Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Apparently he's getting their late on purpose and will leave early.

Turf Moor is the worst possible ground for him, it's so un secluded and the directors car park is close to the away end.

He should have stayed at home.

Apparently Woodward's Mrs has got her own banner in the Away End today  Somehthing about a pig with lipstick...

Harsh that but Ed will have to address that when he gets home :D
Upstanding men with families know not to drag families into this. Tells you all you need to know about the people behind this.

If there are any banners targeting his family, that is completely unacceptable. I'd expect the OT crowd to respond to that somehow.

No offence, but what would you know about what the Old Trafford crowd feel about anything?

Eugh this banner makes me corpse.

When Mourinho joined and we got Pogba, Zlatan, Mhki and Bailly everyone thought Woodward was great. In January when we swapped Mhki for Sanchez everybody thought he was some maestro again. Now, we've had a terrible transfer window he's a terrible CEO and the 'real problem'.

In my view, Woodward is a brilliant corporate CEO and a terrible Director of Football and we need appoint a football expert to run our transfers and the football side of the business. Also, we have to be honest that one of the reasons there is so much heat on Woodward is because Mourinho has been passing the buck since the start of the summer. It's not overreacting or simplistic to conclude that many of our problems come down to the fact that our manager cannot get the best out of this squad.

I don't, as I am 5000 miles away obviously, but I know what I would do if I was there. Any decent supporter should if jokes go too far and get personal.

I suspect you wouldn't approve of a reaction though.

It's the fans that have done it.

Journalists want to hound Mourinho out, not Woodward who gives them briefings.

The fans want Woodward out. He's driving this club into the ground and it will only get worse, it's been proven it doesn't matter who the coach is.

Woodward is literally deciding which players we keep and who we sign etc. He knows nothing about football and has now undermined one of the most successful managers of all time.

If you think Woodward is good for United, you're not a Manchester United supporter in my opinion.
Surely Woodward is just the tip of the Glazer iceberg though? He's running the club exactly how they want?

He has interfered with the football side too much. And seems to only want to sign big marketable names. That will not work in creating a successful team on the pitch.

Also, you don't get to define who is and who is not a United supporter. Fans have different opinions...

why bother wasting time and money, The glazers love him as he keeps making money via the commercial channels and as long as he does this with us playing shite boring football nothing will sadly change.

I assume that by "the fans" you mean some fans.

Some fans are fickle morons, when we hired Moyes there was a "The chosen one banner" at Old Trafford.

Problem is that some people shift blame depending on which way the wind is blowing. Fergie played a large part when Moyes was pointed out to be the right man to take charge, now there's a pretty picture being painted of Woodward being the chump responsible for Moyes.

When we hired Van Gaal, and signed the likes of Di Maria, Shaw, Herrera, Blind, Martial, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Depay, Woodward was hailed as a genius, swooping in and taking care of business. Now he's an utter disaster, because we wasted money on the likes of Di Maria, Martial, Shaw, Herrera, Blind, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Depay, why didn't he put his foot down and refused to pay for those players

Mourinho comes in, Woodward is hailed as a genius for hiring the right manager to secure the future of the club, spends an absolute fortune signing Pogba, Mkhi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Bailly, Lukaku, Matic, Sanchez (wages), Lindeløf, Fred.

Suddenly gets slaughtered sideways for putting his foot down when we wanted to sign Alderwereid for an insane fee, and the notion that he thinks he knows more than the manager about players.

One day he's blamed for not putting his foot down and refusing to sign players, the next day he's blamed for doing so. Great.

Thinking this is black and white is absurd, fans are divided and rightly so. Some have the brain capacity to see that 1) Woodward is interfering when he should stay far away 2) the current manager should be doing a far better job with the players he has available.

This.

People dont want ed to meddle with footballing issue. Now he's a shit ceo for not meddling with football issue.

When you're losing everyone and their dog is shit these days.

Surely Woodward is just the tip of the Glazer iceberg though? He's running the club exactly how they want?
He is the tip of the iceberg you are right but people are missing the point on the Woodward stuff.

He's doing a great job for the Glazers but a terrible job for Manchester United on the pitch.

That's why you hound him and get him out of town to get try and put a knick on the owners. Woodward helped broker the deal for them to buy the club and has been a trusted money maker. To see him hounded out and his life made a misery would be a more direct punch on the Glazers stomach. More so than just having a go at them, that they don't care about they're miles away so it doesn't affect them personally. These demonstrations main aim is to affect Woodward personally so he leaves the club.

The Glazers would rock if they got the memo that Woodward had relinquished his duties.

If there are any banners targeting his family, that is completely unacceptable. I'd expect the OT crowd to respond to that somehow.
Will backfire badly when the discussion shifts from the quality of Woodward's work to the disgraceful abuse of his family by the fans.

The buck was always with Woodward. It wasn’t Mourinho’s job to make sure we got the players we needed.

While I will be embarrassed about a Woodward banner flying over the ground. One targeting his wife or family in the stands would leave me ashamed. The backlash that this would rightfully bring against our fanbase (not the club) would be massive and damning. It would instantly make the Woodwards the injured party and the fanbase a bunch of misogynistic pricks.

This is not how we need to behave as a group.

One manager fails to deliver in line with expectations = manager’s fault. Three consecutive managers fail to deliver = something more fundamental is wrong.

We talk about United being this huge, effective commercial enterprise but no business I’ve worked in would let the following occur:
1. Allowing the Board Chair (effectively Gill) & CEO (effectively Ferguson) to leave at the same time - complete loss of continuity and leadership.
2. Allowing the outgoing manager to select his successor - unheard of for multiple, obvious reasons.
3. Lack of enduring strategy or vision for the business - each manager seems to pick their own, with no reference to a ‘bigger picture’ theme around how the team should play.

Glazers out. Woodward out. Jose out. Press the re-set button.

A group of disaffected Manchester United fans have paid for a banner complaining about the way the club is being run to be flown over Turf Moor before Sunday's league game at Burnley.

The banner 'Ed Woodward - a specialist in failure' has been arranged by a group called 'A Voice from the Terrace' and will be flown over the ground about 20 minutes before kick-off.

Basically, the Guardian, BBC, Telegraph and Sky Sports is all papers talk, no strong source? Appointing new DoF will take a long time.
BBC and guardian was just recycling other sources.
We heard the same noise last year.

No offence, but what would you know about what the Old Trafford crowd feel about anything?
No offence, but you've shown yourself up to be absolutely clueless about the depth of fan feeling at the club either. I've been to every game this season except today as well btw.

100% agree with this.

Like Guardian and BBC won't be reporting if it's not true, they are one of the most reliable football newspapers. We heard the same last year, where did you head from? If my memory serves, it's not the director of football but the club's new secretary, that is part of the restructuring of the club's system, once it is completed, we will be able to appoint a new director of football.

@samuelluckhurst

#mufc fans now chanting 'Mourinho's Red and White Army'. Clear backing for the manager again after he wasn't backed by the board in the transfer window.

You sure mate?

Anyone have an idea of what the timetable is on this?

As I've said - I can't see us implementing one until Febuary/March time. It'll a long and important process - no point rushing to get one in ahead of January and make wrong call. Bringing one in for Febuary/March means it'll give them ample time to know and prepare what to do come next Summer.

What did the banner say? Any pictures?

Ed Woodward a specialist in failure :(

What's all this about targetting Woodward's family with banners in the crowd? Surely not...

The game not being televised in the UK makes this even more inaffective than usual. Very odd decision.

Joke on them but technically they're not wrong. We haven't won EPL since Woodward became CEO of this club

Mourinho Red and White Army chanting so loud already and kick off not even started.

Woodward not turned up the coward :D
