Shit player, never wanted him. Delighted to see him leave. A bad choice as our number7.

Good riddance. All hype, all flash, no substance.

EDIT:

Video title.

A player for the YouTube generation, that's for sure.

 It's a 2 minute video and nearly 3/4s of the footage is from the same game.

I do think he has talent but he doesn't want it bad enough. Too much too soon.

I doubt it. He played under LVG for Holland and was supposedly very fond of him.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33631715

LVG gave Memphis a real chance, it was only about half way through the season last year that Memphis started to fade from view and that was because he didn't deliver as a winger, a number 10 or a striker.

I agree with this, with the caveat that it seemed like LVG was tougher on his Dutch players. I thought it might be LVG's way of showing that he wasn't biased but RVP and Memphis and Buttner seemed to get rougher treatment.

I guess Daley Blind would be the counter argument.

Let's hope he does a De Bruyne and then wants to return for some "depayback"

Very gutted he couldn't replicate what he did at Bordeaux. He's still got a lot to learn to exceed his potential because talent can only take you so far. Really surprised they managed to sell him for 21 million with a buy out clause which made me laugh, I guess they don't want another Pogba incident lol I hope he does well at Lyon, he's still young and has got alot of hard work to do to improve his game if he ever wants to reach his potential.

Eh?

Bordeaux ?

Doesn't really mean we rate him.

It means we are covering all eventualities with both a buy-back and sell-on clause. Just good business sense.

I think it does, otherwise why would we include a buy back clause? We clearly feel that he might still make it as a top player. I do definitely agree though, we are showing better business acumen in both buying and selling and I think a large part of that has to be attributed to Mourinho.

Don't you mean PSV?

Edit - Ah... just realised you were thinking of Obertan.

nail on the head. if he worked as hard as CR7 in training instead of dressing up like Snoop Dogg i think we might have seen a different side. Might work out and with maturity he'll come nack but I doubt it very much

Mourinho said the other week in a press conference that the public perception some people have of him is a load of balls basically.

He's a very good professional, is the only thing I can say. I know the public image is always influenced by some details of their private lives but the reality is that he is a very good professional, a very good boy. He has a high level of education, super polite, super professional, and works really hard.

Great job Ed. Slowly becoming a legend here. Now give the no7 to someone who deserves it. GRIE7MANN :drool:

Win-win.

He gets necessary minutes for his development. We free up some wages and a slot in the squad. And should Memphis make the sun rise from the west, we have an option of bringing him back.

Nice reference :). Good deal for us and Lyon by the sounds of it. Hopefully he can rebuild his career there. Chairmen/Club Presidents tweeting though is just a bit cringe-worthy really though isn't it. Thankfully Ed hasn't done it though I totally could have seen him doing it in 2013/2014.

Schneiderlin and Memphis both left. Darmain not highly rated and Schweinsteiger completely out the picture. Great last Summer for LVG. I remember some saying it was our best ever at the time.

Yeah that didn't quite work out as hoped did it? :(

If his brain worked 0.5 seconds quicker, he'd be a top class player. As it is, he requires just a little too long on the ball to be a success in England.

I don't begrudge LvG for taking this punt. It was worth the gamble.

The fact no big clubs wanted him tells you a lot. Even the other Premiership sides wouldn't pay the quite low fee Lyon have paid. Schneiderlin at least went to the second level of Premiership clubs. Shows how poor LVG transfer policy was.

Sell on fee & a buy back clause - José is definitely a Football Manager fan

On a serious note, I'm glad to see the club are handling our sales a lot better. In previous years I would of expected to see Schneiderlin & Depay leave for a combined fee of £20m.

Im glad we have put in a buyback clause for once! We should be doing this to all of our young talent. I am happy with this deal if it goes ahead.

I think he is a very good player but his lifestyle off the pitch is terrible and so happy he is sold

What do you know about his lifestyle off the pitch? I keep reading it and feel that I haven't been invited to all the parties.

I feel the same, I hear Mourinho saying he's a lovely well spoken, well educated lad and then I hear he has shit style on his social media.

So... I really must be missing out on a tonne of invites :(

I don't like how omnipresent french owners are but it is understandable like in Italy, the clubs are mostly owned by man who loves the club and spend their own money for no other reason than passion, they are not employees, they are not trying to make money and it's their "baby".

He could really only operate in three positions for United so who do we leave out? Zlatan, Miki, Martial? Then there's Mata and Rashford too so the competiton was strong.

We simply had better options. He's still a good player and will be a good signing for Lyon.

Slow-thinking and indecisiveness was his biggest problem, but if he can learn to release and move the ball quicker he can still become a top player.

Good point, hadn't thought that way about the Italian owners, was thinking more of that plank from West Ham.

Dont really get the abuse some of our fans give him, wasnt good enough, move on. I agree with @Dante about the 0.5 seconds, that's why in the EL/CL he wasnt any worse than our other players, in that bit slower tempi he thrives, thats his tempo and that's where he can utilize his game, the PL is too fast for his mind and handling speed and that's why he has consistently been so poor in it. In a slower league now, I think he will do well again and is by no means a shit player ir talentless guy.

I still think Memphis will end up a top player. It didn't happen for him at United - doesn't mean it's over for him.

Good move for all parties imo.
Quite. One with limited pace, dribbling ability, strength on the ball, vision, passing ability, intelligence and shooting.

We should not have sold him. Should have kept him for a season and played him a lot.
He'd only break your heart.........

I'm glad he's being sold abroad. All ex-United players have a habit of playing blinders against us. Memphis can be unstoppable on his day
Not in England

Just like Nani did, only with inferior dribbling, shooting and crossing ability

He had to leave, going nowhere at United, could probably count on one hand the amount of decent games he had since signing. Did quite well to get decent money for him also. Wish him all the best, but I doubt the buy-back clause will be activated in this case.

Good deal for us, not sure what Lyon want him for though as their attack is pretty good already.

He'll be there to replace Ghezzal whose contracts ends this summer and eventually to play the second/third offensive player since Fekir is not the player he was before his knee surgery.
