He needs a loan outside of the premiership, Serie A might be ideal however he should either go back home, China or Mls. That's he's level. Only problem is he needs some exposure first as he's become the forgotten child. Get rid with a sell on or sell back clause just incase he wakes up and smells the coffee however he won't as he's shite.

Well that didn't go how I thought it would when we signed him. Guess he was a YouTube/Dutch league talent. Though honestly his instagram posts are just about his lavish lifestyle, that kinda gives you insight about him and why this has turned out this way.

Also love how Jose is direct about who he's selling. No beating around the bush.

Fair play to Mourinho then, I thought Memphis deserved more chances but as he says himself, no point in that if the player has made it clear he wants to leave.

Think he'll go on to be a very decent player at another club, wonder who the club is though that Mourinho is expecting an acceptable bid from?

Worst signing in the club's history, as far as I'm concerned. £27 fecking million and zero impact. Even Fellaini has had some good spells ffs.

I personally found his Youtube comp quite uninspiring. His goals didn't seem of that high quality with many of them seeming to be up against dodgy keepers. Think he could do well at an Everton, but just not good enough for where we aspire to be. Best of luck to him.

Di Maria would surely run him close.

To me it seems Depay knows he isn't good enough and just doesn't fancy it, hopefully we'll not make a big loss on him.

I agree, though I really thought we atleast had a solid free kick taker in him. I don't think he's even hit one for us.

If you go to his instagram, it just seems that all the money has got to his head. Now someone like pogba also has posts like that but then again he's so much more mentally stronger.

Also Pogba and I share the exact same birthday, so he's my favourite player :D

Memphis' 14/15 season for PSV in terms of goals was a bit odd. 7 were freekicks so from the 22 goals he scored in the league 15 were open play of which a few were headers. Hard to say why he couldn't replicate his set-piece ability at Utd...probably better goalies I guess.

I was really excited for this, thinking we finally have a set piece taker which would be added value that we were (and still are) missing. Though if Pogba is allowed to take them, it might not be a problem.

I really thought he would go out on loan which would have benefited him (hes only 22 so its not like him not being a finished article is a problem). The attitude however does seem to be the biggest problem.

When he took them, was he even hitting the target or testing the keepers? I seriously cant remember that as the case.

He's got to be up there yeah.

In his 18 months at Utd I think he had 4 or 5 good games and 2 of those were against Club Brugge and fc midtjylland. Our Summer 2015 transfer window really was a load of shite looking back, Martial the exception.

Shame. I was excited when we got him. Too much of a playboy.

First Di Maria and then Depay: we should not try to sign anyone PSG is keen on.

Is this the moment where we all say we always knew he was shit?

Nah, probsbly where people say the signing didn't work out and he's nowhere near good enough. And to be fair, plenty at the time of his signing were somewhat skeptical about him.

This was exactly my thought when we signed him. I remember him scoring lot of freekicks which are poor goalkeeping errors and premier league keepers would be saving it with ease. He is more hit and miss player and was frustrating to watch. He moved to premier league 2 seasons too early. He shown his ability in the Midtyjlland game and he needs a manager who would invest time in him. Don't give number 7 to any player unless they earned it in United shirt.

Looked very promising early doors

Shame how it worked out. Think his attitude has contributed to his downfall more than anything

He clearly has talent.

I can't remember him hitting the target with any of them in a United shirt. Blasted nearly all of them high and wide or in to the wall. No idea why he couldn't at least test goalkeepers here, as pre-United he was clearly a very good striker of the ball. Some of his free kicks for PSV were very well struck, right into the corners. To say it's down to dodgy keepers, as some here are saying, is a bit lazy. Go look at his free kicks for PSV. Some of them are very good.

Lots of big clubs were after him when we signed him. It appeared to be the reason we acted quickly, to fight off Liverpool, Spurs and PSG. How did so many misjudge a player's ability so wildly? I think there is a bit more to it. I think he definitely does have talent, but something has gone wrong for him somewhere. He needs a manager who believes in him. LvG lost faith in him fairly quickly. Mourinho seemingly never had it.

Some people did though.

Indeed, it's one of those footballing myths he had a good WC under LVG (well if he did I didn't witness it as his looked about as average in that tournament as he has done for us imo)

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt though and his first brace in that UCL qualifier looked like I was to be proved wrong but alas that's the only type of opposition he's ever done the business against

Wouldn't be concerned about him going to Everton as I'm sure he'll stink up the place there as well

LVG did not lose faith quickly. He was a first team player up until the turn of the year and was then permanently benched, so he got half a season to prove himself. Unfortunately, he proved that he was very poor.
He consistently did perform well against lower grade teams, but the moment he came up against EPL level defenders, he was stumped. In fact, it was alarming how consistent this was.
To get lots of game time, even when playing badly, he'll need to play in a very poor team. An EPL team fighting relegation would be good for him. Or a team in the Championship. But preferably a move back to PSV would be ideal. He'll live the next 10 years there, as a hero and he has already earned (and saved) big money in the last 1.5 years, so financially he is already sorted.

One thing I am glad is that Memphis himself has had enough of being on the bench, so at least he is showing some ambition. Anderson, for example, was content to pick up wages and not play and I was beginning to think that Memphis was basically the same.

I wish him all the best at his new club. He is still a very young player and he can still make something of himself.

Who'd have him? Clearly his attitude absolutely stinks. He's not proven that he can hack it in England despite being here a while so I'd be surprised if a Premier League club took him. Can only really see him going back to Holland where they at least have memory of him not being a complete waste of space.

Yeah thats it. It must be a mental thing. Either he though "ive arrived" and thus didnt need to do work, or he just couldnt handle it.
Or the Shaw injury totally fecked him up

Funny enough, I think it's the other way round.

You think he has no talent but a great attitude?

Going back to Holland? He will never accept a salary that low when he can easily jump clubs 5 more times and get a big fat paycheck before he really needs to go back to Holland.
I really hope he proves himself at the next club but even though i've always been a huge fan of him, it's starting to feel like he's just not cut out for the top.

Mourinho's recent quotes on offers and in particular the transfer fees are interesting.

Was Moyes and LVG partly to blame for accepting reduced transfer fees and Mourinho is not like them or have the board finally woken up to getting interested parties pay up for players they really want.

Back on topic i find it extraordinary that Memphis' attitude has let him down when he talked as if he had the desire to be the best in the world. Hopefully he can fulfill his potential one day and i would not regret it not happening at United and we let him go but the fact that if he does fulfill his potential it will be enjoyable to watch him play.

Can't remember in the prem a signing of a young player that proved remotely successful since CR or Rooney....Memphis isn't alone as more seem to fail than succeed.

Bloody hope so, everyone does it to us and it works a charm.

to think that I was so excited back then when we got him and now I am so disappointed with his consistent poor performances. really the worst United player same like di fecking maria. please Jose, sell him asap!
