Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

It seems like an endless procession of concerns and question marks over his fitness and his mentality, they can't all be wrong...!!
I think a move back to Southampton would be the very worst possible move for Shaw too.
Back amongst his mates, down the pub, scoffing donuts & kebabs.
The move doesn't suggest that knuckling down is foremost in his thoughts.

I don't know a pub in Southampton that does that combination. Maybe south London? Crystal Palace

Time to cut our losses. He might come back and stay fit for six months, but we all know it will suddenly end up with a sudden injury again. Much like Jones, we just can’t trust him when it comes to fitness. Besides, his mentality must be shot and having been injured a lot myself when trying to become «pro» in Norway, as a player you stop trusting your own engine and just wait for the next breakdown - you also change your habits to avoid injuries. That’s the same for all levels, either your legs work or they don’t - and you get affected mentally.

A left-back is top priority. Keep Blind and Young as options, bring in a new one.

Swapping Rose with Shaw would be the most logical thing for all parties. Spurs will get a player who has tons of potential but already have a reliable player in Davies, United will get a left back who can start every game and Shaw will get the chance to link up with a manager who has faith in him.

Well I just read that Ghoulam has damaged his ACL in his last game, so that rules him out as an option.

You know Danny Rose has only ever managed over 25 PL games twice in a season right...
Over the last 5 seasons he has literally missed over 40% of games - so yeah perhaps you should rephrase that as a left back who could start every other game for us

There's no indication that Pochettino has faith in him. Being fat and lazy is route #1 directly out of Poch's good graces as well.

I bet he goes back to Southampton and becomes a pub trivia answer one day.

Yeah, Rose is a decent player but misses a lot of games himself. I hope our scouts and management come up with something a little more original than Rose.

Wouldn't mind Bertrand.

I like Rose alot, but I do think that Bertrand could be a more reliable option, and probably a damn sight easier to negotiate for than Rose..!

It's a shame for Luke as he could have been the LB for 10+ years here. But if he hasn't got the minerals to play for United then it's best he leaves so we can bring someone in who has the balls.

Didn't do that much research into Rose and he's not my first choice but I believe he'd be good value if we swap him for Shaw.

The Times and the Telegraph have articles saying that we're willing to sell Shaw for around £20m, with The Times going a step further in saying that we want him out in January.

I’d imagine there would be quite a bit of intrest in him. Heck I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of City or Chelsea see him as a good back up they could work with but i’d Think if he was getting sold and he was willing to take a pay cut then Spurs would be all over him.

20m for him gonna be a bargain. Can't see it. Will be for about 10m, 15m maximum.

£20 million is great. 70k a week can go to someone who will actually contribute to the team as well.

Thought he'd be give half a season to claim that place, pity it couldn't happen, but we just don't have the time to wait anymore.

Hope we bring in a world class LB.

If that means we are bringing someone in, that would be great.
My top target would Alex Sandro, but Juve wouldn't sell for anything reasonable and likely not at all in January. I'd take a swap deal for Rose, but Spurs will likely ask for something ridiculous for him as well.

He'll end up somewhere like West Ham, Everton, someone around that level, as for me he's just proven himself to be a good player incapable of showing the commitment or mentality to thrive at a really big club.

£20m isn't happening although City got £12m for a knackered Wilfried Bony so maybe we could squeeze £15m out of a mid table club.

We have to get him through Christmas and the temptation of Christmas puddings and selection boxes first. He has real talent, but not the mentality, such a shame.

+£20m/130k-a-week salary, with City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton "keeping a watching brief". Good grief! Ducker is usually better than this.

He'll end up at a midtable club, and we'll be lucky to get £10m.

He's a proven talent who was selected in the PL team of the year at 18. The fact that he suffered a serious injury and then got on the wrong side of Jose Mourinho (something that's not hard to do) shouldn't be a deal-breaker.

What about the fact that every manager he's ever worked for has questioned his fitness and mental state? Or that he's visibly overweight, regularly injured and doesn't seem to be putting in the required effort?

Him having a shit attitude and poor mentality might be though. What if he doesn't care that much about football?

Premiership clubs have money now. Moyes approved his move here didn't he? Maybe Everton see him as a replacement for Baines and they'd pay £20m.

Any midtable club can afford to pay £20m for him.

The talent is clearly there but he just doesn't have the mentality and tbf he's had awful luck with injuries.

The fact that he is terrible now is a deal breaker. Which is far more important than what he was at 18.

He's a proven fat waste of space.

I could see him ending up at Everton depending on who takes charge there. Baines is getting on.

I just wish we would give him a run of 4-5 games, he is a very talented left back but injuries have stalled his career completely. If he gets his physical and mental issues sorted he will be one of the best LB's in the premier league no matter which club he is playing for.

Has always has been very fast and has a great engine on him, never stops running up and down the flank for 90+ mins. This is very hard to achieve and requires an extremely high level of fitness+determination, I don't think he is as lazy and has a poor mentality as many people here believe.

I hope that Mou isn't being too rash to judge him. He's quite a history of being like that (Salah, Thorgan Hazard, De Bruyne, Lukaku etc). Having said that, if Shaw lacks the attitude or fighting spirit to make it at the highest level then he's better off sold.

He’s clearly extremely low on confidence and let’s be honest Mourinho is not the type to build up a low confidence player. He’s still got the potential to be an extremely good left back if a manager is willing to be patient and put an arm round him.
