Mourinho has shown that pupil can become better than teacher.

I think LVG is/was losing it. People always talk about what he did in the world cup, but players can also raise their own games in those 6-7 matches they played. LVG came to a completely new league one he had no experience in and sold 14 players and brought in 6. Like we didn't have enough disruption from Fergie and David Gill leaving the year before.

Keane has looked good when I've seen him this year. I was surprised when we let him go. Hope there is at least a sell on percentage cause in the contract.

I think with all the money nonsense that gets thrown about we forget that footballers are human beings who want to make an honest living (or at least the vast majority do).

If Mike was still here, would he be getting a game? No.

It's best to let the ones who aren't quite good enough leave.

If he was here he wouldn't be the player he is today.. But would love to sign him..

That's exactly it. If we'd held onto him he'd never have progressed in the way he has with Burnley.

He wouldn't be top of my list of centre backs to bring in, but the notion that he could do a better job than Jones, Rojo or Smalling isn't a ridiculous one.

Putting it mildly :p

A bit of Terry and a bit of Rio. Typewise. Not in their prime obviously.

He is at a similar stage as Terry was when Mourinho first arrived at Chelsea. And I think he has great potential.

It's a bit annoying how we had this lad on our books, let him go for relatively little, and if he was here now he'd be a guaranteed starter.

He's quite good. What a horrible decision it was by van Gaal to let him go.

He's very good. What a horrible decision it was by van Gaal to let him go.

Would he be as good if he did not? Burnley was perfect for him.

Anyone remember how he struggeled with Bale in that pre-season match? Guess anyone would, but he looked out of depth. Made huge strides since.

With one year left of his contract he should be interesting for us.

Would love to have him back, always felt the Keane brothers had the talent to play for us.

Still, he was completely neglected when it came to the opportunity to ever prove himself: all opportunities went to McNair and Blackett when virtually every poster on here who was familiar with the youth team was adamant that Keane was far better than both.

There was also that Chelsea FA cup game, where he played with Scott Wootton in central defence and played very well against their first XI. Granted, we conceded quite a few goals, but none were his fault.

Yep.

Good player. Don't think he is at the level where we should be trying to persuade him to come back just yet, but I will say he looks the better defender out of him and cahill.

Different manager, he wouldn't hold that against us. I would imagine if we were interested in a year or two as were other big teams he would have much more affection for us.

True. They were also quite adamant about Thorpe. However, does not matter much. What is important is that we should bring him back.

He has all the qualities that Smalling and Jones lack. That natural defender instinct and the ability to stay calm the most distinct.

There is no but. It is Bale. It reminds me of I think Ben Davies on twitter. Got heckled by fans after getting cut in on by Bale and hitting a long range goal. Was asked why he didn't try to block him and Davies replied that he did try but it was physically impossible because Bale is just that quick and good. I wouldn't hold getting beat by Bale against any defender let alone a young one with little experience at the top level.

How Blackett got to play. At least McNair has a bit of potential himself and isn't too bad but bloody Blackett. Just awful.

McNair was cabbage too.

At Burnley hes been allowed to play game after game, develop, and make and learn from mistakes (whereas if he was here, a mistake would see his threads full of "hes shit, get out" - same on twitter, and such). Also think he would be in and out of the team.

Him moving was best thing for him tbh.

Van Gaal got rid of all this deadwood apparently and we are better for it as we have replaced them all with higher quality players in all positions. Van Gaal was a genius.

It was a sensible move for him to go to Burnley, playing regular football with very little pressure on him to perform and learning his trade under a decent manager.

Hindsight is a funny thing as it wouldn't have been guaranteed he'd perform as well as he has but for us.

I also think building on a group of players with some "lojalty" to the club and eachother has value. Having him, Lingard, Pogba and Rashford from our acadamy would be great.

Yep.
Jesus, that kid was awful. Now he wasn't the only reason we lost that game, but he was certainly a major factor. Wasn't he a scouser as well?

No idea. Only know he recently played for Leeds. And yes, I think he made mistakes for 3 of their goals IIRC.

He wasn't and isn't. Keane is better and always was but McNair has his positives and has performed at a decent level on several occasions. He should be a solid PL player and miles better than Blackett.

Agreed. Talented footballer. Still don't know his best position, but certainly shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Blackett.

Decent enough game for him against a decent opponent in Sane. He got caught once but showed some nice distribution at times.

Getting caught by Sane isn't the worst thing - that lad is quality. Thought Keane did well tonight.

Van Gaal let go of him and Welbeck. Two local lads. Will never forgive him for that.

That said, when Keane went I wasn't really kicking up a fuss, but since he's been playing often, he's shown how good of a defender he is.

If Smalling and Jones had a few seasons learning their trade at centeback in the Championship at a smaller club rather than filling gaps at rightback (and in Jones' case midfield), they'd have both be far more accomplished defenders by now; it's a lesson that should certainly be taken on board with Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah.

I'd bring him back, and I feel he'd become an absolute rock under Jose; Rojo and Bailly would benefit playing next to his more measured, aerially stronger game. He has no real weaknesses and could be a future captain, given his childhood affiliation to the club.

I found it absolutely bizarre that LVG opted for McNair and Blackett ahead of him and Thorpe (who's now wasted trotting around in midfield for Bolton) as both looked like candidates to go all the way a United at one point.

Price wise, I think £25-30m for Keane is fair, and less of a risk than a Lindelof. He looked very accomplished tonight

We need a cool calm tall CB with pace and good passing. Not another Phil Jones type.

We need someone better than Bailly and Rojo and Michael Keane isn't.

If we don't sign a world class CB in the summer, we won't win the league next season.

Why does the defense get so much stick, look at the league table Chelsea have conceded two more goals than us and they play with two defensive minded midfielders. We are were we are because our forwards refuse to score not because we are leaking goals. The defense should be upgraded for if we get into the champions league.
