Remember when we laughed at liverpool cuz they spent similar for getting Firmino

Mourinho's recent quotes on offers and in particular the transfer fees are interesting.

Was Moyes and LVG partly to blame for accepting reduced transfer fees and Mourinho is not like them or have the board finally woken up to getting interested parties pay up for players they really want.

TBH, I think we did this under Fergie as well though a lot of the time it was cos he just wanted rid of a player. But the fees we got for Stam, Beckham, RVN especially I thought were so low.

I think United often have to accept lower fees when selling, since they are paying very high wages. The player is only willing to leave if the pay cut isn't too steep and that reduces the achievable fee.

What a disappointment. Depsit my initial hopes, in hindsight I don't think he would have made it at united in any case. But I do think he may have done better had he arrived during any other season. E.g. Had he not joined and been been played in such a stifled sideways environment under Van Gaal last year.

I recall there was a lot of rumour about him joining the scousers prior to coming to us. I think he'd have definitely fared better in their squad under Klopp and even under sweaty Brendan to begin with. He seems like a bit of a cocky tw@ but just think he now has absolutely no confidence whatsoever.

He'll likely move on and do well elsewhere. Possibly Forlan-esque! (Although definitely less likeable!)

LVG did not lose faith quickly. He was a first team player up until the turn of the year and was then permanently benched, so he got half a season to prove himself. Unfortunately, he proved that he was very poor.
He consistently did perform well against lower grade teams, but the moment he came up against EPL level defenders, he was stumped. In fact, it was alarming how consistent this was.
To get lots of game time, even when playing badly, he'll need to play in a very poor team. An EPL team fighting relegation would be good for him. Or a team in the Championship. But preferably a move back to PSV would be ideal. He'll live the next 10 years there, as a hero and he has already earned (and saved) big money in the last 1.5 years, so financially he is already sorted.

One thing I am glad is that Memphis himself has had enough of being on the bench, so at least he is showing some ambition. Anderson, for example, was content to pick up wages and not play and I was beginning to think that Memphis was basically the same.

I wish him all the best at his new club. He is still a very young player and he can still make something of himself.

Half a season is a very short amount of time to lose faith in a young player, IMO. Even in that first half of the season, he only saw out a full 90 minutes in the league on 6 occasions. Though overall it was October when he started to fall out of favour. After the Arsenal defeat, he sat 4 games out and then didn't get many starts after that for the rest of the season. Barring the odd start, he was getting the occasional 15 mins here and there. I think it is fair to say LvG appeared to lose faith in him quite early on.

It seemed bizarre to me because this is a player LvG had coached and managed before. He'd seen his qualities first hand and acted fast to make sure nobody else got him. I was certain Memphis would work out here. It's a shame he didn't. I think he will go on and have a good career so long as his next choice is the right one.

Well its good to see that he has some ambition at least. He's not one to sulk on the sidelines while receiving his fat paycheque so that's admirable.

I was never a fan of this transfer. It seemed very much like an impulse buy just because he was Dutch and so was the incoming manager.

It was really on the back of one good season in the Dutch league and it rarely works out for players coming from there with the exceptions of rare and proven talents often over a number of years so I wasn't that excited by this transfer.

He has talent no doubt and we've seen glimpses of it but he needs someone to nurture it properly in order to aid his development. He should have stayed in the Dutch league for a couple more seasons instead of thinking he'd made it as a footballer after signing for Man UTD.

I would have liked for him to have gone out on loan instead so we wouldn't make a loss on his resale and he could be available in an emergency but as our team is already congested enough with better young talent it doesn't really matter much.

All the best Memphis.

I believe if we sell him,we are making a mistake but time will tell.

Was never interested in signing him, Never wanted him here. Hope we get good money for him. I hope he chooses china so we can get 50 million for him.

Sad stuff. But football moves on. Hope he can pick up a decent career as a player who fecks over our title challengers.

You think he will be become an important player for a top club?
I think he certainly has the potential to be. He's a confidence player and we provided none of that. In the right environment he can be a really useful player. Hopefully he goes abroad and reestablishes himself elsewhere.

Too bad it didn't work for him with us. He is a very talented player and I am sure with the right team and coach, he will show what he is capable of.

Can't say i'll miss him. He had plenty of chances ,but just never lived up to his PSV form.

If he's not going to get a chance then fine, he should go for his own development. But I think not giving him a real shot at this stage is a mistake. He's a talent, and he'll be sold again for good money a few years down the line I'm sure..

Hope he goes to another league and makes a fresh start. Epl was too much of a step up for the guy. He has talent, need to get his physique right, a bit more agility would help him a lot.Need to play consistently to have any sort of improvement. Seria A or Bundesliga would be ideal imo.

Can't remember in the prem a signing of a young player that proved remotely successful since CR or Rooney....Memphis isn't alone as more seem to fail than succeed.

Do you mean just at United? Martial was a huge sucess last season, it's too early to write off this season as well I think.

Hazard was the same age (21) when we signed him as Depay was when you signed him.

Was gifted a career here and the 7 shirt just because he's Dutch basically and then thought he'd made it without earning it here. I doubt we'll ever see what he's really capable of.

Who'd have him? Clearly his attitude absolutely stinks. He's not proven that he can hack it in England despite being here a while so I'd be surprised if a Premier League club took him. Can only really see him going back to Holland where they at least have memory of him not being a complete waste of space.

Hes extremely overrated and once he scores some goals his price will go to ridiculous levels

Id say he's got everton written all over him

Aside from occasional flashes of appearing semi-competent, I've never watched a player who I was less convinced of. It's almost impossible to believe it's the same player from the videos at PSV. He was truly awful in 9/10 appearances for us. I'm intrigued to know how his career will go from here.

Don't think anyone's going to miss him.

A limited player, with only one move in his arsenal, which is to cut inside and shoot. He's can't even do that properly these days, and lacks any ability to go past a competent defender with skill, pace or strength. Lingard is Messi in comparison to how awful Depay has been since he came to the club.

Good riddance. Just reminds me of the bad times under LVG.

Clears the number 7 shirt for a certain Frenchmen too....

He's off to Everton.

Black text.

Still backing your man Ivaldo!

He might be a good player in a lesser league but I don't see him being so good for a top club that we regret letting him go.

Really hoped he would make it here. He has the talent and potential. Everton would be a good fit for him under Koeman.

When I watched him at psv I thought we had a world beater on our hands. His attitude seemed perfect for making the top level, but all that is clearly talk.

He's obviously not got the mentally he claims he does. He's given up at the first Hurdle and obviously prioritises his personal life over his professional one.

I really wanted him to succeed but with mourinho saying he wanted out in the summer let's just wash our hands and move him on.

Utd and in general tbh. Its more a surprise that a young player succeeds than fails and that's why I don't look at the Memphis situation with anything other than disappointed.

TBH I'm more worried about Rashford and Martial. As young players, they need to be playing more regularly and whilst some might say their time will come, like Memphis the opportunities can become more and more limited.

Yep, they are young but trust me, if a griezmann becomes available in the summer (which I think will happen) and Ibra continues as expected, the opportunities become less and less.

Let's not also forget we have a lad at Sunderland and another playing in Spain....like I said Memphis won't be alone.

I keep reading "he has te talent". What exactly is he talented at?

Shame it's not worked out for him, I think LVG made the situation worse but he should really have forced his way into Mourinho's thinking if he was going to be good enough.

He showed glimpses of what he's capable of but alas he's been largely frustrating overall which is what his YouTube "highlights" suggested before he arrived to be fair.

I maintain he's a far better player than he's been made out to be here, yes. He really wasnt given a proper chance at the club.

I still think his movement is absolutely brilliant and he'll always be in a position to score goals in a side that can provide him the chances. He can finish, too.

But the rest of his game left a lot to be desired, really. Mourinho gives the impression that he hasn't wanted to be here all season and we're better off cutting our losses and getting the best fee we can get.

You only have to look at his time in Holland to see there is plenty of talent. Ronaldo agreed and called him the best young player around.

But transferring that Dutch talent to a tougher league is something all together different.
I also watched PSV quite a bit when he was there and that's why i never wanted us to sign him. I saw a player that was too one dimensional. The defenders kept giving him space to get his shots away, of which he took a ridiculous amount. Beyond that, I was never really impressed with the rest of his game.
When a manager that bring you to a club gives up on you and the next manager doesn't even bother, you have to say it's because the said player, is quite clearly not good enough.

Maybe MD7 can join TC23 at #Everton and create some fantastic brand.

I remember being overly excited when we signed him. We had a new free kick specialist I thought  I was trawling through his social media and watching all his highlight videos and couldn't wait for his first game. It was against Spurs on the opening day of the season and he was pretty average - nothing has really changed in 18months.

I thought PSG might take a punt on him, as he might do better in that lesser league, but they have went for Draxler.

Wish him luck wherever he goes. It's been a sad flop.
