I like him a lot as a player when he is fit. He has some of the same qualities as Mazraoui in terms of composure, skill on the ball and intelligence. But this is not sustainable.

Who would touch him though? He has a contract until 2027. I have a hard time seeing him leave before then, although not because the club doesn't want to get rid.

Shaw is also taking up a position in the squad that could be held by a player that's actually available
It is the club's fault. The club always had bigger fish to fry than replace or at least introduce proper competition for the LB position.

Nobody is going to take him even on free, let alone selling him.

The smart decision is to negotiate some deal and end his contract early so he can stop being embarassment for us. Say, if we pay him 2/3 of his salaries through 2027, it can be win-win, we save 1/3 of projected salaries on a player that has no chance playing even 1/3 or remaining games till 2027, and it should work for him because he can take most of the money and just retire to enjoy life instead of this bullshit of pretending to still be a footballer.

Yet people are saying he’s fat.

I think it's just his build, very similar to Rooney. He does look heavy at times, there's no denying it.

I know it won't happen and probably shoudln't for PR reasons but in the "normal world" he would be released. Laughable really. No way we can get rid of that dud, who in his right mind would buy mr glass?

Must the the most overrated united player also. He played 283 matches for us and got 4 goals and 29 assists - in his best he got 5 assists and 1 goal.

Bruno has played almost as many games for Utd.

Don’t most of these injuries come in training as well? I’m not sure he has much of a future left in football tbh.

At best he needs to be a back up option on a pay as you play deal until he can get back to consistent fitness but I don't think he'd want that, plus no use to have a back up unavailable

Wonder how long a "small" setback will last too...
The club gave him an extension on a big salary for an LB. We are stuck with him till the contract ends.

Much like we had with Hargreaves, Jones, martial ... These constant injuries suck for the player and for the fans.

I also do think we as a club need to be smarter with the contracts we give / extensions when we notice a trend with certain players.

Whomever gave him a long contract whilst we all knew he is injury-prone should go to jail. And as for not buying a left back last summer, despite our two choices being Shaw and Malacia, neither of whom played much last season - that is one obvious, huge FECK UP INEOS managed to produce in their short time being here. And their entire leadership was in place for that one, including Berrada, Wilcox, and Ashworth. Unforgivable, amateur hour decision

That was 10 years ago. There has to be something else at play. If he's still suffering from different muscle injuries after all this time, it can't always be pinned back to that.

With very complex, near career ending injuries like that, it absolutely can be. Some injuries are severe enough to throw off someone’s whole biomechanics, and there’s only so much physio and treatment can do when a body is put under the sort of stresses professional athletes undergo.

Sigh. Oh Luke. Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke Luke. Hard not to just feel pity for him at this point. Have to wonder when the time comes to listen to one’s body and admit the game is up. His body can’t cope with the little bit of football he has played, the club are being so careful with him and he still breaks down.
Enjoy your retirement lad, we need a replacement.

Agree with @Zumbi. We have no way of knowing the reality, we are not his doctors, but it is absolutely possible a 10-year old injury to turn into recurring problem as a player ages. He was injury-prone ever since, it's not like he ever was able to play even half a season without an injury, but it turned into horrible situation of he can't even play two games without a new injury, now that he is older.

Whatever it is, considering him as a player we can use for anything worthwhile is delusional, at this point and extremely irresponsible

Probably for the best to pay out his contract and have him leave in the summer, at least then we free up a spot in the medical department.

You can mutually agree to pay him up. Come to an agreement on the money, club save on NI contributions and pension etc.
The club would need to be very sure that they aren’t getting much more out of him.
For all we know, it could be a minor niggle keeping him out tomorrow, the type which gets worse if you don’t rest

When fit he’s one of our best, most consistent performers which makes it all the more frustrating. who starts at lcb tomorrow now then?

With the amount of moaning posts I thought he was properly confirmed out long term again.

Let's see what the prognosis is first. Might just be a minor setback?

Real shame with him though.

Any idea he could be the Amorim choice at left wing back is zero though, even before this.

To think I thought we'd actually have to decide who out of Shaw and Martinez will be the ongoing option there!
Will probably be more of a case of who actually plays there most of the time as these 2 are often out.

Oh ffs. Yoro probably has to start now. We should be looking to sell Shaw if possible. Worth nothing to us injured

1. Have some sympathy for him, always liked him, good player, speaks well, quite likeable tbh.
2. Not too much sympathy as he's getting millions while not playing. There are many people worse off.
3. How badly run is our club that he has 2.5 years left on his contract. A player who has spent most of his career injured. Why give him a long-term deal?

Minor setback or long term injury, he’s out on the eve of a big match which he was very much needed for. He can’t be relied on and it’s a problem for us.

Feel very sorry for him. Must be so frustrating to face another setback and to not be able to trust your body. Really hope this is what he writes, a minor setback.

Luke Shaw & Reece James. Two fullbacks with powerful, stocky builds that get injured over and over and over again.

It can’t be a coincidence. That body type for a player in a position that runs more than any other in the modern game maybe just can’t work.
But they're getting injured without playing. Without that running.

Why would any player agree to that?
If he’s confident he could get a new club in January etc then it’d be a no brainer for him too. Massive pay off and gets a new club paying a limited salary, but will have been paid 2/3rds or whatever of his salary that’s agreed for the contract with United. Happens hell of a lot in lower league football when players leave by ‘mutual consent’ then sign for another club the next day

He suffered from hamstring injuries before it though. He spent 3 months of his first out injured. He's been picking up muscle injuries his entire time at Utd.

He had complications with his old injury in 2022 and he missed significant time back then. I think it's a bit of a miracle he was able to play at the top level for a few seasons at a relatively consistent level after almost losing his leg. It's very obvious now that he was never going to have a long career afterwards.

He should never went to the euros. He should have recovered properly and been ready for this season.

I would let him go if some one wants him. No good to us injured more often than not.

I know we continue to beat him with this out of frustration and probably rightly so, but I don’t think any amount of rest would’ve made a difference when he’s this injury prone. After the euros, he had like what, 4-5 months to recover from whatever setback he had, then played like 60 mins from the bench just now, only to be injured again from training. He was going to be like this, with or without England involvement. Sure helped with the optics if he didn’t go with England, but can’t really blame him to be quite honest.
