Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

Or become fitter and better than all the 4 in training. Unless of course one believes Jose has some agenda against Shaw
Call it an agenda or whatever, but I just think Jose doesn't rate him both as a footballer and probably his mental toughness.

Whatever it is, it seems like he needs some kind of miracle to salvage his United career from here.

To me Jose's comment suggest he still has a chance. He didn't attack over the Poch comments or refuse to talk about him which would have been a much worse sign.

Not sure if what Mourinho stated changes anything. Basically saying that if he becomes a top left back again by his own sheer will in training and reserves then he'll be delighted but he's not putting the player in the first team for the sake of Shaw's career being revamped.

Think he'll be sold this coming summer. Mourinho was already fed up last season - doesn't matter how much potential he has.

We know that mourinho did rate him before as he tried to buy him for Chelsea. This is down to shaw being unable to stay fit. Now thAt every point is crucial he doesn’t want to take a chance. I can understand that. Lvg had the same problem with him but to be fair he persevered with him and Shaw was our best player prior to breaking his leg. We should give him a run of games, sink or swim.

He is a waste of space earns thousands a week and cant even be arsed to keep him self fit, He wasn't even that great in his first season slow, fat, he thinks i have made it why work hard.

Breaking your leg 2 years ago does not stop you from being in Shape he is lazy and has no work ethic.

All this crap about Mou not giving him a chance is just that crap, he was shit for LVG and 5 games of good form before the leg brake does not change the fact he was lazy pre injury, lazy after and seems to give 0 fecks that he is flushing a great chance down the toilet.

I won't be sad to see him go, he won't ever succeed here. We've had enough patience.

Bitch is that you just know he'll go to some other team, stay injury free and become very good though.

Was actually shocked how out of shape he looked mid-week. He's always been fairly chunky/muscular but he was visibly thicker than every other player on the pitch and not in a good way.

Another problem he has is that the players Jose has selected ahead of him have stepped up and not let him down.

Darmian in the Europa league including the final. Ashley Young today. Even Blind.

He's not going to get the game time here.

He wont get game time as he clearly does not want it enough.

Young is making him look real bad right now and he is a winger ffs.

He should be docked wages for not keeping himself in shape, its the most basic thing you would expect from a professional athlete thats earning thousands p/w and has all the facilities they need at their disposal.
If United wanted to sell him, him not keeping himself in shape makes it a lot harder for teams to open their cheque book up for him

Ditto.

He was outstanding until the legbreak as well.

Lets not re-write history.
In his first season, he was badly out of shape and LVG did not use him. LVG and Shaw both agreed that he needs to work on his physical shape, which he did.
Shaw then started the next season and did play well for about 8 games, before getting injured.

During his 3.5 year career at MUFC, he has had about 10 good games, which is an absolute disaster. The much maligned Anderson, had more good games for us, than Shaw, during a 3.5 year period.
Shaw is the worst signing I have ever seen at MUFC, when you consider the price tag (most expensive LB in the World). No other player even comes close.

Loan him to Newcastle, then he can be Geordie Shaw

I don't get the claims that Shaw doesn't look like a first team player in the U-23 team because United's U-23 players aren't very good. Kieran Tierney looks like a Champions League player against Bayern Munich even though Celtic's players aren't very good.

Many of us predicted he'd be gone next summer. It was negligent to not sign a left back.

Well that's it for Krispy kreme, Trafford park.

Will surely shut without their number one customer.

all the talk is him going to spurs but can't see Pochetino being interested given that he was not a huge fan while they were at Southampton together

I've recently come through bargaining and am currently in depression with the whole Shaw issue. Acceptance that he is on his way without doing anything for us whatsoever is getting closer.

With all Shaw's issues over the years, it really was a perplexing decision not to get a proper LB or at least an understudy to Shaw.

Did you just skip the anger stage?

I wish we could swap tierney for Shaw!

I never went through anger with Shaw for some reason. As Kübler-Ross and Kessler point out the five stages are not a linear path and we don't all go through each of them. But I'm certainly grieving the loss of Shaw as he's fecking toast at United.

I’ll be sad to see him go as I thought this kid was going to be our left full back for a decade.

But If it means that we bring in a top class replacement, then on your way son!

In fairness, the "laziness" allegations aside, this thread could almost be the Jones threads for years.
And he's playing well now.

Whether we can wait another 2-3 years is anyone's guess.
We can't be messing about with veteran wingers and utility players there beyond this summer surely.

There could never be any doubt as to the effort that Jones put in on the pitch though. And he didn't have a raft of his managers all calling him lazy.

Get him to stab some grasses in the lunch queue then he can be shaw shank redemption

And still people repeatedly talked about getting rid, with the wackier ones mixing up injured with not being good enough

Shaw 'eyeing Southampton return'
The latest report from the Mirror believes that Luke Shaw hopes to return to former club Southampton as he doesn’t currently feature in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans at Old Trafford.

Wouldn't mind a straight swap for VVD. They can have Lindelof too.

With all Shaw's issues over the years, it really was a perplexing decision not to get a proper LB or at least an understudy to Shaw.

An understudy?
Shaw is already our lowest ranked LB.
An understudy for Shaw would probably be a 16 year old, in our boys' team.

The crazy thing is that even now, in the 11th hour, Shaw can prove to Jose that he is going to work hard.
If he puts in heavy shifts in training. Hours in the gym. Loses weight and visually demonstrates to Jose that he is the hardest working defender/full back in the team and is ready to run through brick walls for Jose and the team, Jose will love every bit of this. If players prove themselves to Jose, Jose plays them, even when they play badly.
Instead, he's basically accepted that he is not prepared to work harder (or diet down to reduce his weight) and would rather move to another team for an easy way out.

If he was my son (and I am old enough to be his father), I'd be having stern words with him and I'd tell Jose to do whatever it takes (complete carte blanche) to whip Shaw into shape and make him the best LB in the club.

Anyway, this is looking like a chapter which is about to close and I hope we get a proper LB, preferably not a kid, but someone who is approaching their prime, who will come in and perform well for the next 3-5 years. Danny Rose was making noises about moving North. He fits the bill and would be an instant upgrade to all our current LB options.

I'd be surprised if we took him back. Word is that when we sold him, we didn't really want to but the money was impossible to turn down. It would even in today's stupid market. But there was another factor. There were concerns over his fitness and the way his body was developing. I do remember the season the penultimate season with us, he was quite willowy. His last season with us, he had massively bulked up. I wonder, and I sure am NOT a physio, whether his body just carried on growing and took that few percentage away from him to be at the very very top. He's certainly quite a bulky lad. Maybe coming back to Saints would be for the best, but I'm not sure we like taking players back. Maybe the ignominy of Stoke or WBA call.

I think Luke Shaw would make a fantastic extra on one of those rap music videos with those women with massive arses. Definitely can make a career out of that.

There were concerns over his fitness and the way his body was developing..

It seems like an endless procession of concerns and question marks over his fitness and his mentality, they can't all be wrong...!!
I think a move back to Southampton would be the very worst possible move for Shaw too.
Back amongst his mates, down the pub, scoffing donuts & kebabs.
The move doesn't suggest that knuckling down is foremost in his thoughts.
