Luis Suarez

Wasn't Afonso Alves another South American footballer in the Eredivise, who looked mercurial at times, kept smashing them in but ulitmately there were reasons why he was never rated as one of the best in the world? I'll keep my own council on Suarez until I hear he's proving himself in a difficult league. It's easier to score in the Eredivise than in a brothel...

Would be ideal for a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation in which we could play. Ajax will never get that much for him so everything will rest on the player wanting to leave... I can't see much clubs going for him considering both Madrid and Barca are sorted in that position and Chelsea seem to have other players in mind.. I don't think any other club count.

I for one would be extremely excited if we managed to get Suarez..

Read this top quality mini-report to get a posters view on him..

The World Cup should provide a decent barometer.

In theory. But how many of the players we werent sure of before a world cup, then performed very well at a world cup, turned out to be duds? Most of them I'd say.

Still, better to score against some decent opposition than to not score against decent opposition.

I would hope we are trying to do a deal before the World Cup.. Besides We are hardly likely to spend as much as 20 Million GBP unless we are certain he is good enough.. I am sure our scouts have extensively scouted him.. He would make perfect sense for us IMO as he fits into our 2 basic formations i.e 433 (both as the wide player or as the central one) and can play in the front 2 of a 442 as well.. People are also saying he is a free kick specialist which I have yet to see confirmed but if he is that is always a plus as we are currently lacking one of those.. He seems extremely two footed and has a cool head on him..

He comes from Uruguay.
He's a player we probably won't buy.

nothing new .. the bit about him being happy at ajax and them not keen on selling cheap is old .

just rehashing old shit to keep the story going

it was 40m euros = 34m pounds
we had allegedly bid 20m pounds

the article just picked a nice rounded off number between those two

Prateik> Sorry, you're right, 40 m euros.

Devil may care> S.A.F. says maybe a signing so they guess it's striker.

I figure we actually need an AM for the squad and not another forward unless Berba is leaving.
if we continue playing a 4-3-3

if we go back to a 4-4-2 with 2 deep lying (not defensive) midfielders and a mobile front 4 , then we dont need any more central midfielders

It clear that we will be switching between both next season when the occasion suits. We do however have more than enough strikers/forwards at the club in terms of numbers. for Suarez to come in we need to consider letting someone go in my opinion.

Probably true, but I do think Suarez would be a great addition to play wide in that 433 or up top, competing with Berba as Rooney's partner. We can dream...

think he wont leave for less than 35million euro's - not exactly sure what that is in british pounds - but i'm wondering what Aquero would cost (considering he is the better player?), and, there's this talk about VdV for 20million euro's, so, if any of these story's have any truth to them, it looks like a spending spree after all..

I'm not, sadly.

I am however familiar with the (understandibly) stubborn fergie sticking by a player he moved heaven and earth to sign theory.

Well, there is also the "do not deflate your player's transfer value by openly admitting you want to ship him out" theory. Or maybe the "do not demoralise a player you're quite likely to still have on your team next season because he'll probably not fetch a decent price on the market anyway" theory.

Despite what Fergie says, if a decent bid comes in, I'm sure we'll to consider it. Whether such a bid will actually materialise is another matter.

Right now he's counting on one of Diouf, Hernandez or maybe even Macheda to step up to take that fourth striker's spot, behind an injury prone Owen. It is a little worrying. Let's hope things work out somehow.

El Kun... 50m and A.Madrid do not intend to let him leave for less than that. Suarez is probably going to be around 20m - 30m the price will of course be inflated due to many reasons.

The better player... is pretty hard to decide. Looking back at Suarez's 49 goal season and I'd say 20 of them were penalties while the rest was insane finishing plus 2 free kicks... El kun has played in a way tougher league but scoring a lot less and mostly is injured or not fit and i mean he might look the better potential but basing on current season's form... Suarez fits the bill much better imo.

Aguero isn't a realistic target, not just because of the ridiculous transfer fee we'd have to pay but also because he'd ask for wages that would dwarf the rest of our squad. Suarez would fit into our wage structure and as I've said he could play up front in a 442 as well as out wide in a 433, coupled with the fact he can actually take a free kick I think he ticks alot of boxes.

Correct. I'm a big fan of Aguero... but I won't take a 50m risk.

Ajax striker Luis Suarez admits he could leave the Dutch club after the World Cup.

Suarez signed a new deal with Ajax last season and his form has attracted serious interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

"Whether I stay depends on the coming World Cup. In football you never know. A World Cup is a stage of my dreams. The nice thing is that it is not something normal. Going to a World Cup is not the same as to the shop. Everyone wants to play on that stage," said the Uruguay international.

"As I look back on the season, I was top scorer and in some competitions named the player of the year. But Ajax was not champion and that is ultimately what it is all about."

It's understood Suarez would jump at the chance of moving to United should Sir Alex Ferguson coming calling this summer.

is he really worth 25m ?

Its not possible to tell if he's worth more than £15 million based on the games Ajax play. His record in the Netherlands is good, but worse than several of the "goal machines" that have played there before him and that was at a time when the league was stronger. In europe he's barely come up against a decent side either, the only one that is decent is Juventus. And despite that his goalscoring in these european games is unimpressive.

There's a huge flop factor for anyone who does sign him. We could have another, but much more expensive, Forlan saga.

huntelaar might not have had luck , but he hasnt done much
afonso alves was fecking shocking despite scoring 34 in 30? games and 7 in a game
kezman didnt do brilliantly
kyut came with a very good goal scoring record , was far from prolific at liverpool

nistelrooy was brilliant for us.

its not really easy to judge a player just by looking at stats from the dutch league .. having not watched enough ajax matches , i have no idea how suarez is
