Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Totally agree with this.

Mourinho is done here and has to go. But the Glazers and Woodward are the real issue here. They're useless parasites.
That is unarguably true, imo. What was the reaction in the stadium today btw?

100% fact what? Judging players ability is Ed's job now?
Do you really think Toby wont help our defense?
People were moaning a few years ago that he was paying over the odds for players. There were even memes going around on here of him overpaying in a pet shop. Now it's not his job to judge how much we should spend on a player but just hand over whatever Levy wants even if that includes one of our rising young tallents.

Think we're the only fan base that the CEO fails to do his job in the market and will still find some to defend him anyway.

Got this from a mate:

Mate from uni is a big Burnley fan, season ticket holder & he said they were really poor today, also they had a minute silence before kick off for a former player & all you could hear was the engine from that fecking plane flying the banner. Embarrassing.
It was known over a week in advance that there was going to be a minute's silence today. Disgraceful stuff.

Disgrace, bunch of clowns.

There were 4 names as alternative. Doesn't sound like doing well negotiate with any, yet briefed that would be more than happy to pay 100mil for Varane. The point is Wood ward has precedence in mind boggling contract renewal, paying ridiculous price, missing acquireable targets, talking about spending prowess on unacquireable targets (what is the point?) pre Mourinho.
Did you see the alternatives? All prices just as ridiculous, or players who patently weren't good enough.

Then we have some fans blaming him for sanctioning the signings of players who didn't work out here. Doomed if you do, doomed if you don't.

If you are actively trying to sell a player you don't price him out of the market. How many of the players that Spurs were actively trying to sell did they actually manage to sell?
Well there was only Alderweireld and two crocks (Rose/Dembele). How do you explain the endless briefings before and towards the end of the window of those exact three players being available for sale?

I think everyone was taken aback by the slowness of the market this year, Tottenham probably factored in further inflation and marked up way too high at the start as you say.

Having said that, the prices banded about for Alderweireld were well within our reach - £40-50m - and even at £70m for what he is and what our defence is he'd have been worth it.

At the very least protests against Woodward encourage him to correct this in January.

You give a manager an extension, he gets us back into the CL, wins two trophies and finishes second, then you dont back him whilst seemingly thinking you know more than him. feck Woodward.

This every day of the week!

You can replace the names with any team/manager/ceo

The above quote will always stand

Woodward was wrong about Alderweireld but I'd back him vetoing Willian who would be absolutely useless.

And there lies the problem with our club. No one person is entirely culpable. Manager, Ed and Players -- they can all do better.

So who brought Alderweireld? Surely he ended up somewhere considering he was such a bargain.

Which is exactly what people said against Woodward here. He decided that Alderweilerd isnt good enough for United. Isnt that irony in your point?

You don’t know that do you? Most likely, the price quoted was too much. We have a budget, not just for this season but for the next 5. If Spurs has asked for £30m, I bet he would be playing for us - but if they asked for £75m, then that’s not unreasonable, indeed sensible for us to say no. Mourinho has his targets, but he clearly doesn’t know how much they are going to cost.

Who had a ridiculous price tag.

Exactly - but some fans think we should just spend spend spend for the sake of it. I’m afraid we do have a budget.

Think we're the only fan base that the CEO fails to do his job in the market and will still find some to defend him anyway.

I’ll defend Woodward, but also support Jose. It’s strange that fans seem to think there is this binary choice between the two of them.

Surely Spurs should be protesting against Levy, didn’t sign anyone this summer? How about City protesting against their owners, Pep didn’t get the midfielder that he wanted.

Some ‘fans’ are just pathetic, we throw the term plastic against other clubs’ supporters, but this smacks of the same thing. Too many, self entitled ‘supporters’ I am afraid. Just because it’s Manachester United doesn’t mean we should be able to go and do whatever we like in the transfer market - it’s never even been like that for us. Semi-rant over.

Having a class right winger would be useless? You can quibble about the price and his age but it's laughable to suggest Willian wouldn't improve our squad.

He averages 5 goals a season. He is no Salah. If the rest of the team doesn't play well, he will likely not do anything useful as well.

Not really pulling up trees at Chelsea either.Chelsea fans were desperate to get rid of him, ever wonder why?

The main challenge for Levy was keeping his stars around. Keeping Kane, Alli and Eriksen in the team is the main target and he has been successful for it for years. No one expect them to win the league but just stick around, be in top 4 and not allowing their top guns to leave to other better and more-ready-to-win-titles teams. Why are you comparing us to a top 4 team when we should be compared to teams whose aim is to win the title ?

Our aim was to challenge for the league and for that we should have entered the summer with full guns and improve all the weak points like Pool and City did previously this summer and last one. We didn't. He deserves criticism for this. Simple as that.

I'm very well aware with quoted price flying around but it doesnt take away the point that suddenly Alderweireld is worse than what we have. Isnt that the narrative the media got from Ed's briefing or whatever? Overprice maybe, but saying it as it is, suddenly because he is overpriced he is worse tha Bailly Lindelof Jones Smalling, are you kidding me? Then Ed proceed to said he would go for Varane for 100 mil quid. Didnt that bullshit much? Bought Varane instead if you willing to pay 100mil, i bet Perez would gladly take that. We need CB, it plain to see. If we short of money, Darmian and Rojo are here to sell.
I'm not saying Ed out. He is bullshiting much and being call out for it.

I also mentioned City - you even highlighted it in bold.

No they weren't.

He doesn't score much but he would be putting balls on a plate for Lukaku. There's a reason Brazil and successive Chelsea managers rate him highly.

If he wants overpriced 29 year olds, you can certainly choose not to back him on those deals.

We go again after the international break. Watford more dissent, we won't stop.

Good day today, great to see the fans really getting behind Mourinho and the players who all have their faults but should be got behind.

Everybody was extremely well behaved about it and as far as I could see the rumour I heard about the banner re: Woodward's wife did not get put up. But I imagine it will be readied at any given moment.

That’s exactly what Woodward did, quibble about the age and price of players like Willian and Alderweireld. Both players would improve us, I don’t doubt that - but neither are World Class, and can we justify paying (speculation alert) £150m for these two players? That’s just completely nuts.

They were, when he was linked with various clubs.

I think a manager should scout a winger who does everything rather than go for half-measures. At 60-70 million, which would be his price, you expect someone who can do both. And it's not like Willian is 20 years old that he would improve.

When Lukaku goes into a slump, who will take up the goal scoring burden? That's when his crossing won't be enough. Not like Lukaku can score all 70 goals per season himself via crosses.

Accelerating the sack. You can't start a coup against your employer. This political game he's playing in the last week to drum up fan support isn't as good an insurance as he'll like to believe

Edit: inb4 more people think I mean he's literally trying to oust Woodward from the club

You mentioned them not getting a luxury player who was going to be a backup. They spent 300m on their defense and GK in 2.5 alone. That's about 100m less than what Mourinho has spent at a whole throughout his tenure here.

There's different between not signing luxury players and not signing players that you actually need at weak points you have. When they needed players at weak points, they spent shite load on them. Luxury players aren't that important and Pep was half arsed in his pressers about this deal.

Nail on the head.

So you think it would have been in the best interests of the club to spend £150m of Toby and Willian? Would that have made you happy?

People like to blame someone, and currently that’s Woodward.
