Luis Suarez

I won't say he's crap or anything based on one performance, but he doesn't look like the kind of striker who would thrive in the Premiership.

Looked like a poor man's version of Inzaghi.

Didnt do shit other than being caught off-side over and over again.

Same tonight as the other times i've watched him for Uruguay. I'm still going to reserve judgement on him as i'm sure there are other players who for as good as they are for there club find it hard to show it on the international stage.

My opinion of him went down for blatantly faking it to try and get Evra sent off.

Everytime I've watched Ajax he's look just about ok...

Anything more then 10 million is too much as far as I'm concerned.

The goal ratio in Holland doesn't impress me...not because his goals are of a low quality, but because defending is a foreign concept over there.

IMO He is set to be a Ronaldo like player.

I had my doubts about Huntelaar and I have serious reservations about this fella as well. He's definitely better then he showed today against France, but all this hype about him being Ronaldo, or even close to 35 million euro is mind boggling...

Based on what? Scoring in the dutch leagues with Ajax...a monkey gets into double digits in that league. It's a fecking joke...

Admittedly he was bad tonight but lets all just reserve judgement on him? FFS one game against a solid Back-line of France and suddenly he is shit? Even Gorcouff FFS folks just relax its one bloody game..

I think his price is absolutely ridicoulous, he is a decent prospect, but 35 million that is outrageous. I am not going to read too much into his performance today, when I wouldnt say anyone on the pitch played like they were United quality, Evra included.

Fingers crossed... I haven't been that impressed with him in the national team though. He is good, has some tricks, but the "level" issue is a huge question mark.

I never had doubts about Forlan as a top class striker and big game player, he never seemed to do it for us but always did for the national team. With this guy the opposite seems to hold, against Brazil or Argentina I wouldn't be expecting the winning goal to come from him. Nothing to do with gutsy displays, just out of his depth.

Would love to be proved wrong come the France game

And four months later, I still think the same. :(

Really?! What match was that?

I don't remember but i know the score was 13-0 and he had scored 9.

I saw it on livescores.com and I couldn't believe my eyes

PS: Oh sorry my bad, he scored just 7 in a 9-0 win.

On October 7, 2007, in only his second appearance of the season, Alves scored seven goals in his side's 9–0 victory over Eredivisie rivals Heracles Almelo,[2] setting a new Eredivisie record for most goals scored in a single match

I've seen lots of him in the dutch Eredivisie in the last few seasons, and although he scores a lot of goals there, I always thought he never really was United quality. Lots of people have disagreed with me because of his impressive goalscoring stats, but last night he showed exactly why I think he's not good enough for United. Defenders in the dutch league or defenders of european toplevel are two different things, and against the latter he simply doesn't have what it takes to upset them.

Also, pay attention when Suarez has the ball and runs at players. He's not very good at dribbling. He always runs straight at them without any kind of move to get passed them. He tries to run through the defender and usually ends up losing the ball.

Actually the only fuking joke is you think after one game at the world cup you have been proven right. Well done.

Hehe, so you still think he's set to be next Ronaldo then? Good...I'll make sure we revisit this thread in little under a month. ;)

PS. You're selling yourself a little short there, chief. From what I've seen you're player assessments are pretty well acknowledged as being joke as well. Don't get me wrong, I love reading them. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then. ;)

You did say Suarez could become as deadly as Ronaldo, though.

Face it, if anyone really watched the match last night, Uruguay's MF was miserable, they didn't have a ball winner and Suarez just lacked service, Forlan though had a good game and did try his best, but judging a player via 1 game vs France and to say he is underwhelming is just shit, Ronaldo had shit games, Messi had shit games so do you call them poor ?

I'd have more time for that argument, if it hadn't been for the fact any time they did put a good move or bit of service together, Saurez fecked it up by being offside. It'll happen sometimes, but some of them where he could see across the line and had absolutely no need or business being offside were absolutely criminal

Forlan had the same service and he managed to perform much better

There's not many saying he's poor on the basis of one match, most are just saying he was gash in that match.

And he was, regardless of poor service at times.

He's still a good player regardless of how he does in this World Cup, it's just this was his chance to show how good. So far he's not done anything to say he's ready for a big club. Should show much more against South Africa and Mexico because they're both very open.

Excellent post.

No, they aren't

This is the first time you see both players, stop lying.

You what? I've seen Forlan a fair bit. It doesn't suit him to drop deep but he's having to because Suarez seems to want to get in behind the defences far too often. I know Suarez is supposedly the more versatile one.

That's one problem I have with this thread. People are under the illusion any striker can be turned into a wing forward in a 4-3-3 and I'm positive that is not the case with Suarez. Suarez is NOT versatile, certainly not anywhere near as versatile as Diego can be.

Forlan drops back precisely because Suarez is absolutely useless at dropping back and creating anything. He is a fox-in-the-box player. What makes him a good goalscorer is that as soon as he gets the ball he is thinking about the finish, he has that natural instinct.

In the box that works, elsewhere you need to create the opportunity to score and he is not particularly good at that. The constant offsides and trying to run through players are no coincidence, it's his very instinct betraying him. He doesn't have the vision and patience to create the opportunities, he just wants to bang them in, which is a good attribute but only works in one part of the pitch (and is too limited against top-level opposition!).

you have a problem? too thick to express your opinion? C'mon, get it out of you. Thats what you do on a forum. Twatto.

Arguing on the internet is overrated, remember the internet is full of idiots with no idea about anything like you.

"He's shit because I say so" "NO PL QUALITY"

I thought he played alright... Sin a lot of talent in the lad and he always looked dangerous which is what you want from an attacker. I can see why he scores so much goals in the dutch league especially when he spends soo much time offside!!

Rooney was average today, do you think that he is not good enough for us?

Rooney's contribution:

Play Lennon in behind with a lovely chip on the turn(should've lead to a goal)
Play Heskey in behind with a lovely pass on the turn(could've lead to a goal)
Made the keeper sweat with a couple of very decent strikes from range
Provided a spark in the last 20 mins

6/10

Suarez's contribution:
Wait for a pass behind a defender
Run offside

2/10
