Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Whichever way you look at it, we haven't signed any players since Fred 2 months ago. That is ridiculous. And thats down to Woodward.

I'll be amazed if we sign another 2 players in the next 48 hours. We'll be lucky if we land Toby.

I'm sure the World Cup may have had something to do with that.

Still think we'll get another two, including one, oh my God I need to sit down, never saw that coming, Ed will you marry me transfer ;)

Woodward has done some massive deals over the last few years (Di Maria, Falcao, Pogba, Ibrahimovic (wages not fee) , Lukaku , Sanchez and Mkhitaryan) - so on one hand he has the ability to pull massive names out of the bag but on the other there does not seem to be a plan to it all - and 3/4 of them signings were all with 2 agents pushing their own agenda to line their pockets (you could probably say the same for Sanchez aswell).

I read a tweet this morning that in 10 years since Abu Dhabi that City have signed 66 players to the tune of 1.6bn pounds , and that has won 3 titles.

We finished 19 points behind them last season with this current squad minus Fred , Dalot and Grant. (They have added Mahrez in this time).

Now normally i would not panic- Woody can get big signings done - but it is not what we need- if it is true what Mourinho said and he gave him a list of 5 players- the majority of these should have been signed- there are clear gaping holes in this team - Mourinho is a winner- he hates settling for second best- but Woodward himself has said even not finishing in top 4 doesnt effect us financially , that is clearly the wrong message to send out. If i was Mourinho i would personally walk, his record will look like he has spent around 300 milion quid- but how many of those signings other than Matic , Bailly and Lukaku was he 100% on board with- this is a bloke where the team is above all else .

SAF was obsessed not only with winning but with retaining the title year after year , in employing Mourinho we were getting someone cut from the same cloth but without the board or experience in place behind the scenes to realise this.

As fans now we would be happy with progress on the pitch and finishing second- thats the reality- as long as we finish above Liverpool , we may say were only happy with winning the league but we know it is far from realistic.

Football goes in cycles and we dont have a god given right to the league - but we should exhaust everything in trying- im afraid with a Glazer stooge only interested in making sure they get their dividend at the end of year dealing with our transfers that it will be a long time until we are back on the bike, we are not even peddling at this moment .

For me a change is needed- whether it be a DOF or a football person- an ex player brought in to deal with transfers alone who aligns with the managers thoughts.

Mourinho for me has done wonders with what he has to deal with behind the scenes- and he is not perfect- he picks stupid arguments and his not brash enough to play expansive football due to fear of loss rather than courage to win, he has had money - a lot of it- and some of his signings have been failures, so i understand why the board would be weary to release more funds, but penny pinching certainly wont get us any closer to where we want to be.

So yeah get that Rugby Union loving urchin out.

If you break down the big deals that woody has done none have been difficult ( expensive but no difficult )

Di Maria , Real wanted rid
Falcao a loan deal that worked for all parties

Pogba had a point to prove and wanted to come home ( plus at that time no one else would have paid that fee for him

Zlatan wanted a swan song to his career in the prem and had fantastic relationship with Jose and wanted to work with him again

Lukaku ... he was playing for Everton for Christ sake not exactly difficult to tempt him out

Mikhi bought under the radar don’t think we had any competition for him

Sanchez wanted out of Arsenal thought by joining united he would win trophies and we were probably the only club who would pay his ridiculous wages

Look who went after and failed
Bale
Thiago
Ronaldo
Ramos
Neymar

All difficult buys and we failed miserably each time.

This transfer window is almost as bad as his first one in charge it’s an absolute shambles and leaves us with no chance of catching city
Sick to death of reading that we are the richest club in the world and most successful commercially when it’s obvious we have no intention of trying to get back to the top on the field

Tell me a difficult deal any club has ever done, and how you know that it was more difficult than any of the deals you mentioned?

He better have a fecking good excuse for this shambles of a transfer window

You could write-off any big transfer that way:

- Neymar: He didn't want to be in Messi's shadown and PSG were only ones who could afford his ridiculous wages + transfer fee
- Ronaldo: Issues with Perez and had achieved all he could at Madrid. Wanted to try out another league before retiring.

Fact is that to make a move happen, especially at the top level where players are already at WC clubs, they need to have a reason to leave other than sporting success or money, which they've already got at their original clubs.

He's just the face of the club hierarchy. I don't think he's particularly suited to the role, but I don't think he does anything without the say so of the owners. We'll probably have a long overdue discussion through out the season on the clubs actual ambitions after the window closes.

Exactly we sold Ronaldo to Madrid because he wanted to go there not because we couldn't afford to make him the highest paid player on the planet

Will come in for a lot of heat from fans and media over the next few weeks .

As he absolutely should. He's known the list of players we need to sign for months. He's had months to work with the scouts and figure out targets. He's had all last season to see where the problems exist and yet he's seen at Wimbledon taking time out when United should be signing players? Utterly disgraceful. He should be relieved of his duties immediately. He simply cannot help United compete. If I was Mou I'd resign in protest at what's happened this summer.

He should step down from Footballing matters. This Clown can not continue.

Went in needing reinforcement in midfield, right wing and left back. Came out with one midfielder and a right back.

It's going to be hard for him to continue doing this when the manager himself said he wanted two more players and he couldn't even get one done.

This is becoming embarrassing for a club of this stature.

The fact that the RB who is a kid who has barely played at all and god help us is injured. He will barely get a look in. He adores Valencia. Don't forget a third choice keeper as well.

I'm not sure getting him back into a purely commercial role would solve the politics at board level. He's just an extension of the owners. He might be incompetent but unless a Chief Executive has sway with the owners, it's unlikely it would change things. They could appoint a DoF to work on a long-term vision though..

fecking fraud with no ambition, cares more about signing commercial partners than players. Get a DoF now.

I think it's obvious the money wasn't available to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Glazers start to use the United revenue more for their American teams, as they had planned on doing originally.

He failed last year and again this year, he needs to be fired and replaced with someone competent.

I've had this opinion for ages - we need a DOF badly.
The problem is, the only people above him are the Glazer's and they know absolutely nothing about the football side of the club. They probably have no idea that Woodward has fecked up signings and probably wouldn't care if they did.

It's unfortunate, but it happens when your owners aren't ambitious and don't like football

Agree with pretty much everything you said and even the bit above, how much were those signings down to Ed? Like you say, one could argue most of those signings happened because of Jorge Mendes and Raiola.

I think the bloke is a clown when it comes to football. He's a banker who knows feck all about the game. He can't seal deals quickly, he can't even sell the deadwood. Chances are we're going into Friday's game with Darmian at right back. WTF? I'm no fan of Jose's style but you have to feel for him. He's got to use players who he's already told can leave the club a year ago.

When Pep wanted players gone, they went. Bony, Nolito, Fernando, Nasri, Kolarov, Clichy, Zabaleta, Hart on loan, Mangala...

If Pep had the Glazers at City he'd still be stuck with Zabaleta at right back.

The club is a shambles at the top.

Agreed !!

We could have got rid some from the below and replaced them with better players

Valencia / Young / Rojo / Darnian / smalling / Jones / Herrera / Mata

A 10 year old kid could see our problem was wing backs and a Right winger last year so it's Unbelievable we haven't addressed that this year !!!

Aye. He's bringing money in but he's messing with what our Brand is Known For.
Don't like the fact that we are now a brand not a football team. That is all they care about, how many global partners we have. Brag, brag, brag. How much money we make. Brag, brag, brag. How many subscribers we have on Youtube. Hey! We got a trophy for that. Twitter followers, Instagram followers. What about the football????

Exactly - he's yet to mention our style of play or other footballing matters etc

About what? They’re just pissing their pants over stuff they don’t understand.

Most can see what's in front of them. The squad is not good enough to challenge for the league. Look, the vast majority will support the team no matter what, but I can see massive protests happening against the board if results don't go our way. It was clear as day the club needed investment, and yet again the right targets haven't been found and acquired. It's really shocking for a club of this size.

Lol they’ve spent a fcuking fortune!!!

Protests?! Against what? Hiring shit managers? Because that’s about it since Ferguson left.

Woodward is a Glazer puppet, we are never going to be an elite club with this ownership. As soon as we get back into the top 4 they are content. Disgrace.

I can see us starting the season well, then a game comes along that Jose wets himself and have a repeat of last season, except I am not hopeful of 2nd place.

It's like people don't know we've got some players who are actually pretty good at football, it's all very strange.

Ed clearly has issues with the footballing side. Don’t get me wrong, he’d be able to make millions from a dildo partnership but when it comes to signing a player he seems to be fecking useless. I’m with the DOF camp.

We had a lower net spend than Stoke from when they arrived until SAF left. They only began to spend when shit hit and the fan and new TV deals came rolling in.

They absolutely need to go.
