Seen him playing in the u23's and he should be a confident, strong dominant character on the pitch amongst those team mates. He looks like someone trying to stay calm, not make mistakes and seems hesitant in going for 50-50's.

I don't think this is a physical issue at all, but may well be he is still suffering from the psychological affects of his injury. I really hope i am wrong and he comes back strong but he does not seem to be fighting for a place.

Finished here.
Not signing a LB was negligent.

Honestly reckon Mourinho would be happy to get rid and get someone else in but Woodward etc wanted Shaw to be given another chance. Concerned I suppose that he will go elsewhere and come good given his age. The club clearly didn't want to spend £50m on a left back with him, Darmian, Blind and Young all available for a left back spot.

Honestly can't see a place for him here anymore. He'll have to beat Darmian, Young and Blind to get his position back while he's clearly out of form and fitness.

To be fair, that's not exactly the hardest competition in the world is it?

If Shaw doesn't (eventually) win his place back against those, then he probably isn't good, dedicated, or motivated enough.

It's, because they're all fit and in form while he's completely out of form and his fitness level is still terrible and the only way to restore it is by playing a lot even if he's bad the first games. We can't afford him that, though, so can't see him beating even Darmian.

Why is it Ashley Young can play away in Russia on Wednesday and play again in the PL on Saturday at age 32, after coming back from a long-term injury, whilst Shaw in the same situation is still working on his fitness.

As it stands, I wouldnt play him ahead of any of those. Also I can't see how he gets himself the run of games required to justify consistant selection.

Cos he's a lardy fat arse who loves eating chips.

Some people just heal faster or Shaw's problem is more psychological than physical. Aymeric Laporte had a bad leg break and recovered in 98 days whereas Luke Shaw's leg break has taken years. Luke Shaw should be tearing it up in training to get back in the team, however, he seems content to sit on the sidelines earning 120k per week.

I think he needs a loan period outside the club to get himself consistant games. We should make an assessment after that.

As it stands, neither would I.

I can see Shaw (again eventually) getting a run in the team, but not until he is actually match fit and the likes of Young and Blind pick up a knock or need to be rested (I don't really class Darmian as much competition for the left back position personally, more so right back).

It is when they get virtually unlimited opportunities and you get the odd game where you're criticised for things that could easily be down to rust, then you're dropped again.

I just want Shaw to get a run of games again. If he fails, so be it. At least we'll know that we're right to let him go.

Jose sees them in training. Clearly Shaw isn't doing enough to get himself picked ahead of the others.

I'm confident he will get a run of games at some point this season.

Whether or not he takes his chance is another question.

Not really doable with there being virtually no time left on his contract - expires in 2018 with option of a further year which will likely be activated so he has some value when we sell him. If there was a chance of loaning him out, Watford would be a good option as their only left-back is 33.

I doubt he will make a meaningful contribution this season. He is still below form and fitness required for 1st team consideration: if he reaches that stage, he would have to displace already high performing Young and Blind.

We should defo activate the extension as he will eventually settle into a consistant level. Even if thats lower PL standard, we should be able to get 50% back on what we paid for him. Thats Watford option sounds ideal. Damn.

Young and Blind have had about 4 decent games. Let's not get carried away

Young has done very well but we all know he will get injured again soon. Shaw just needs to stay fit for the rest of the season and he'll get his opportunities. Up to him to make sure he takes advantage of them.

If Young gets injured, Blind will play. Shaw is the the 4th option in his place currently.

When will he be able to stay fit without playing at all ? When will his opportunities come ?

I don't get how there's so much to say in the performance thread about a someone who doesn't play.

My patience is also starting to run out. What bothers me the most is that he doesn't seem to even fecking try when he gets his chance. If we're livid, imagine Jose... Feels like he's gotten complacent and comfortable, too rich too early combined with injuries.

Give him another chance against Swansea, and if he doesn't give 100% they should fine him wages and let him do running practice on his own until the Summer when we go for Rose or someone else! Have a sneaky feeling City will go for Rose in January.. Cheeky bid to nick him?

Some folk have given up on him getting a chance this season with barely a 3rd of the season gone yet. They're letting it be known how much they don't rate him and he's a bum and should be gone.

He's fecked for me. The one thing he had going for him was that we desperately needed someone with pace who can overlap down the flank. The last thing Luke Shaw needed was for a player like Ashley Young, who is loved by every manager he plays under and who Jose trusts, to hit form and find his feet at left back. He's so far behind in the pecking order now, its going to be hard for him to get games.

What do people reckon his next club will be?

I cant see it being a top 6 team.
Depends if Rose leaves Spurs next summer and Pochettino is still at Spurs, I can see Poch thinking he can get the best out of Shaw.

Probably likelier he'll go to either Everton (with Baines turning 33 in December) or Watford as they need an LB.

The fact that he can't displace any of those names mentioned, tells me that he just isn't good enough.

Just as his mate Memphis (who is doing well at Lyon) did before him, he needs to go to another team, where he can try and kick start his career.

With regards to him being sold: because he is always injured/unfit, not many clubs would be willing to take a gamble on him (transfer fee + wages, for a player who doesn't play competitive football - why would any club pay for a player like this)? Perhaps a loan move might be possible for him?

Yeah, I'm all for getting a good left-back in January and sending Shaw over to relegation fodder until the end of the season. If we can nick Ghoulam or Rose under City´s noses it'd be a nice bonus.

Cant we take the (s) out of the thread title. Guy has only featured in one match. I dont think he will play more than 10 games this season for us
