Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

Such a disappointing signing. I thought we’d be set at LB for a decade when he signed :(

Seeing the state of the options we have at the moment makes me appreciate Irwin and Evra even more.

I think this is our problem in generally. Didn't realise how good we had it until those players have gone. Paddy left too soon for me and we could have got a least 2 more seasons out of him.

So where did this news come from, just after he got back into the 1st team squad and actually got a few minutes play time? I don't understand it? Would seem logical if had been excluded from league cup squad, but it looks like he now has a route back and Jose thinks he's ready to work his way into the starting 11.

Ricky Sbragia and we are shocking, currently bottom of the league with 5 points in 8 games.

Haven't we fired the fecker yet? I mean, we're Manchester FFS. That's not the result you expect from a club whose got our level of youth academy.

Probably the best for him. Hope he plays really, really well and has a solid career wherever he ends up.

Not bothered, lost patience with him ages ago

As long as we've got a good replacement in bound I'm not bothered where he goes.

I reckon we should loan him in Jan. Let him get regular game time and then in the summer we see where he's at. Win win for all parties.

I actually posted a comment a few weeks ago suggesting Shaw was actually putting his head down and what felt like he was genuinely on the road to recovery. I thought he would be given a chance to play in a couple of weeks and then I read on a few of my sites including Sky Sports that he has actually come out and stated he would like to work with Pochettino again. Not only do I find that a ridiculous thing to say whilst you are fighting to get into the 1st team but that this surely does mean we have wasted £30 million pounds on a player I thought would make that position his own for the next 10 to 15 years. I am also led to believe that if we were to go in for Danny Rose we would some how end up paying money for Rose plus Shaw. Spurs will fleece us dry. So thats another talking point. I would want at least 20 million back for Shaw although highly unlikely.

Top Priority right now should be a LB. We need to go all out for a player like Alex Sandro of Juventus.
I also think we need a RW, out and out right winger like a Gareth Bale or a Lucas Moura, top players.

Pretty sure about five different managers had issues with his mentality and fitness. It’s a real shame and mix that in with a leg break and several other injuries he had no chance really.
Name them all

I remember Shaw leaked to The Times that he was upset at being blamed by Jose for a goal conceded in some game. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/shaw-furious-at-mourinho-6zjxz0rr2

Hardly going to endear you to a new manager. Shaw showed he was fragile mentally by doing that. He's a wonderful player but whether he will have the defensive discipline to be in the team for a top club in his career looks doubtful at this point. Nobody has been willing to pay his 100,000 a week salary either so he might be here for a while yet.

Mentally he has yet to recover from that injury, sadly he most likely never will, and it's quite obvious his heart isn't with us any more. A shame because of the great talent that he is, but at the same time not too bothered with him leaving.

Now lets not rewrite his stay here. Some people commenting that he was mostly brilliant until leg break need to go an look back at the season. He was brilliant (arguably), for a total of 5 or 6 matches. Rest all were bang average or struggling with fitness even before leg break.

That's true, but Shaw was unfairly targeted. I think Mourinho does this everywhere he goes and expects the players to react in the way he wants. It worked for Ozil at Madrid, but it looks to have had the opposite effect on Shaw.

A shame, still think there's a potentially excellent footballer in there. Best of luck to him if he does move on.

Adkins Hodgson LVG Mourinho and possibly Pochettino has implied something about it.
Pochettino had nothing but praise for him, even said he was the best LB in the league. He then said the same about Rose the following season so his approach towards players is different. I didnt know about Adkins having the same criticism

We might as well send him on loan for a couple of months. There would be no shortage of premier league suitors.

Hodgson said:

“Watching him play in the matches for Southampton which caused me to select him, watching him in the game against Costa Rica when he played, he didn’t seem to have too many problems coping with the physical side of the game. That doesn’t mean he can’t be fitter and if Louis thinks that he can get him fitter then I’m sure he will certainly have our approval.

“But I think when he [Van Gaal] talks to Pochettino, then Pochettino will say to him: ‘What you were saying to Luke Shaw and what you’ve been saying to him, is what I was actually saying to him.”

Maybe not criticism from Pochettino but he had perhaps mentioned something at least.

Mourinho's injury comments can be applied to Rojo and Jones. He just plays favorites and he clearly doesn't rate Shaw.

He's done. I don't blame him for those comments though, he would obviously love to play for Spurs considering his current predicament. But things are different now even with Poch, he might struggle even under his favourite manager if he doesn't improve some aspect of his that is lacking. I am not sure what it is, but surely it is something major that is preventing Mourinho from giving him the same chance to work his way into the team that he gave Young, Mkhi and others.

Look at the part I bolded. It is amazing that people have twisted that to make it look like criticism.

Hodgson went on to say:

“Luke might have had it mentioned to him a couple of times during the World Cup, when we were together, by people like myself and Gary Lewin [England’s head physio].”

Maybe not direct criticism but it asks the question why people are always saying it to him. I don’t understand why we aren’t forcing him to get fit. Just stay behind for a bit of extra work or something. It surely can’t be that difficult when your life revolves around it.

He hasn't been given a chance, the million dollar question is why not? What jose said about him last season was a disgrace. Fergie would never have treated one of his players like that in public.
When are you people gonna wake up and realize that your Fergie is no longer here. Hey Britain, what's with the Brexit mates? Churchill would've never...

This is going to be frustrating when he's inevitably given a run of games elsewhere and excels. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that Shaw's attitude has been a problem, at times, however he stands no chance of proving himself unless he is given the opportunity to do so.

It also begs the question what the hell was Mourinho playing at in the summer transfer window? If the plan was to give Shaw a final shot to cement his place in the side then this hasn't worked. If Mourinho knew he wasn't able to give Shaw the opportunities then he should have signed a left back. Poor all round, really.

Reading Mourinhos full comments, it's not a total write off just yet. He's putting his form down to injury and lack of game time rather than lack of anything else on his part. I'm sure Jose knows the comments are bullshit and old and that's why he's playing it down.

He also says that he needs to wait for the opportunity to come where he can play again. He's not exactly closed the door just yet.

If we believe what Jose is telling (and that is a big if)
Then it seems Shaw can get into the side, if he does better than others and earns his place, which would then get him that run of 5-6 games to good form. Unfortunately, we are not in a position where we can take a risk with a player for continuous 5-6 games so that we can see if he improves.

But what he's also saying is he'll only get a proper opportunity if Blind, Rojo, Darmian and Young are all unavailable.

Or become fitter and better than all the 4 in training. Unless of course one believes Jose has some agenda against Shaw

Nice agenda, Brenda.
