Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

One question: Does any of you remember another player who would've been so desperately wanted to make it by the fans.

Potential, age and nationality are the reasons obviously. Fans have shown some great patience.

YES. But other than wait him endlessly, we should have a contingency plan. We CAN'T wait him forever. This is his fourth year in United, and he can't even make one full season healthy. We can't rely on him. We need a new LB, who is young and good, who can be our starting 11. If Shaw can play, good, compete with the new LB. If he can't, sell and we still have a good LB here.

Good. Clearly Jose is in no mood to tolerate any more messing around after Huddersfield

As I've said before, we are not a crèche. Regardless of your age, you contribute or you're out

Not having a proper/good left-back is also limiting Martial and Rashford.

Pretty sure about five different managers had issues with his mentality and fitness. It’s a real shame and mix that in with a leg break and several other injuries he had no chance really.

If he can't win back a place at United a loan would be good from January. Based on how that goes give him an extended contract or sell.

Who's the other besides LvG and Jose?

I don’t think it would matter where he was, he just hasn’t got it in him.

Maybe Anderson - partly cos we were desperate for the type of midfielder he could have been at the time - ironically another one who liked the pies a bit too much.

Its a shame that it came to this when I genuinely thought we are set for the long-haul when we bought him. The injury he got was definitely the turning point, but certainly can't be used an excuse by him.

I am happy that atleast we will get a proper left back soon. Its one of the biggest glaring gaps we still have in the squad. Wonder if Jose would consider buying a LB in the winter season, like we did with Evra.

Anderson, everyone wanted him to make it, he kind of did and then kind of didnt. 3 cruciate ligaments stopped him but everyone was supportive of the huggable mad fecker.

He is done for, we ll get Rose in return and pay some money. I think we ll get better end of that deal. Would love to get ghoulam but he seems city bound by any links being reported with him.

Thought he'd be our lb for 10 years. Clearly not. all the opportunity in the world and somehow he couldn't be fecked. Yeah it was a bad injury but he's not the first to suffer that. What an idiot.

Incredibly naïve comment. Since his leg break, Jose hasn't give him a run of games and slated him publicly.

I do think Shaw could have worked harder in training perhaps (but as we do not know what actually happens there we just do not know). Clearly Jose isn't going to give him a chance, so I agree a move may be best for both parties, but to say Shaw is an idiot is extremely harsh

Not sure why he isn't getting a run of games, if he was done under Jose we would have sold in the summer.

Jose didn't play miki until halfway through the season, perhaps this is the case with Shaw.

Jose clearly doesn't fancy shaw right now, and has issue's with him since last season. You don't publicly slate a player like he did last year, he was way too harsh in my opinion.

Seems fans have made they're mind up, which is also a shame as he is a young home grown talent who we should support. But we'll end up paying 50mil+ for Rose now and perhaps people will be happy with that

Fair enough he'll probably get sold but people calling him a coward and slating him into the ground is plain embarrassing.

He's 22, he's still got a lot of time to improve before his peak years and he will under the right guidance.

Rose is a crock. We can’t honestly replace Shaw with a crock.

Incredible to think this kid is still only just 22. The thing that is baffling me is, 2 seasons ago he came flying out of the traps having spent the summer working on his fitness. He was one of our standout performers up until the injury in mid-September 2015.
It's almost as if since then he's decided the effort to get back to that level of fitness is just too much. Certainly if he's done it once he should be able to do it again, especially at that age and earning so much, and with the opportunity to make that left back spot his own for a decade if he wants it badly enough.
It's quite a curious situation but I hope something inside his head clicks and we get to see the early 2015-16 version of Shaw again one day.

I still hope he’s given a chance. He needs one good performance and it’ll change everything, I still think he’s a fantastic talent but he’s lost his way.

Yeah, I was going to say Anderson as well. Especially as his first season was highly promising.

It feels like one of those where the player needs a fresh start. It might take him a season or more of playing to begin to reach his top level again, and that can't happen at United. We can't carry a player for that long. If he isn't performing near his best within, say, half a dozen games, the pressure at our club will mean we're forced to bench him, and then the cycle begins again. Better to go somewhere and just get some playing time.

It has become quite obvious that Shaw has no long term future at Utd and it would be best for both to move on...my only gripe being that for the exorbitant outlay in signing him we will only see a fraction in return. And when you consider the sums we would have to part with to secure another top LB its just doubly frustrating. Talk of swap deals with Rose coming the other way would only come to pass if spuds, and Levy in particular, see an equivalent of the sum we paid out to sign Shaw...effectively us getting stung twice!

Don't want Tierney, want a proven replacement. Motherfeck this waiting for players to improve shit, let's go win the league.

My sentiments too. We need to stop taking risks in those positions, sign a top RB and LB and watch our football improve tremendously. You just need to look at the difference it's made to City's play. It's the most important position in football today imo and we have at best decent options, no top class ones.

I'd be happy if we brought in Tierney along with a top class option for competition, depth and to take the mantle if and when he is ready.

I'm amazed embarrassed and quite frankly pissed off with the reaction of some of our 'fans' here.

This is a young guy with tremendous potential who suffered a horrendous potential career ending injury. He fought his way back and I thought looked quite tidy in his few appearances last year and was forcing himself back into the first team picture before suffering another awful injury.

He actually makes over lapping runs - he probably gets told off for that!

We don't know the behind the scenes story but I only wish him well and that he proves Mourinho wrong if he leaves. I'm sure he will.

He played his best (and only see as he's hardly played for us) under Poch at Southampton. You can easily see he plays better under a coach who puts his arm around him rather than the tough love approach

Once again - who's to say Jose hasn't tried that arm around the shoulder approach? You're clutching at straws if you think a manager of his experience went straight to cricitising him publicly. He most probably tried multiple things to get a reaction, with none working.

Out of the entire population of professional footballers surely there is another decent left back out there?

What I wouldn't give to resign a 24 year old Evra :(.

Hows that highly rated Swiss guy that went to Milan from Bundlesliga? His name escapes me.

EDIT : Ricardo Rodríguez

Drivel. Considering Shaw himself came out and said Jose wants both his fullbacks to get forward, I highly doubt he gets told off for it.

Secondly I'm pretty sure people are past the point of feeling sorry for him. He's a grown man and a professional. If he isn't doing his job, he will get replaced by someone who will, that's how the World works. I'm barely seeing people calling him a Cnut and shite. People are just saying he's not going to make it here and we should cut our losses so we can a) improve our weakest position for years and b) he can get a fresh start.

On your point about him proving Mourinho wrong - hopefully he will. I'd be happy to see Shaw doing well and fulfilling his potential, but for a while now it's been evident it's not happening here.

There are very good fullbacks available if you pay the money. Ghoulam is a very good option and he could be on a free.

This is the sensible option.
With no pressure and the spotlight off him and regular game time, he might get himself together and begin to realize his potential.
It's easy to forget that he is still only 22..!!

I think a loan to a club such as Newcastle would be an ideal opportunity for him.

Watching him in U23 games he is just being a journeyman, doing just enough, not going into 50-50's, looking like he is just making sure he is not making any mistakes.

As the most experienced player on the pitch he should be dominating, leading and setting an example. He is just filling a shirt and if anyone is willing to spend money on him we should snap their hand off.

Time to go

we can agree to disagree Womp but no need for calling my opinion "drivel" as you don't agree with me

still think he has been treated unfairly by Mourinho, when he came back at the beggining of last season we where all talking about how great he was and how he didnt look like he had just missed 9 months of football

Then Mourinho make a complete tactical balls up, singles out Shaw when he was no no way near the worse player on the pitch, and things have gone to pot since.

Ive i was Shaw id let my contract run down and leave on a free.

We need to get a new LB ASAP. I think Ghoulam will be a great option for us. His contract will also expiring soon, june 30-2018 if i am not mistaken.

Please explain why a player that isn't showing nothing for 2 years still deserve an opportunity. I have some difficulties understanding that.

I also have difficulties understanding your statement :D

Season injury from until Days Games missed
17/18 Intraarticular ligament crack knee Jan 30, 2017 Oct 17, 2017 260 days 33
16/17 Hamstring Injury Sep 5, 2016 Oct 3, 2016 28 days 7
14/15 Hamstring Injury Apr 20, 2015 May 4, 2015 14 days 2
13/14 Knee injury Feb 24, 2014 Mar 10, 2014 14 days 3
13/14 Fractured foot Sep 19, 2013 Dec 9, 2013 81 days 18

I think you can see he is not a crock, only long term injuries are a fractured foot and Ligament tear that can happen to anyone. Apart from that very little muscle injuries. He has missed a total of 12 games in 4 and something seasons with muscular injuries and 30 in total apart from his latest ligament injury. That is would say is a very decent record.
