That moment vs Leicester where we cleared their corner to the half way line and Amad chased after it, leaped up to win a header that he had no right to win, and then carried the ball into the final third. I was off my seat applauding it as if it was some genius piece of forward play, when in reality Amad was demonstrating the basics of attacking that we've been deprived of for the past few years from Rashford and co.

Aside from our backline, he and Mount represent the only players aged between 23 and 29 in the squad, which should be the prime years. Ugarte might be 23 too, so add him if he is. This highlights the problem with our team, with our players being too young or too old. We have no top class players playing in their prime years, and the few we have, we are getting a shocking return on, back 5 excluded. Rashford and Mount are both already ‘former internationals’ by their mid-twenties, and are paid obscenely.

A 27 year old forward who has been largely uninjured has no excuse at all for delivering what Rashford has delivered weekly for a top club for quite some time now. Must be shipped off.

There were numerous examples last season of him walking around on the pitch, not bothering to track back, not bothering to make any runs in behind, the whole getting pissed in Belfast and missing training thing. He was unprofessional and I was hopeful that was why he was so bad on the pitch.

This seasons he's knuckled down and I think he's trying harder, we've not had any unprofessional off the field moments.

And yet he's still been rubbish. He's scored 4 PL goals in 2024, 3 from open play. It's a pitiful return for one of the highest earners at the club. Whatever spark he had seems to have gone.

I've been a big backer of Marcus, I was convinced he'd have a big season after missing out on the Euros. I just felt it was the kick up the arse he needed. Seems like there is more going on with him than meets the eye though, he looks shot to me. He's got half a season to rescue his Manchester United career, if he carries on in the same vain I doubt Amorim will waste his time on him.

Also what else is really bad, England have had 8 first team players pull out and Marcus has been overlooked. He'd literally fallen that far he's best totally forgot about.

Always hate when fans give players constant "his head's not in it" excuses, or to say "we need to back him so he returns to top form". Because an actual top player will rarely ever let some random online cnut dictate how he performs, the very best are able to block out the noise and just succeed. If it's a family tragedy or some special circumstance then absolutely fair enough, but I don't think you should get leeway as a player just because a few fans are upset at you playing shit and it made you sad, especially not if you're a full fledged international.

Once that purple patch ended he's regressed to the mean of what he is as a player now and it's not pretty.

He seems to have no passion for the game. He really looks as if he has lost his love for the game.

Seeing our fans do this actually amazes me, considering what we have seen from Rashford for quite some time now.

Been a big Rashford defender but it does feel like his last chance now with Amorim to salvage his career at United and goodwill with the fanbase. Unfortunately I think he’s mentally shot and doesn’t care much about salvaging anything at this point. But it’s just not good enough performance wise and I can’t see him turning it around. Hope I’m wrong. He generally neither over-performs nor underperforms his xG. The big difference in the seasons he doesn't score many goals is in the amount of xG he can generate. In both those seasons, the team worked very hard to set him up in front of goal, and he did well, cutting inside from the left. Probably because he's a finisher who just wants to start on the left wing. When he's being asked to hug the touchline, operate as a real winger and fend for himself, that's when it looks to go awry. Whether he's worth the sacrifices his "preferred" role demands of the team or not, that's for the manager to decide. Let's see if third time's (interims not included) a charm.

Ultimately, regardless of the root cause, a player needs to deliver. As you said, in the most extreme of circumstances, there may be mitigation - however, mitigation or not, the reality is the club needs performances from a regular player otherwise they will look for a player who can provide that. Players have ups and downs, but unless something changes very quickly - Rashford’s down spell has gone on for longer than we can reasonably accommodate.

In 2022-23 he had a good pre-season then scored just 3 goals in the first 14 league games. That’s a strike rate which would give him 8 goals in a league campaign. Less than Hojlund last season.

He’s currently on 1 from 11, so far this season, so if he scores 2 in the next 3 then his league productivity so far will exactly match his best ever season. He’s just an incredibly inconsistent and streaky footballer. And that has nothing to do with tactics or his role in the team, because we’ve seen the same thing under multiple managers, over multiple seasons. Including extreme hot and cold spells within a month or two or each other.

He is streaky, i am not doubting that. I mentioned that his xG matches his productivity, whether he scores 17 or 5 goals in a single season. It might be a coincidence, but his most prolific seasons came when United didn't play with a classic #9 in the box and the team was working for him to get these finishes in the box.
