We buy and take punts on young talent when our team is complete and at the level we strive to be, until then we buy proven quality to take us there.

We need proper competetion in the wing area no matter what.

If we continue with a 4-3-3, we have 2 proven quality attackers in Zlatan and Mkhitaryan. Then we have Martial who is a player with world-class potential. I don't think we necessarily need to strenghten with a proven attacker.

When people say Winger do they mean the type that goes wide and mostly just pumps crosses in? As there are very few of those about and other than Bayern top teams don't use them, the fullbacks provide the width and there's 2 wide forwards or inside forwards if you prefer, that play off the striker..

even if we are using that description we still have Ashley young. feck even valencia

Yeah that sums him up... Which is why he keeps on working, keeps on training, and saying he wants to prove himself... He just has a different taste in clothing compared to you, sue him...

"and saying he wants to prove himself " but showing absolutely nothing when he has a chance , face facts he is a big time Charlie who will never make it at United or at any major club

Hasn't he had about 90 minutes of action this season? And did he really look any worse then Rashford and Martial have at certain times this season?

No point in arguing over him he will be gone in January

I'm sure Ed is plotting how to unload the wages of Depay, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Rooney, Fellaini, Young, Januzaj et al

That's more than enough to buy 3 world class players over the next couple of windows.

He's not anywhere near as bad as some here are making him out to be, he needs a long run of games and his confidence back, which he won't get here, so he must leave just to get his career back on track. At PSV whenever I watched him at 21 he was absolutely dominating their attacking play as their star player, and looked ready to make the next step up to a bigger league.

Should keep him till the summer to give him some chances in Europa or cup games . If we sell him in summer or loan him we should put in a lower buy back clause in the contract. He has talent but attitude and hardwork is lacking in him.

with martial and rashford i guess we can afford to let him go.
Both martial and rashford are not wingers. So they are both filling in because Memphis can not step up. Martial ain't a traditional wing player he is a left forward like Neymar or a striker naturally.

You're right. He is even worse.

Who the hell would accept a lower release clause than what they paid for him? He's nowhere near good enough and when he's gone there will be no regret for Manchester United aside from having signed him to begin with.

He is a wide forward. But even though traditional wingers are expected to be rapid players with silky technique, all top top wide-forwards in big clubs nowadays are great technicians with an added bonus of being goal-scorers. Memphis, however, lacks anything needed to be a wide forward

He's just very awkward, has a poor touch, isn't a dribbler & isn't really that pacy. I don't know what he excels at. Not good enough for United. Should be sold.

Anything more than £12million and thats a good bit of buisiness from your end.

There's some nonsense about him not being fast that's going around. He's had a poor touch and dribbling combined with agility of a garbage truck but pace is least of his problems.

I wouldn't say he's slow but I don't think he is fast enough to make up for the deficiencies in the rest of his game. At least if he was a speed merchant he might scare the opposition.

So what you're saying he is dogshite and crap at everything that makes a wide player dangerous, but hey guys, hear me out and let me teach you all a lesson: I just wanted to say you're idiots for saying he's not pacey.

It would be stupid to sell him for 10-15M now, he's still young and he seems to be hardworking. Needs a loan, tho, no point of keeping him on the bench and giving him 5 minutes of gametime every month.

Everyone got so carried away with his highlights on youtube before he came here it was hilarious. I always said he looks average at best and wouldn't do well here. I hope he goes on to have a good career elsewhere but he has never been good enough to play for United.

Fair enough. He could run to the byline if he tried like any of the speed merchants but he has a tendency to cut in and then dwell on the ball which makes him look slow. He believes he's better at cutting in than he actually is.

I didn't call anyone an idiot. He's currently dogshite at many things that are coachable in a young player, some that are not. How he responds to coaching is up to him but he needs to work on his strengths. At United he's only become worse with time. No one thought he was slow at the start of his United career. In terms of pace, which is something you can't really coach, he is brisk.

While I don't think he's slow he looks too bulked up which seems to effect his balance mix that in with a seemingly poor decision making and he'll never get game time here. Think it be best if he left

We know. I've seen you post this at least 3 times already. I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to win some titles in Spain, England, or Germany.

This. I had high hopes but it has been 2 years and he seems to be going backwards. We need to stop this holding on to players for longer than we should. Hope he has a great career but never United level

I've wondered if he could possibly be another Nani who many wrote off at a similar age and only came good vs Arsenal away at an older age. However I think Nani always had that quality about him that Memphis lacks in spades.

I suppose he might have a chance in the Championship.

No chance he starts for Real, Barcelona or Bayern though.

i'm not saying he "deserves" more chances here, i think he's probably had enough. but he's a far better player than he's showed, that much i'm sure of. would have been beneficial to him and perhaps our club if he'd been sent out on loan with the likes of pereira, januzaj, and wilson. because while he's had plenty of chances, almost none of them have come since mourinho's been here.

however at this point in the game, he's a goner. a loan won't be on the cards, a permanent transfer as soon as this january is what i'm expecting.

We loan him to Everton, he's shite there and then we are stuck. Better to sell when we can still recoup a decent fee. He's simply not talented enough to play for us.

People don't know. I have to remind everyone that i'm always right. My predictions are always correct.

He's a waste of space and I'll be glad to see the back of him. His attitude has been appalling ever since he joined us.

Seems a bit unfair, we really know very little about what his attitude has or hasn't been like. He hasn't performed when given chances, but that doesn't necessarily mean he has a bad attitude. I won't care if we sell him though, he'll probably go on to be a decent player but I can't see it working out here.

Another one I had such high hopes for. Looking like the new Jermaine Tennant

Memphis should forget doing neat flicks and fancy footwork. You can do that if you have technique in the league of Messi, CR7, Neymar, Hazard, Sanchez etc.

He should instead try to model his game after Müller. Müller has an above average shot, average pace, solid passing and generally ok technique which would be scheiße in tight spaces.

But yet he's often in discussions regarding best footballers in the world. Why? Because he has intelligence. He has got a mind map of space and time on the field. His movement is economic. Rarely wastes energy but still keeps defenders alert. In terms of attacking contribution, his goals & assists are mostly simple 10-15 yard finishes or passes. Nothing too intricate.

Memphis should try to refresh his approach and be a smarter player than a flashier player

Sigh.. he isn't as bad as some are making out to be, give him a loan to a prem club to get a run of games together and we should see him slowly settle in this league, not all player can do a Martial a Chicharito ect. Remember Ronaldo first season? Remember Vidic and Evra? He just needs game time in the prem which he can get with a loan, it will take a ton of pressure off of him to succeed at United as no one has a bigger fan base than us, and we are a critical bunch of turds. Give it time and we might see the Memphis we all wanted to see.

Should we have done the same with Bebe and Obertan? Not everyone who joins United is destined to become a great player. From what I've seen Depay is more Bebe than Ronaldo.

When we signed him I was ecstatic. Not so much now. I think he has an attitude problem. He will do it an odd game.
