Luke Shaw & Reece James. Two fullbacks with powerful, stocky builds that get injured over and over and over again.

It can’t be a coincidence. That body type for a player in a position that runs more than any other in the modern game maybe just can’t work.

Shaw broke his leg

Rooney? I take your point though

Good thing Woodward isn't here, or he'd be drawing up a new 4 year contract as we speak.

There's no chance he can be left wing back.

His body can't handle just being a normal full back or centre back, no chance could he handle the workload of a LWB.

11th season with United, has been unavailable for close to 150 games in the last 8 seasons (including this season). He has 2 seasons in those 8 where he has missed just 5 matches, with the rest in double figures.

It is a shame that he has had the number of injuries he's had, it has got to come to a point that we have to get him off the books.
I've researched that before.

14/15: 21 games missed

15/16: 51 games missed (leg break season)

16/17: 38 games missed

17/18: 25 games missed

18/19: 8 games missed

19/20: 27 games missed

20/21: 8 games missed

21/22: 20 games missed

22/23: 8 games missed

23/24: 37 games missed.

24/25: 18 and counting. Can safely throw in at least another dozen on top of that after his Instagram post.

261 games missed in 10 years here.

And there is no getting rid of him now. He gets to hoover up £150,000 a week for 2 and a half more years.

Urgh, just when you think things might be turning around and we might actually start to have *options* in defence, and not just being forced to play whoever is fit in whatever position. But at least now we have Maz, our best summer signing, and de Ligt is playing ok too.

I spent some time looking too. I think if you include those matches he was on the bench for, of which many came during recovery periods it is 299.

People will be annoyed because Martinez is suspended.

Mazraoui will move over to the left and be typically outstanding. At this stage I'm confident Nous could replace any player in the starting 11 and give a 7 out of 10 performance.

I’ve said this about both for years. Hard to feel sympathy when a player won’t restrict their diet to allow them to remain fit.

Great player but can't be relied upon making him pretty useless for us

they are also both English. can't be a coincidence, obviously that's also why they get injured often

It’s hard not to be frustrated after his summer with England, infact it’s a piss take

A LB is a priority we can’t keep dealing with this shit

Being angry at injured players is one of those fan behaviours that I just can’t get my head around.

He’s doing all the tough bits and doesn’t get to experience the best bit - playing. And he’s probably getting rampantly abused every time he uses any kind of social media, and perhaps in public too. I was reading Phil Jones experiences as a perma-injured player and it sounds really dark.
I agree. It’s not the players fault if he keeps getting injured. It’s down to the club to identify and fix

He’s completely finished unfortunately. Every time he comes back he gets another muscle injury within a few weeks. Amorim couldn’t have been more careful with him. Brilliant player but it is what it is - we need to move on. The idea it’s deliberate is nonsense - his body has just failed him.

It can be if it's the root cause.

He's got the best in sports science, medicine and physios available to him, surely they'd have identified any issues and worked out how to manage his training and recovery to prevent these issues.

At best he needs to be a back up option on a pay as you play deal until he can get back to consistent fitness but I don't think he'd want that, plus no use to have a back up unavailable

Wonder how long a "small" setback will last too...

Massive shame, just when he was on a comeback. Frustrating for sure, but probably no one more frustrated than himself. He'll know the type of things people will be saying, and I don't buy that he just doesn't care to look after himself well.

Hopefully it is something short term and he's back soon. We've heard that before and it's unfortunately become much longer.

Really disappointed as he is made for that left sided central defender position in the team right now. I thought that moving him inside to a position where he doesn’t have to raid up and down the pitch might help him stay clear of injuries but alas it hasn’t taken long.

The sources are saying a number of weeks, which could mean anything but there is a feeling now that this is the direction that Shaw’s career is going to go down now and he will have a pretty sad end to his career. I hope that he can overcome this and get back to his best but I’m not counting on it now and I bet that Amorim isn’t counting on it either.

His contract runs until 2027 if we're lucky we'll find someone stupid enough to take him on the summer, if not he'll be another Phil Jones/Martial in the squad. His body can't take it anymore, nor he looks disciplined enough to get better. It's over.

It's a shame as the LCB role in this system would suit him, and ease some of the pressure on the CB positions with Maguire/Lindelof/Evans out of contract in the summer.

But he just can't be relied on in any way.
