Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

We should loan him for a season to a good prem club. It allows us to postpone the decision for a season and maybe get a good back up lb for the season after, assuming his replacement is the real deal.

Agreed with a small contract extension. Burnley, Palace, Bournemouth would be ideal spots for game time and availability.

Ashley Young’s spot in the squad would theoretically be up for replacement 12 months down the line too if he performs well enough to retain him.

This - would love to see him succeed here still . He needs to go somewhere where he'd be first choice though. Problem is we need someone here and now - so in theory we need to sign someone which then blocks him..

Suspect he'll leave on a free at the end of his contract, don't think we'll be able to sell him due to the wages he's on.

Think Shaw's got bigger mental issues than him simply lacking fitness. Says a lot if we can't shift him in the summer, even on loan.
I am not to bothered should we lose Shaw, rather just disappointed due to his potential. The weight he carries says it all, if he cant get himself into fighting fit shape then you have to question his mentality/desire to be the best which all top players need. I think he falls into the category that thought he had made it when he arrived at United when in reality the hard work should have just begun.

He doesn't really not show it. He turns out performances far better than the dross Young churns out and yet can't get near the team.

I'm sure this has something to do with his general attitude.
It also doesn't help when at 22 years of age, he as carrying more weight than Young (his competition), who is 10 years older and due to experience, can probably read the game better.
See below.

If shaw is not putting in the effort(which he clearly isn't) he shouldn't play, and be sold. It's as simple as that. Even if there isn't much difference between him and Young's form this year. Sends a bad message if you have lazy players with half hearted attitude who can still play.

I think for Jose, the attitude of a player is more important than his skill level.
This is the reason why we see grafters, ahead in the pecking order, over more skilful players.

Agree with you largely here. I think Shaw has bigger issues that are highlighted by his lack of ability to stay in shape. I think Shaw has needed nurturing and probably would have developed better under a consistent regime such as Fergie. It's a shame really because he was going to be England's number 1 left back for years to come.

I’m confused with people here who are crying about Shaw being sold on the fear of him turning world class and being ok with selling jones. By all accounts I see jones as a potentially world class player out of the two if they both can stay fit

It's very obvious he's a great LB. Showing exactly what we were missing. just the injuries are stopping that atm. Highly doubt whoever replaces him won't be that much of an improvement besides not getting injured.

Will Shaw be going to Russia for the world cup? Who does England have as LBs? Bertrand? Baines? Utility man Ashley Young? Anyone else i've missed?

I'd doubt it. There's also Rose, Cresswell, Trippier (secondary position) and Delph is even an option now too having played there a bit for City this season. Delph could go as a backup CM/emergency LB.

Rose and Bertrand are the first two choices, then it's Young at the moment, after that Cresswell if talking guys who are going to primarily play there. Young could go ahead of Bertrand because of his versatility, go as well as Rose and Bertrand or not at all.

Then you have Trippier and Delph who can join the mix somewhere if they were primarily named in other positions.

Cresswell was in the squad late last year.

Baines and Shaw are pretty much out of the picture.

Obvious?? It so isn’t

He’s been replaced by a converted winger at Utd. If you think there’s no better LB out there, you really should start watching more European football

Not obvious at all.

What attribute does Shaw have that is similar to great left backs? Has he even registered an assist in the premier league? Bang average player, let him go in the summer and get a proper left back in.

Danny Rose can't wait to replace Shaw in Man Utd this summer. He has been waiting for a contract that match Kyle Walker's in city since last summer.

Hope we stay well away from Eddie Murphy jr.

Will cost a fortune, dodgy injury record and are yet to reach his previous heights.

Everyone of his managers has had issues with his dedication to the game! Seems to be pretty much nailed on Jose for a lot of this thread. Only reason why Shaw isn’t starting every game is Shaw!

Sorry, missed out the white text. I agree with you actually!

I believe that he has good speed. He is fat right now, but once he loses weight, he'll be as agile/fast as any LB.
Apart from speed, I don't actually know what else he brings. The problem is that he is still young and hasn't developed any specific skills, which identify him as a certain type of player.

The problem is he is a pro football player and young so that he is fat says a lot about his state, he has been carrying xtra weight for many years .. He is fighting for his Utd future but looks like he couldn't care less, for me he should leave this summer and be replaced by someone who could make us a better team or just could be of any use.. Please not be Rose ..

Actually it's obvious that he isn't a great left back. Which is precisely why he won't be a United player next season.

Wanted him to work out and be our LB for a decade but think it's over for him.

For all of his supposed talent, he can't displace Young. And it's nothing to do with favouritism either. He's not showing any evidence he is better or more consistent than Young. He can't even keep his weight down.

Sick of hearing excuses like "his leg break" and "Mourinho being too tough". His leg break was years ago and if he still can't get over it, he's not mentally strong enough to be top quality.

As for Mourinho being too tough, he's not the first coach to have issues with Shaw. Most coaches have issues with him. If he can't meet expectations, he can leave.

And yes, he might become a world class left back but I'm sure we'll find a suitable replacement.
