Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

Need ro resolve one way or another. Kept calling for us to get a LB all summer, we basically don't have one in the squad, and it is seriously affecting us offensively and defensively.

Would have spent the £40m we committed to Lindelof to the more obviously pressing need of a left back.

Said before, but I think we'd need a City-like full-back summer next year. Probably any full-back other than the 33 year old Valencia is expendable, and ultimately not good enough. We need to bring in a few full backs on both flanks to replace them. A starting left back, a right back to start or compete at least, and probably another who can play both sides as cover.

He hasn't been given a chance, the million dollar question is why not? What jose said about him last season was a disgrace. Fergie would never have treated one of his players like that in public.

I thought I agreed with the context of the first half of this post, with nearly every manager Shaw has played under before Jose also having complained about him not working hard enough, so it is clear why he isn't playing.

Then the absolute lunacy of the second half happened. Can't be surprised when someone has 0 likes in nearly 7 years of posting here I guess.

It's so fecking inevitable now, isn't willing to fight to win his place. That leg break really stalled his career and it's turned out a poor investment. We really need to address that position, been neglected for too long and is a weakness.

I have to agree with this. Valencia is decent but even he doesn't hold a candle to the best fullbacks in the game. His delivery is shocking and he has been shite at beating his man for about 5 years now. We don't even have a left back.

That position is severely hindering us imo.

and the situation is worsened by the fact we dont have one true winger in the squad, our full backs provide all our width and our full backs arent quality... why this wasn't addressed in the off-season is beyond me. Jose isnt stupid, the only thing I can think of is the Glazers capping the transfer budget.

Ditto.

He was outstanding until the legbreak as well.

He wasn't. He's had maybe 5 games in a United shirt that have been better than Young, Darmian or Blind in that position.

He has been inconsistent and more bad than good. He's the most talented left back in the league but the worst one at our club. That's ridiculous.

He needs to leave, get hungry again (pun accidental) and play some football.

He certainly seems like deadwood and we don't need that around. Buyback clause it?

Yeah just in case.

Not sure who to replace him with. Alex Sandro would be the dream, though he's unrealistic. Is Ghoulam good enough? Grimaldo?

It's too easy to make a Fifa joke. I'll refrain. I don't know enough about LBs around the world to comment, but Ghoulam is a good name. Specially with it coming up to halloween.

He's been shite most of time. Thing looked good for about 4 games until that injury.
Believe or not broken bone isn't that terrible for athletes, ACL is much worse. The problem is clearly his attitude.

At this point, I don't give a feck any more, get a proper replacement and everyone move on.

He's leaving? I thought they had just moved his chair closer to the door.

It's a shame but I'm skeptical that Shaw can fully return to any kind of form under Mourinho, I think he needs a lower pressure environment and a arm around the shoulder manager.

Time to cut our losses i think. He had a handful of good games before his leg break, after a summer of intense training with a personal trainer. Before that and ever since he has been rubbish and it seems to be mostly down to his motivation levels. Our LB position is our weakest so if if he can't nail down the spot after 4 years and two established top level managers it says a lot about him. He just doesn't seem cut out for a big club.

Who's to say he hasn't attempted this? I find it highly unlikely a manager with Mourinho's experience would have opted for criticizing publicly as his first attempt at getting a reaction out of the player.

Good. Had very high hopes for him when he first joined us. Has proved nothing to suggest he'll fulfill his potential now. Sell him and buy a new LB, something we should have done this season. As others have pointed out, maybe Jose planned to play Perisic as LWB. Sadly didn't happen.

I'm sad. Feels like another Rafael/Fabio loss...
Whenever we think we have a future superstar full back, something goes wrong.

He needs to go and play for a manager he has not jilted before.

Whether it's his his fault or not, he needs to go. His career is in limbo, and our confidence in him to be our left back for the years to come has to come to an end.

With Shaw playing for a contract extension and a place in the England WC squad, he should have been playing his best football ever. Instead, he's an average player on a bottom of the table U-23 squad. You can't have that on a team with ambition. Kieran Tierney has top tier ability and a team captain's attitude. Get him signed, and Shaw sold, in the first week of January and put an end to the Shaw saga forever.

Time to put an end to this misery. He goes to other club and we sign a new top LB.

This will go down as one of our most underwhelming signing ever.

And no doubt will turnout to be a success, but if jose doesn’t fancy him then its best to get rid I suppose.

Bull Shit.

Rather loan him for a year or two than sell at the moment.

3 minutes ? Embarrassing for him. Why does Jose wan5 to humiliate him? The guy needs a chance and 3 minutes isn’t it.
There are always two camps. One is its only 3 minutes, what can I do. The other is I have 3 minutes, I'll show people what I can do. Give a guess which will be more successful in the long run?

One see opportunity where other see excuses.

You can't honestly believe that? The Glazers aren't stupid either,Let's take Leicester out of the equation because that is a once in a lifetime occurrence but in this league you can't win without spending big money.

You're right,Jose isn't stupid, if Shaw isn't playing then he isn't good enough.

Don't want Tierney, want a proven replacement. Motherfeck this waiting for players to improve shit, let's go win the league.

I would bring him on for the last 20 mins in the next 3-4 games and see how he handles it. If he cant attack and defend against tiring players then he really is of no use. If he comes good then give him an half and take it from there. This would also build up his confidence no end.
Can we afford to experiment with him when we have such important games coming up? He should do better than the others in training to win back his spot. How did Young suddenly become our main LB? By doing exactly that and impressing Jose in training. It's not like he has very tough competition for his spot. If he can't do better than them, I don't see him making it here.

Where has this Spurs link come from? What would Spurs want him for cos it ain't playing at left back that's for sure.

You are probably right if it is that hes not impressing in training. I just hope Jose hasnt fell out with him and not playing him because of that instead. Either way we need a better option and fast than Young, Darmian or Blind.

He played his best (and only see as he's hardly played for us) under Poch at Southampton. You can easily see he plays better under a coach who puts his arm around him rather than the tough love approach

He broke his leg.
Correction. That thug Moreno broke his leg. And the cnut was still on the pitch to score the fecking equaliser.
Everything happening with him now I think is a direct result of that thuggery.
Shaw was playing great that season up until that point

I think its the best decision for both the club and the player. I think a loan maybe would have been useful, but Jose just does not seem very interested in him, so best to move him on. He is still young and should be able to get his career back on track somewhere else.

Increasingly it's looking like he should have been shipped out in the summer. When you're behind a 32 year old Ashley Young playing out of position it doesn't bode well for your chances. The same goes for Blind and Darmian but we need the numbers so I reckon at least one of them will stay for next season.

We were all happy when he signed for us but we have to be clear that he has no future at United. He had 3 seasons to show what he had (2 if you remove his big injury).

We miss a player in this area and this is critical, as we never attack from the left properly, our wing attacks are only down to Valencia on the right and as he is less effective these days, it shows how poor we are in the channel now.

I know that some of you don't rate him, but a player like Rose would fit well in our team. But I'm not sure that we will go for him this Jan, as he will be unable to play in CL.

As for Shaw I would like to see him in a smaller club like Everton, or West Ham where he will be able to play week in week out.
