Very wary of any 'goal machine' coming out of holland if im honest, maybe unfair on Suarez he may be the dogs bollocks but there’s been sooooo many so called superstar strikers from holland and they all invariably seem to flop, Kezman/Kuyt/Afonso Alves etc, the dutch league is amateur compared to the premier league.

This is how I feel as well, he's too much of a gamble at the price that is being quoted, if he was ~£15m, he'd still be a gamble because he is from the Dutch league...so at ~£25m it's a huge risk in my opinion

Manchester United wants Luis Suarez Ajax loosen. The English team manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a bid of 23.3 million euros on the Uruguayan striker.

The interest of United for Suarez goes back to late last year. He was six times, the club was sufficiently convinced of his qualities.

Ferguson was also interested in Karim Benzema, but the French striker of Real Madrid is more expensive.

Suarez scored 35 times this year for Ajax in the Eredivisie. He has a contract in Amsterdam until mid 2013.

Reported on Sunday by the same source.

25 million is crazy. If we sign him I can't see one of Diouf, Berbatov or Owen being here next season.

He looks good to be fair, can he cut it in the PL - dunno?

Could Messi cut it here? It's always a gamble.

(waiver - the above post did not contain any comparison between L.Suarez & L.Messi before you slaughter me)

:D

Paul McShane is world class.

i wouldn't mind taking a punt on suarez for 20-25 million euros. he can play central or wide forward positions.

for every kezmans and kuyts, you do get a van nistelrooy.

Thats not taking a punt, thats big money outlay especially in the current climate, id be very cautious paying anything over 15 million for this kid personally.

Like forlan, its obvious the lad has a clean strike of the ball. a wide variety of finishes there.

IMO forlan in united post 2006 would've been good. It was a case of right player, wrong time. I think suarez would be a good addition for 15-20 million quid, which is 20-25 million euros. Our supposed bid was right on the money IMO.

Nice compilation...but it's literally full of defensive errors. Not that that's Suarez's fault - you can only beat who's in front of you. I just question how effective he'd be in the PL, what do those who've seen him in regular action think?

Alfonso Alves springs to mind. I remember a season (2006?) where he was literally banging them in every game, but he was no great revelation for Borough in the PL.

Looks a very agile and nifty finisher in that compilation, which is basically the same type of striker Chicharito is. This makes me doubt we're actually going for him, unless Fergie has something like the Yorke-Cole combination in mind.

Its almost impossible to tell how good he is without him going to another club in another league and proving he can hack it there first. There's no reason to gamble on him just because he's doing what Huntelaar, Kuyt, Kezman and Alves did before him. Most likely when he goes to a stronger league, as with the others, he will be shown to be not quite as good as he looked and therefore his price will go down. He could still be good enough to play here but we wouldnt have signed an expensive flop.

His goalscoring wasnt exactly impressive in this years europa league and the only decent team Ajax played were Juventus... He scored 2 goals in 6 starts(+ 1 sub appearance) and 1 of the goals was a penalty.

Ajax have slapped a £35 million price-tag on striker Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay international was linked with Manchester United over the weekend and has been a long-term target for Arsenal.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be willing to go as high as £20 million for Suarez.

However, Ajax are digging in their heels and Dutch sources say they are seeking a whopping £35 million for the pacy centre-forward.

Suppose that's the kind of shit SAF is talking about.

He has a Tevez type of physicality. He do ok in England physically.

I see. It seems some Ajax fans share the same view with you - High work rate - And they rate him highly too. One Ajax fan even laments the failure of Kezman as poor scouting by Chelsea as many football fans in Holland know Kezman to be lazy. Just an example to refute the stereotype after recent flops from Eredivisie. The price tag is crazy though.

The World Cup should provide a decent barometer.
