Ugarte is not enough. We need 2 players .. We cant go into the season with 3 players for 2 positions

I wonder if we’re trying to shift some wages before getting Rabiot in as well. Must be a reason he hasn’t signed for anyone yet

Erik has already proven that even with players under his belt (to the tune of 600+ million) there's still not a drastic difference in the teams output for performances.

Ugarte sures up the midfield but it's certainly not a situation where he changes the dynamics drastically.

It’s definitely not enough, probably as much as we are going to get though. Likely will be another season of struggling in midfield.

His energy alone will be important as all of our current players were gassed after 70 mins today. He won't be enough though, we need to make sure we limit Casemiro's game time as much as possible this season.

PSG have our number on this, we have players too old and a young player that can't last and needs help. it's a 3 man midfield game and we're flogging away with one or non for years now.

Scholes was right on the overlap, we need a midfielder who controls the pace of games with intelligent play. Ugarte helps defensively but we also need another different midfield profile desperately.

It's definitely not enough.

But then nobody ever promised we'd come out of this transfer window with "enough". It's not for nothing our new owners have openly said it will be three years before we're competing with the best sides again, and that's if all goes well. There's a long way of not being good enough to go.

Next step is securing Ugarte if he's who we want, because watching the exhausted Casemiro at the end of today's came sure as shit highlighted why Ugarte would help.

Suspect this guys price has gone up a bit. Just the kind of player we needed today in that final spell. Not a one man army who can do it all, just a decent option so we can respond to games as they evolve.

This is true, but the reality is that Ten Hag doesn't seem to want to control games, it is all press, transition, repeat.

Stop fecking haggling over £6-7m and get him the feck in. Can’t watch another 90 mins of a “resurgent” Casemeiro.

Would love to look into Andre from Fluminense if we do get 30m for McTom. He's been linked with us and that's apparently his asking price too

Looks like a better version of Bruno Guimares

Hopefully the penny drops after today and we realize that we need a controller in the midfield of the park rather than an all-action ball chaser.

Yeah, we need a player who controls the tempo and shows up for the ball from central defenders.

Our manager spent too much time focussing on right backs and multiple CBs when central midfield was the key issue. We’ve signed none and we have what, a week left in the window?

My feeling is that it doesnt matter who we sign, the manager isnt motivating the players he has to be the best they can be.

Disagree with those wanting a controller type midfielder. First half shows that we are more than capable of controlling games with Mainoo’s and the centre backs skill set. The problem came as soon as Case and Kobbie’s intensity dropped. Ugartes legs are needed desperately

Are you not watching these guys press their butts off? EtH has never had issues with motivation on a wide scale.
Ten Hag is the first manager since Ferguson's retirement to actually retain the faith of the players during a sustained period of bad performances. There were clear points during the tenure of Moyes, LVG, Mourinho and Solksjaer when our players clearly gave up.

Even at our worst last season, there was no lack of effort on the pitch. It's a definite positive of Ten Hags that he can keep his players on his side. But eventually even that will stop if the results don't come.

Probably only positive thing from today's loss is that we'll surely sign Ugarte now? I'd say even a striker if we manage to sell Sancho but that most probably won't happen. People suggesting we might need another midfielder but don't think that'll happen this summer.

DM - Ugarte, Casemiro
CM - Mainoo, Eriksen/Rabiot
CAM - Bruno, Mount

These are probably our midfield options come September.

In the short term, this may well be.

But we're not just recruiting for Ten Hag, we're also recruiting for the manager who succeeds him if/when push comes to shove. So the signings still matter.

Very much need his profile in the XI

The midfield is far too easy to slice through as constructed
Yeah I was thinking this. Happened all last season and we have seen it happen again in each the opening 3 matches. I’m including the city one.

In a game that open Ugarte would have got us another good chance or two. He’s not going to control the game but he’s not going to let the opposition control it either which Brighton did for periods where we couldn’t really get near it. I think he compliments what we have very well. We also need extra legs and aggression in there

No one can squabble on the €60m fee after that 2nd half. We need him in vs Liverpool

Get him. Casemiro has no legs left.
If we rely on Casemiro this season again we will be fecked.

Just give PSG what they want, get it done.

Glazer-esque kneejerk reactions

Yeah lets pay whatever they want because of one bad result at the start of the season

He's proven lack of effort won't be his undoing. We might lose, but not because of that.
