Good then. Fat chance of him staying there since after today's 1-1 draw it's likely that PAOK will knock them out, if not I think they will be done by whoever they draw in another round.

Oh for the days when Ajax were monsters of Europe.

Oh for the days when Ajax were monsters of Europe.

I'd like them to make group stages but they seem incapable of doing so lately - I don't think they've been there in the past four seasons. And I still remember them doing well in 2003 when they were 60 seconds away from making a semi-final, think Shevchenko killed their dreams with a tap-in.

He's only cup-tied if Ajax make it through to the next round I believe.

Where did you get that from any link to some credible source to confirm this?

Yep. Playing in the earlier rounds does not make you cup tied.

That's not true because Ljajic played in the qualifying rounds for Partizan in the CL and was thus cup tied and hence could not be registered for Fiorentina's CL campaign after he signed for them in Jan..

P.S Here is the goal Suarez scored in the qualifier.

Is incorrect.
Why so?

According to section 18.07 of the UEFA CL regulations:

"As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for the group phase of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League"

I can assure you Ajax will either play in the CL or the EL which will in turn mean Suarez will be Cup Tied..

True, even if they get knocked out by PAOK they will probably still beat whoever they get in Europa League's next round and make it to the groups.

1 goal in 8 matches, joint 8th top scorer in Holland and Ajax's second top scorer behind El Hamdaoui

Not had much of a half against Madrid tonight, although he can put that right in the second half. I'm just glad we didnt take the big chance of signing him for lotsamoney in the summer like a lot of posters suggested, some even considering a £30 million fee a good move.

Still think he'd be a good signing for a team like Spurs, he's playing like a man that doesn't want to to be at Ajax anymore. He is on bad form, and not what we need but he is a classy player.

He's a classless player, but still a good striker. Just one that shouldnt be commanding the kind of fees banded about in the past year. If teams like Spurs want to pay £18-20 million on him then thats a lot more sensible.

He had a good WC so it was inevitable that stupid numbers would be flying around when discussing him.

The stupidness started well before the WC, because he scored a lot of goals in a poor league that a whole bunch of only decent strikers scored lots of goals in before him.

No player in the dutch league should be commanding figures above £20 million right now.

Hmm..that's very much very true. Bryan Ruiz has been playing well in that league but there's no telling what he'll do elsewhere.
Suarez sure is the best of the bunch there but he won't be more expensive than what you say. Santa Cruz was way over priced when City bought him and he was already a 'semi' proven goalscorer in the PL.

Ola Toivonen was linked heavily with Liverpool and some other side but the figure wasn't close to 20.

Only other one close to Suarez's price range would be Afellay if his contract hadn't been running out.

7 games? Seems a bit harsh if an elbow, which can cause serious damage, only gets 3.

Surely a bite can't be 'that' bad unless he has AIDS or is a vampire.

What is the "previous record" they took into consideration when giving him the seven game ban? Since half the article focuses on the World Cup controversy, one is lead to believe that that may be it, but how can they take into consideration his conduct in other competition not governed by their own FA?

Does anyone know if he has a record of violent conduct in the Dutch league?

The article also mentions a sending off earlier in the season for which he hasnt done his time yet

Has said he's staying till his contract runs out in 2013. Has given up the club captaincy with Steklenburg taking over, most likely under pressure to do so due to performance.

That sounds like a bullshit excuse. Spurs are a better team than Pool, and can probably offer him higher wages. I doubt London has anything to do with it.

"... Suarez would prefer Tottenham at the moment because he is a family-orientated man with a very young child and he likes the idea of living in London."

Really hope this is true: Spurs needs a new striker more than anything else and Suarez is my first choice transfer target for Spurs this window.

That and Liverpool are dogshite.

Anyone who has ever been to London and Liverpool would choose London. Especially if they're not English. Its a fnatastic place to live if you are a young millionaire

Don't underestimate teh lure of London over other cities.

His first child is 6 months old, it makes sense that he prioritises where his family would settle best. London vs. Liverpool is a no-brainer really, and London with likely Champions League football even more so.

He's just said he's going nowhere. Spurs and Liverpool would be better off with Cavani anyway

So what is so bad about Liverpool that he doesn't his baby to grow up in ?

 Liverpool is a complete dump, where 90% of the population live on benefits, and the remaining 10% have stolen enough money not to need to bother.

It's a tuppence-hapenny place really. Everyone there is bald, with multiple tattoos(normally bearing the names of old Liverpool/Everton greats) and if you go for a night out there, it's deemed a Biblical miracle if you come back with your wallet.

Suarez is best off in the south.

I give it 2-3 seasons before he fecks off to Spain.

He doesn't seem the sort to live in England beyond that time, especially if he does well here (which is still not assured given he's used to playing in a league where scoring is relatively easy).
