I liked him tonight, aggressive defending, few good bits of play in attack. The boy is a talented footballer, lack of game time and confidence has got to him obviously.

I thought he was ok. Not involved a great deal. On the replay, his challenge on Wilson when the cross came in, was taking a risk, as occasionally you'll see a penalty awarded for a subtle foul, that makes a big difference as to whether the player can reach the cross or not.

Poor tonight. Should of given away a penalty for sure, and doesn’t play with any confidence.

It’s best for both parties that he leaves in the summer.

Felt he was just in to make up the numbers tonight and to give Young a rest. Pretty much the same as Darmian on the other side.

He was really good. Recovered the ball 3-4 times. Very talented player. Contributes more in a single game than Young does all season.

I'd suggest you brush up on Young this season, owned Salah and has scored match winning goals are just a few of his contributions.

Shaw was terrible on Wed. He was lucky to get away with a clear penalty/red card and he lost his marker so many times. Shaw volunteered forward but if he can't defend properly, what is he good for?

No he wasn't terrible. You've unrealist expectations if you think that was a terrible performance. Was pretty solid and got forward, should have given away a penalty, but didn't.

You people are nuts  he was absolutely fine.

Wilson was going to score unless Shaw did something, he put him off by giving him a slight pull.

I can't understand how people are seeing it as a negative, he literally took a small chance of giving a penalty instead of a clear goal? good decision IMO.

Get a grip, terrible? I'd play him against Spurs instead of Young based on the last two games.

Shaw may not have those contributions but we play better football with him in the team and he gives us much needed balance - even if he isn't individually outstanding all the time. I'd rather play someone who makes the team better.

The Jones one was far more blatantly a penalty yet not much is mentioned about that. We've been quite fortunate of late with the ye old penalty claims. Young on Aguero and now these two.
Just think having a left footed fullback adds so much to this team as Young just refuses to go down the line and his crossing hasn’t been great at all from LB. I’d rather put Young RB and start with Shaw.

AND, who was marking Wilson at that time? Allowing Wilson to run half a step ahead of him.....

I'd suggest you look at what I was replying to, rather than trying to make out I'm advocating for Youngs inclusion.

Not terrible, just decent. Still not satisfied tough.
And if it's about his crossing, yeah, terrible. He must improve it

Another appearance, another clean sheet for utd. Not a coincidence we rack up the clean sheets when he's playing imo.

Wilson is the striker, Jones should have been marking him but because Smalling and Darmian were out of position they all had to shuffle over.

Shaw did his best to cover but he could only get across from behind, what else is he supposed to do? Wilson is very fast himself and in that split second you cannot just run infront of him.

If he did, then the winger would just chip it to the back post and Wilson would then be free.

In the idea world Smalling would be covering the front post and Jones would be marking Wilson, Shaw would have his own marker running into the box.

It's not a coincidence. It's the direct consequence of him being played in the easiest games possible.

You're saying getting a clean sheet vs Bournemouth away is easy?
Comparatively, yes. Although I wasn't focusing on this game. He's generally played against poor opposition only, so us having a lot of clean sheets with him in the team does not mean a lot.

Definitely going to be sold. Can't even get in the 11 for an almost fully rotated side. Shame how it went for him here, he definitely had potential.

Brighton 1:0 Man Utd
Didn't do anything of note but still better as a left back than Young for the fact he's naturally left footed and can provide genuine width.

FFS just play him.

Probably won't see him until the game before the fa cup final lol

His final ball is terrible left footed or not.

Doesn't matter if he's creating overlaps and space for other players and not needing to crowd the middle by constantly coming centrally.

Can we aim for better from another player/him? Yes but he's still better than Young if he's given a proper chance imo.

Actually, maybe we could try Young on the right and Shaw at LB. Either way, 3 games left and he is done here anyway.

There is no fecking logical explanation of why would a useless sack of space like Darmian play instead of Shaw, when Young could play RB and Shaw LB. Yeah his final ball wasn't great but he was much better than either Young or Darmian when he came on, and you can bet he would have played better against that guy we made look like Ronaldinho last night.

Where have all the fat shamers gone?

Looked in fine shape last night.

Did well when he came on. The team notably improved. Got himself in good positions and should have received the ball more.

Shaw always looks fat, but I rarely if ever encounter a performance where that fat causes him to perform awful. It's just a dumb excuse used to call him lazy. It's the easy way to blame Shaw for not being on the pitch.

Strange isn't it....

Shaw and Darmian are the only defensive full backs we have. Valencia and Young are half & half wingers just playing at FB ; Blind is just a utility player ; TFM and Tuanzebe are not full backs and certainly not LBs ; and Rojo is a reasonable C Defender who looks poor whenever we he plays LB.

So if we sell Shaw in the summer, as lots on here want to, does that mean we will have to buy a new LB and and an understudy LB ?

Or maybe CBJ ( remember him ? ) is being lined up as the understudy ?

Pissed me off when he didn’t cross first time but took an extra touch when the ball was swept out to him in a great position. It’s no wonder his record of goals and assists is so poor.

This exactly. You’ll get people posting that’s why his performance was half decent last night even tho it was virtually identical to most of his performances.
