Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

Do you even know what my views are on Blind, Vermaelen or this guy? I'm sorry for not getting my knickers in a twist while we beat Southampton to a left back, the last time that happened we ended up with Buttner (Rojo is obviously better than Buttner, having just played in the world cup final). He could turn out to be a good player, he may not (I have only seen him at the world cup and he was okay), but that doesn't change the fact his signing doesn't exactly set the pulses racing. Like many of our signings. So, I don't understand the tone of your post. I said this was a bit of a meh signing, and that is exactly what it will be. Whether it will turn out to be successful or not, only time will tell.

So you're not sure if he'll be a good player, but your issue is "it doesnt set the pulses raising".

FFS.

So apart from the one post on this thread from a Sporting fan saying he would be good enough, I'd like to see a link to where your friends said he wasn't.

If that's ok? I mean people talk on the internet, shoudn't be hard to link.

Like i said he probably talked to them a while ago. Any Sporting fan would rate him and want him for our Champions League campaign after last year. Last season he gave a big leap in terms of evolution in relation to previous years. He was much better than Mangala last year for example. He still has to improve some aspects though. I believe Van Gaal can help on that.

Don't really think he's worth €20m and would hope we'd have been in for someone better if it's for a starting position. He'll really need to step up in terms of consistency & sort his concentration lapses if he is to be a regular for us. The potential is evidently there though and LvG will be a good manager for him at this stage. Certainly rather him than Blind, much more room to improve.

Well we will see what he posts in response. He has spoke to numerous Sporting Fan friends who have all said he's not good enough for us (despite two sporting fans here saying he's decent now) and he also thought he had a poor world cup despite numerous others saying he played very well.

So the only fan who has seen him regularly says he's pretty good whilst the rest of us who might not have heard his name before WC say he's not good enough.

Don't know whose opinion to trust tbh.

Cmon he was in the World Cup team of the tounament and got big praise from one of the best defensive managers in the World, Diego Simeone. It´s a matter of opinions but i think he had a good World Cup.

Ill take him over Blind any day.
This.

I was impressed by Rojo in the World Cup, he looks an exciting player. From what I've heard he's definitely far from the finished article but it'd be exciting to see how he does.

Some of you need to realise that van Gaal doesn't give two shits about how excited a signing makes you. I'd take him with his needs-must approach over Moyes and his attempts to show how big time he is any day.

No no, don't you understand @LonelyFire watched him at the world Cup thought he was a liability and spoke to Sporting fans on the internet who've all said he's not good enough for us (which he will link us to any second). He's clearly not good enough it doesn't matter if you've actually watched him play football. People here can have their views withot ever watching someone play and that is fair enough.

Understand the difference between commenting and complaining. And stop picking a fight where one doesn't exist.

Are you honestly saying you're not complaining. "Meh" clearly means average in the context you have used. If you think he might be a good player but are upset becase he's not a big name signing reevaluate everything.

I legitimately think a large number.of fans care more what the team looks like on paper than how it actually functions on the pitch as a unit.

Blind would play CM and cover leftback.

Rojo would play CB and cover leftback.

As for Rojo I think the concentration lapses and discipline problems Sly mentioned are concerning. On the other hand he's athletic and stronger than our other CBs and I felt that strength was probably the main area they could use some help with after losing Vidic. We'd just have to wait and see how he does

All I know is that we desperately need defensive reinforcements and van Gaal is very particular about who he selects to play in his system. Putting those two things together, I'll take this signing happily if it happens.

How confident is everyone that this is even on? That bid looks quite generous, if it was rejected then we might leave it.

Im sorry I do not agree with this - we shop in a different market compared to Sporting so its natural they will have some players that are not of the calibre capable of playing for Utd.

I remember when we bought a player from Sporting a few years ago. A pacy winger who was a little rough around the edges but had loads of potential. And do you remember who that young Sporting player was?
The Great Luis Nani.

Seems to fit the requirements - young, left footed CB, tall (189-190), room for improvement, not very expensive if the reported fees are true (9-10 million and 6-7 million in future instalments). Does not have much experience but LvG said multiple times that he will not hesitate with starting young players if they possess quality and determination.

He was basically playing completely out of position at the World Cup, he isn't a left back and particularly not a wing back. Thought he looked decent though, having seen a few pundits question his selection. As a left sided centre half he'd be a decent signing IMO. We can rest assured the scouting team have watched him extensively as they spent so long with Carvalho.

I don't think he's an alternative for Blind at all either. Blind is a DM that would cover at left back and only drop back in an injury crisis, Rojo is a centre half and probably wouldn't play anywhere else.

I think we should've gone for Lovren. We might've been aiming a bit higher to begin with but he's a good age, experienced in the league and would've been genuinely gettable.

We are getting a player a week before the start of the season, a few days after Vermaelen has gone to Barcelona quite clearly indicating he was second choice to him. So indeed he is a bit of meh signing because Vermaelen isn't all that himself. That doesn't mean he can't turn out to be a good player for us, but sorry for not getting excited on every signing that the club makes.

I don't need to sit here and link posts to justify to you. Its an opinion - you don't share it so we move on. Get a life pal.

When "O Jogo" starts reporting it then i believe there are negotiations in progress. Most of those Garay and Gaitan rumours came from "A Bola". I think we will do a deal sooner or later. Two or three millions more will be enough for closure.

What would the English equivelant newspapers be for the two?

I guess he will only be a good signing if we also buy Vidal lol

Blind is not a CB.

This guy is.

I only watched him play for Argentina at the WC and he played as a left back. Does not strike me as having the qualities needed for a CB either. Blind is capable of playing as LWB and in the middle so I would rather have him.

Really? How come one was being whored around and the other wasn't?

It's not justifying anything. I mean sure posting links to your friends who've said hes not good enough for us would save you looking like a complete liar throwing his toys out of the pram because we aren't signing your favorite FIFA player, but it'd also help those of us who have rarely seen him form an opinion on him. Copying and pasting isn't that hard is it?

Mangala was already super hyped up. For some reason he didnt lose that hype despite looking dodgy

Perhaps the more interesting part is Garay who looked a lot better than Mangala, was integral to Benfica's success in europe last season and left for cheap this summer. We didnt go back for him, a left footed CB

Didn't really pay much attention to him at the WC, but according to Castarol Index, he was in the team of the tournament.

The signing would certainly make sense anyway, as he can play centre back, left wing back and left back, if/when we revert back to four at the back. Don't think he'd be too pricey neither.

Of course they do - but they also have plenty who don't. Im simply saying I believe Rojo falls into the latter bracket. Its only my opinion based on what I've seen and taken on board what a few sporting fans have said to me regarding him.
I'd love to know what Sporting fans you know in Scotland?

How official is it that we've bid for Rojo?

Manchester United website official?
BBC official?
SSN / Broadsheets official?
Or Daily Star / Chilean media official?

If LvG is adamant that the central defender on the left of the defence needs to be left footed then options are limited. The likes of Vertonghen and Chiellini are really unlikely/far too expensive. Vermaelen was always unlikely with Wenger making ridiculous demands. Makes sense to go for a decent young player who has potential, and who can also fill in at LB/LWB. I'd prefer to splash out on Benatia, as I don't really see the huge importance for the player to be left footed in this particular position, but hey van Gaal knows best.

Wasn't overly impressed by Rojo at the WC but he wasn't terrible by any means. I'll trust LvG on this one, supposing it goes ahead.

Lovren would be more suited to playing center of the 3 from what i've seen of him so far. Isn't the quickest and doesn't particularly like being pulled out wide which is what we need in a LCB.

It's pretty safe to say there's something in it, it's front page news on both O Jogo & Record.
