Memphis Depay | Lyon player

Given the status he had, the fee and wages we paid for him, we should look for a permanent move for him.

He's an absolute waste. He's talented for sure, but he just can't do it.

We should try to sell to him to Turkey or even sell him to a team like Sunderland or Crystal Palace that won't rival us.

As soon as we will let him go, that would benefit every part

If Oscar went for 60, surely there's a Chinese Club somewhere offering 30?!

Never seen a player who 'looks' like he has the attributes for this league be so shit in it. Every time i see him on the pitch I dont feel like he is doing his all.

He's rubbish, simple as. Players like Rashford and Martial, who even though are out of form, you can see their ability and promise, I don't see any of that with Depay. Didn't rate him before he joined us and still don't rate him.

Just shows how shit the Dutch league is that this guy was their top scorer. Jesus

I think he meant greedy prick on the pitch. ie, wanting to do everything himself rather than pass to teammates.

Could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted that, because he says "and opted for big pay days."
I worded it really poorly; the 'opted for big pay day' was edited in, but you're interpretation was correct.

Also, to the original poster, I really wouldn't signify the amount of caps for Brazil when attempting to judge the quality of a player. That national team has been a bit of a joke for the past decade.

Had you watched much of him before he joined?

Memphis could come off the bench and score a 5 minute hat-trick and people would say he's shite on this forum. He clearly has some degree of talent that ourselves, Liverpool, PSG etc were all after him.

It hasn't worked out for him here, but wouldn't be surprised if he goes elsewhere and does well.

Memphis showed against Midt-Jylland how good he can be. But since he is nowhere near that Level in 19 out of 20 games, we have to let him go.

If we can get £35-40 million for him and Schneiderlin combined - of course we have to sell him. That together with probably £7-8 million a year in wages makes it impossible to keep them when they are not in the managers plans.

He played in Holland, hardly a valid level to judge a player's ability. What exactly does Memphis excel at? He's not very quick, his finishing is erratic, his dribbling isn't very good, his crossing isn't very good. He's so predictable in his play, he gets the ball wide, cuts in and takes a shot. Also looks like he has too much muscle.

If he did that I would acknowledge it, unfortunately he'll be lucky to get a hat-trick of games for us this season, let alone a hat-trick of goals. Has struggled against any decent side we've played against.

Think he will do well but I don't think he's anything special. Bang average footballer imo. Unfortunately not every team we play is as poor as Midgetland.

Arsenal 2nd half of the season.

It's like lysglimt is saying. He actually has talent, and can play well but isn't consistent. You can think he's shit, but I'm 100% sure that he'll prove you wrong in the following years.

I have always wanted to see him get a prolonged chance under Mourinho but he looks like he's set to go and it is probably the right decision. He is definitely not shit - as many people keep saying - but I think he underestimated the PL, probably came to us too soon and also is unlucky that Martial has such a good first season as he became backup.

Would like to see him in another league doing well - think he's a bit of a Quaresma type player. Supposedly great potential but will never get close to being what he had hoped.

He doesn't really have Quaresma's technique though.

He tries too hard now when he gets a chance which affects his future chances but what else can he do? If he's only got 10minutes to impress, he's going to try stuff that is hard to pull off and it isn't happening for him at the moment.

At the start of last season, he had a few good games and then started to lose confidence and form and he hasn't got it back since apart from the EL game against Mijdytiland (sp?). I still have faith he can be a good player but I doubt it's going to be here, there's too much competition and we still have Pereira, Januzaj and probably new signings to rival him.

A loan move would be a decent option, providing he plays for 6months, and let's see what he can do with a regular run of games.

We shouldn't look to sell him but loan him out to give us an option to recall him should be turn things around. He is a young player, you never know what a little confidence and game time could do for him.

He can't dribble, he can't cross, everything he does is average. We're better off without him and he'll better of at Everton

Quaresma actually had skill. The only thing Memphis has is decent pace, and even that's gone missing, he can't beat people anymore. His regression, if you genuinely believe he had talent, is even worse than Januzaj. If we only remember the good parts of a player's career and never let it go, no wonder people still have faith in the likes of Darmian, who looked unbeatable in his first month or two with us but has since been found out.

Mickey struggled with the pace of the league in the beginning, but still showed glimpses of his talent, and Jose recognized that and treated him accordingly. The fact that he has all but given up on Memphis should be proof that he is not good enough. Lingard, and probably Adnan and Pereira are all ahead of him and deservedly so.

Seeing him in the crowd at the Joshua fight last Saturday night just about summed him up desperate to make sure he was noticed in his gold embroidered matador jacket and sparkly hat .He looked every inch the attention grabbing little boy who obviously cares more about the mega ££££££ contract he signed than playing football .
He will never get the opportunity to play for one of the top teams in the world again I wouldn't think he cares one jot .
When you make young guys Multi millionaires over night it iS bound to go right to the head of some of them and he is a classic example of all that is wrong with football .Ridiculous , obscene wages has created monsters

He has the body, but his mental attributes are terrible. His decision making is so poor, and it seems like he always gets caught in two minds when he's on the ball. I'd loan him out for a season before moving him off. I know everyone worries about recouping transfer fees, but that doesn't really matter for a club like ours. We would be getting a fraction of the cost back anyways. Missing out on a high potential player because we weren't patient enough with him sounds far more wasteful to me.

I agree. It seems a bit odd for the manager to be writing him off so quickly, when he is still young.

Mourinho must see something he really doesn't like or want to work with in both him and Schneiderlin for them to barely even get a sniff. Guys like Rojo, Mata, Herrera, Mkhi have been given opportunities to impress when it wasn't certain they'd be favoured under Mourinho. Memphis, Schneiderlin, and also Schweinsteiger have had an immediate decision made on them, that they've just got no chance. I trust Mourinho has got it right, he obviously knows more about judging players than any of us here, but it seems a little bizarre.

It's a shame. I still think there is something about Memphis. I don't know what it is exactly, but I do think he will be a good player. Impossible to tell whether he will ever be good enough for us, but it seems weird to just give up on a after only 1 full season here. He showed enough to get games for the national team, and to have United, Liverpool, Spurs, PSG take notice and try to get him. But then even LvG, the man who picked him for the NT and also brought him here, gave up on him pretty much. I think he does have talent, but perhaps doesn't have the guts and the mentality to back it up.

As for Schneiderlin, I was convinced he was one of the missing pieces when we got him. I was also annoyed at the thought of him going to Arsenal, because he looked to be everything they needed too. At Southampton, he looked to have everything we needed in a combative midfielder. Doesn't quite have the passing range Carrick has, but he's still a decent passer. He also does the stuff that guys like Carrick and Rio made look easy, the way they would be in the right place and just step in to the path of the ball to intercept. He did that a lot at Southampton, and they were so tough to break down because he was just always there. Good tackler, good positional discipline, strong from defensive set pieces. He made a decent start here, but fizzled out and looked to be a shell of the player he was. Now we've not seen him since.

Yep, a loan would be more preferable for me, but then again I wouldn't cry if we sold him either. If he doesn't demonstrate the aptitude for improvement under multiple managers, especially top managers like LvG and Mourinho, then he is highly unlikely to do it elsewhere. Ultimately we may just want to get his salary off the books to make way for round of new players next summer.

I think Turkey is a great idea. At Gala or Fener he would be a star and get to establish himself as an international again. Then maybe he will get bought by an Everton or a Valencia in a couple of seasons

I wish him luck in the future and hope he fulfils his talent. I just dont mind if it is elsewhere. I dont think he is a United player.

Hope Mourinho has found a replacement winger to come in January

Memphis ruined all his chances of making it here when he decided to take a full time job as a bodybuilder and a part time job as a footballer.

We will probably replace him with Leon Bailey

Enough of these punts, Targaryan and Pogboom has shown us the way forward, buy from the upper echelon and prosper. The money is there, and we are not in the position we were under Fergie when we could take exotic punts and still be competitive.

Manchester United forward Memphis Depay close to Everton transfer
Memphis Depay could become the second Man Utd player to complete an Everton move in the transfer window.

Mourinho revealed he omitted five fit players from the trip to Zorya Luhansk last week to 'protect' them and the likelihood is he does not want to risk injury to Memphis and Schneiderlin out of fear it could jeopardise a new year move to Goodison Park.

That's a weird one. Should have played them and try to keep/maintain their fitness and performances to drive the value up.

Yeah that sums him up... Which is why he keeps on working, keeps on training, and saying he wants to prove himself... He just has a different taste in clothing compared to you, sue him...

Doubt playing one game would drive up the value much. Plus he needed a result and doesn't seem to trust either of them anyway

Mourinho wanted him at Chelsea too. Should we stop buying young talent?

We buy and take punts on young talent when our team is complete and at the level we strive to be, until then we buy proven quality to take us there.
