Marco Verratti

Messi is a bloody hard player to tackle without fouling. Verratti did it thrice yesterday.

The middle one is a brilliant tackle. I love how he comes out of nowhere and throws himself in, it looked like it was going to be a foul and potentially a penalty.

Excellent gif-age Snow. He's a brilliant player.

I'm just passing on the interesting bits. Twas a decent highlight game. I guess people only want to talk about Messi.

Should be our no1 target, having a player like him is priceless. He doesn't seem to have the same belief in his passing as he used to, but I'm sure that'll be back soon.

With Marquinhos he's Paris diamond. It will take a lot lot lot lot lot of money to lure him out of Paris, before he wants to leave for Juve.

Love this player, he's about the most perfect midfielder we could find.

Against Barca, in the Nou Camp, he played the same relaxed way as he does in the Ligue 1. This player has ice running through his veins, unbelievable talent.

His ability to hold and dribble his way out in tight/dangerous spaces is ridiculous. As cold blooded as you can get. He should be more adventurous with his passing, because he's definitely got the vision and ability.

It wasn't always like that. When he came to PSG he could be a bit of a liability at times losing the ball while dribbling in his own half. He'd get alot of stick for it from people, including his teammates. But he stuck by it, improved and nowadays it comes off for him alot more often than not. It takes balls and determination to reach the top and Verratti looks well on his way.

Is this guy the best CM in the world right now? Vidal hasn't been as good in a while, Yaya ditto.

The things this guy is doing against Guingamp are insane

Honestly can't think of many midfielders better than him. If he gets more consistency in his passing, then he won't only be the best in the world, but he'll be one of the best ever. Outrageous talent.

i think people go a bit overboard at the moment with Verratti. He is a great talent no doubt, but could become best ever and someone earlier asked best CM at the moment, i think thats easier said than done. There are still some players better than him and to become one of the best ever Cms, you need more than just talent and playing well in Ligue 1 and the occasional CL game.

He's already one of the best mids in the game today, I'm sure you couldn't name 5 midfielders better than him. With him its a matter of ability, he has it in his locker to become an all time great. He's also seemingly getting better by the season.

Modric, Kroos, Fabregas, Schweinsteiger, Toure. You could argue with Pogba, Vidal, Iniesta, Rakitic. While Rakitic isnt as talented, he was one of the best last year and carried Sevilla single handedly. Even Matuidi showed more consistency over a period of time and outperformed him last year. It goes fast in football, look at Gündogan or Thiago.

Edit: Forgot Koke and Pjanic too

Dissagree with a whole host of those. Clearly you're not one of those who rate him all that highly. Dissagree with Fabregas and Kroos on the first list. Toure isn't on that level anymore, he'd need to show form he hasn't shown in some time for this to be true. Maybe Pogba but not iniesta and rakitic. Matuidi imo has never been on his level let alone outperform him. Koke doesn't even play in midfield, and pjanic hasn't pulled up any trees against quality opposition.

You say time moves quickly in football and fashion out a timezone of names with some really off form players in the mix. Using players who are suffering from long term injuries as some sort of evidence to anything is rubbish. Football will always have that as a mitigating factor.

There is just no chance that he is currently superior to Kroos or Fabregas. They are two of the best in the game who have played and won and the highest level (higher than ligue 1) for several years. Verratti is talented and improving but he is not at that level

Imo he is. He's able to play well in all types of conditions, conditions that both kroos and Fabregas struggle in. He's also one of the best in that game that should be obvious by now. Just cause he plays in ligue doesn't change that.

Kroos and Modric, yes but the rest not even close. Verratti do not disappear in games like Touré and Fabregas while Schweinsteiger is coming back from injuries.

For Pjanic and Koke, Pjanic is useless defensively but exceptional going forward and Koke, if you are honest you have rarely saw him in CM position, i have seen him a couple of times he seems to be a top top player there, but we don't really know since he barely plays the position.

Edit: Thiago Motta is better

Modric probably has to be the best in the world. I'd say Kroos and Schweinsteiger would follow, though the latter seems to have declined due to a culmination of injuries. Verratti would fall somewhere in the middle/towards the end of the next bunch.

Jesus. Currently Kroos and Fabregas are definitely better than him, that shouldn't even be a debate. Last season Pogba was better as well. Koke does play in midfield, whether it's wide or centrally doesn't really matter, he gives the team more than Verratti does. Ramsey was better last season, too. Thiago, Javi Martinez and Schweinsteiger despite their injuries are still better players than him. Modric and Gabi have been better than him as well.

Last season Pogba was average and inconsistent for half the season, well Verratti too.:)

But we shouldn't compare midfielders who are that different Fabregas or Pjanic does thing that Verratti doesn't and vice versa.

I don't even like Pogba, but he really wasn't inconsistent and he definitely wasn't average for his age last season. The rest I can agree with. Still, it was about the general level of those midfield players and Verratti doesn't belong on that list yet. He may be in top 5 for most talented midfield players though.

He was and his age shouldn't be a defense, the thing with Pogba is that he will always do something special even when his overall game is poor, and people seem to only care about that.

And for the midfielders Verratti belongs on the list for a simple reason you play with at least 2 midfielders, and there is a lot of combination possible where Verratti is a better option than Fabregas or Pjanic.

He is in the top 15 which means that he could play for any of the best 5 teams in europe.

I'd love to see us interested in him but I think his size (despite being only an inch shorter than Scholes) and the fact he's not Strootman will go against him with LvG.

That's his only negative point, it's not that he hacks his opponents, most of those cards have come after endless arguments with referees. They all know about him now and he hasn't tried to change.

He has scored just 2 goals for PSG in this 2 1/2 season (Both this season). A player of his quality should score at least 6-7 goals per season imo.
Id say thats about Tiote stats X 2.

Not sure Ive ever seen numbers like that and Im a big fan of yellow card betting!

I remember Nadal years ago with Barca getting a shed load of them but I doubt anyone can match the above in the modern era.
Yeah Tiote has 23 yellow cards and 1 sent-off in the last 2 1/2 season. Verratti has played of course more matches in this period.

But if Verratti doesn't change that then he'll surpass even Cattermole stats of 88 yellow cards and 7 sent-offs (9 1/2 seasons) in the next years.

Btw the PL record is 99 yellow cards for Bowyer and Kevin Davies.
