Marco Verratti

Callejon isn't all that, he'll have to fight for his place, and Reina is only a loan, besides I don't think he's that good anymore which is why Liverpool are trying to get rid. They've gone for Madrid rejects and a player who's unwanted at Liverpool, I prefer how Dortmund used their Götze money to replace him with Aubameyang (one of the best forwards in France and a potential Lewandowski replacement) and Mkhitaryan (very highly rated and young).

Think it's cos he's unsettled. The article is certainly suggesting that they are struggling to get him to sign a new contract.

If we don't try that while faffing about with pipedreams I'll be disappointed. Get him and maybe a decent AN Other and we are flying.

Would be a fantastic signing for whichever club manages to get him. He's already brilliant, and he's just 20. Even if he doesn't develop further, which he will, he'll still walk into most teams in the world, he's that good. He has all the potential to be talked about in the same breath as Xavi and Pirlo in the future, he's that good.

Nah apparently it's just rumours leaked by his camp in an attempt to get an improved contract. No one truly believes he's going to leave. I'd cool down the talks about him being as good as Xavi and Pirlo, but yeah he's a very good player.

Indeed, all lead by a very greedy agent.

Or a player who thinks he's worth a bit more given the money some of his team mates will be on.

Fair play to the kid, he's performed so why not try and get a pay rise?

Because it's only been one season, I find it a bit too much to ask for an immediate pay rise after one season. The PSG directors aren't fools, they know Verrati creates interest from other clubs, they will have given him the pay rise (improved contract) anyway.

You might feel differently if you were him. These lads have short careers, some too short so its only sensible to try and get what you can while your stock is high. I have no problem with players who are doing the business wanting to get what they're worth - because the clubs make plenty of the backs of the players and are quick to try and shaft them when they're not needed any more.

That's the thing though, how does one player judge how much he's really worth in terms of wages ? Where is his limit ?
he might use his teammates as a point of reference or the wages offered to him by other clubs. Basically it s a free market out there

Allegedly handed in a transfer request. I'm sure Moyes won't want someone who isn't "Premier League proven" though so we won't even bother. :(

And it'll be another good player that we'll have overlooked. Not having a go at Moyes here either - the midfield issue has been a joke for a long time.

Apparently the dispute boils down to him wanting 3-4M euros a year. Is that net or gross? 70K a year doesn't look like something PSG should be playing hardball over. In a World Cup year, I wonder what would be more attractive: week-in-week out Serie A at Juve but not necessarily playing, or starting for United in another league. The former is reminiscent of Thiago being behind Xavi in the Spain pecking order.

Is there any semi-reliable source reporting this? All I've seen is a goal.com article and a load of Twitter bollocks.

There's also a Liverpool forum posting the news and with everyone on there convinced he has done it because he wants to go join Benítez at Napoli. :wenger:

My muppet signing. I think he would be perfect for us. He's gonna develop into a world class player.

He's no Fabregas but he's a step to the right direction. Players like Verratti, Gundogan, Erikkson and Ander Herrera are gettable players which will improve us

I've forgot about Herrera. The hypemachine hasn't been at work this season as much as the last.

Gundogan's unattainable and Eriksson won't improve us plus he's not a midfielder.

Yes everyone who performs well for one year should get a huge pay rise. Absolutely fair play to him! He has huge potential. He is 20 years old. He has loads of time to earn money. He has to be consistent first and prove himself on the pitch.

I don't think 3M a year is an outlandish demand when his club have been chucking money around for fun

What if he gets hurt tomorrow and never plays again? If he can agree on a wage with his club, good for him.

Seems to be a lot of stories about this guy today, Fiorentina want him back apparently.

Isn't the window closed now though

Manchester United could miss out on 20-year-old target Marco Verratti, as Fiorentina have expressed a desire to return for him.
The young Italian, who is being followed closely by both United and Real Madrid, has been pin-pointed by Fiorentina as a player of definite interest, and the Italian side are desperate for his services.
Verratti currently plays for French champions PSG, where he recently signed a new contract this summer, but is being lauded as being a sensational player for the future and has already been capped for the Italian national team.
It has been revealed thatFiorentina almost signed him in the summer, ahead of United, but he opted to extend his stay at PSG instead.
However it has done little to cull the interest of the Serie A outfit, who have expressed a desire to continue with their efforts at purchasing him.
"Verratti? He is a player who wants to play in Florence and our club like him a lot. If Fiorentina continue to grow, another dream will come true," Fiorentina's technical director, Eduardo Macia, stated.
It's unsure whether or not a bid will be tabled in January or whether Fiorentina will wait until next summer, but United could lose out on another player if they fail to act themselves.

Imagine this place if we ever let Verratti go to Fiorentina without making a move to sign him...

Verratti has done really, really well when I have seen him play. I know competition is pretty fierce at PSG and Matuidi had a very good season, but he really ought to be getting chances there.

Messi is a bloody hard player to tackle without fouling. Verratti did it thrice yesterday.

One of my favourite players to watch. His self-belief is ridiculous.

Excellent little player. I stress the little.
