Mourinho's recent quotes on offers and in particular the transfer fees are interesting.
Was Moyes and LVG partly to blame for accepting reduced transfer fees and Mourinho is not like them or have the board finally woken up to getting interested parties pay up for players they really want.
I think United often have to accept lower fees when selling, since they are paying very high wages. The player is only willing to leave if the pay cut isn't too steep and that reduces the achievable fee.TBH, I think we did this under Fergie as well though a lot of the time it was cos he just wanted rid of a player. But the fees we got for Stam, Beckham, RVN especially I thought were so low.
LVG did not lose faith quickly. He was a first team player up until the turn of the year and was then permanently benched, so he got half a season to prove himself. Unfortunately, he proved that he was very poor.
He consistently did perform well against lower grade teams, but the moment he came up against EPL level defenders, he was stumped. In fact, it was alarming how consistent this was.
To get lots of game time, even when playing badly, he'll need to play in a very poor team. An EPL team fighting relegation would be good for him. Or a team in the Championship. But preferably a move back to PSV would be ideal. He'll live the next 10 years there, as a hero and he has already earned (and saved) big money in the last 1.5 years, so financially he is already sorted.
One thing I am glad is that Memphis himself has had enough of being on the bench, so at least he is showing some ambition. Anderson, for example, was content to pick up wages and not play and I was beginning to think that Memphis was basically the same.
I wish him all the best at his new club. He is still a very young player and he can still make something of himself.
I believe if we sell him,we are making a mistake but time will tell.
I think he certainly has the potential to be. He's a confidence player and we provided none of that. In the right environment he can be a really useful player. Hopefully he goes abroad and reestablishes himself elsewhere. You think he will be become an important player for a top club?
Can't remember in the prem a signing of a young player that proved remotely successful since CR or Rooney....Memphis isn't alone as more seem to fail than succeed.
Who'd have him? Clearly his attitude absolutely stinks. He's not proven that he can hack it in England despite being here a while so I'd be surprised if a Premier League club took him. Can only really see him going back to Holland where they at least have memory of him not being a complete waste of space.
Good riddance. Just reminds me of the bad times under LVG.
Clears the number 7 shirt for a certain Frenchmen too....

Most of the reports say £25m to £31m. Where did you get 16 from?He was 16 you drama queen

Do you mean just at United? Martial was a huge sucess last season, it's too early to write off this season as well I think.
Hazard was the same age (21) when we signed him as Depay was when you signed him.

I keep reading "he has te talent". What exactly is he talented at?
I maintain he's a far better player than he's been made out to be here, yes. He really wasnt given a proper chance at the club.Still backing your man Ivaldo!
He might be a good player in a lesser league but I don't see him being so good for a top club that we regret letting him go.

I also watched PSV quite a bit when he was there and that's why i never wanted us to sign him. I saw a player that was too one dimensional. The defenders kept giving him space to get his shots away, of which he took a ridiculous amount. Beyond that, I was never really impressed with the rest of his game. You only have to look at his time in Holland to see there is plenty of talent. Ronaldo agreed and called him the best young player around.
But transferring that Dutch talent to a tougher league is something all together different.
