Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

Chamberlains goal was deflected a bit I think - even if it wasn't I wouldn't blame Migs for it.

Oh sorry mixed up the names - but still couldn't blame Mignolet, the defenders yes but it was deflected past the keeper.

I wasn't necessarily, he should never have got the shot in. Part of seeing the game out and being solid - we need to manage the game better.

yeah the defence were to blame - he ghosted past 3 players too easily.

Yes I agree we do need to manage the game better, but what has that got to do with blaming Mignolet, even in part, for that Ox goal ? He went past 3 defenders and his shot from 6-7m out was deflected past the keeper (no way should Ming have come out either with so many defenders who should have taken care of Ox).

Really ? Even with Chamberlain's goal ?
I thought it took a deflection off one of our defenders? If not, he maybe could've done better there but Ox should never have gotten the shot away in the first place imo.

But like I said, I think his days are numbered when Karius returns.

Annoying that what should have been a difficult fixture was a gift of 3 points instead with that Arsenal team. They will be up there with the top scorers this season though.

That really shouldn't be a surprise because Liverpool were actually the top scorers in the PL in the calendar year of 2016 (up to the end of last season) and we've since strengthened the attack. Now if only we could do that to LB and CM !

That was a world-class cross and there was a melee of players attacking it - he could have come (but that's a huge maybe) but he would have been unlikely to fight his way through them and even a slight dink would have sent it over him. I don't see many on the Liverpool forums blaming him for any of them - and they usually blame him for everything so that's a pretty good indicator.

What the hell are you talking about ? You're describing the Chambers goal.

No team has covered as much distance as Liverpool today (117.6km) since tracking was introduced to the Premier League. #lfc

And if you had read through you would have seen they already noted that
I didn't obviously.
And I said as much above. Not difficult to confuse them when people miss out the OXLADE that should come before the Chamberlain bit !
Shame on you, booo. I don't read threads in their entirety ;)

Back at the start of the 1987/88 season Liverpool had to play their first 3 league games away from due to work being done underneath the Kop. We played Arsenal away first game & won 2-1. We then went on to winning the title by 9 points & played some incredible football along the way. This season we've had to play our first 3 games away from home due to work being carried out on the main stand extension. We played Arsenal away pretty much 29 years to the day when we beat them 2-1. We won today too. & if anyone's interested United finished runners-up in 1988.

You need more than that buddy

Liverpool are unpredictable and will probably finish higher than expected. Most of their players aren't in their prime yet, so it is very difficult to predict what they can achieve. If 2 out of Mane, Coutinho, Firmino and Origi improve in leaps and bounds, the may even challenge for top 3, if not for the title. No Europe will be a big plus for their style of play. Coutinho and Mane were outstanding today. Still early days though.

Liverpool will do alright with their strength and quick attacking but they've always been game raisers against top 4 so impossible to judge yet.

We had a dodgy defence a couple of seasons ago & still finished on 86 points. So long as you're capable of scoring more goals than the opposition for the majority of the time then you've got a great chance. I think we'll score a lot of goals under Herr Klopp.

You can't base that on one game though, if I can remember correctly you had a few similar games to this last season. When teams like Arsenal play a super attacking game, Klopp thrives. How often are you going to come up against teams so open and vulnerable as Arsenal were today? not very often. I would personally love to play you tomorrow, as I know Mourinho wouldn't set up the way Wenger did today against Klopp in a million years.

Wouldn't disagree with that. But I think the lack of pace seriously hampered us last season. I reckon we've addressed that issue this season, so I think we'll have another angle, other than plain old possession, in which to try & break down the stubborn sides.

Good game that, just watched it. What a goal from Mane. Moreno was even worse than I could have imagined though, disaster of a player.

Liverpool seem good going forward but still shaky behind, same story with Arsenal going by this game.

Pretty entertaining game.

Some quality goals, especially the Mane and Chamberlain ones. Some good stuff individually. Coutinho's free kick goal was perfect.

How many times does this need to be proven wrong before you lads will cotton on?

He's not a left back. Neville tore him apart for not being aware of the danger around him and that challenge on Walcott for the penalty was madness.

Mickey Thomas.

In all seriousness, good result for them. Took advantage of Arsenal being in disarray like normal at this time of year.

I agree with the post on here earlier, I reckon Liverpool will finish between 4th and 6th.

There's truth in it. Of course you can't ignore defending but the modern malaise in defensive organisation (highly effective in the Benitez / Mourinho era circa. 2004-2009) means that aggressively attacking opponents is a pretty good way of approaching matches in the PL. Heck, it's hardly out of the question that Liverpool could've won it with such an approach.

Only 37 games left for Klopp to save our season. Hope everyone is well rested for next weekend. :D

By between 4th & 6th, do we mean 5th? #OnlyAsking

Dismal from Lallana giving the ball away like that & exposing (((Albie))) who was already augmenting the counter-attack with his phenomenal pace. Unlucky with the slightly mistimed tackle on Theo, too. #ComedyGoldLiabilityInnit

Useful win in the scheme of things. 3pts away at Arsenal definitely not to be sniffed at.

Yeah for sure, Neville was largely right in what he said too imo. I know we like to single him out on here, but he surpassed expectations yet again, reinforcements there are so needed. Milner doing a utility job isn't enough for a season, even without CL/Europa.

Neville was spot on - at one point he sounded like he was being a bit apologetic for ripping into him so hard, probably thinking that people might interpret his analysis as being bias because of his Utd links. Not at all for me - he was completely honest, good to hear someone really say it like it is.

Thought there were a few minutes just after the pen & goal that 4-5 Arsenal players went into Moreno's corner to try & be over there to play against him. Possibly my imagination.

Wrote this this monday in the rawk-section of the forum...

Look... I understand they hate us, we sure hate them. But despite the hate you have to be a little bit objective and face the truth, right?

When I look at their team and their new signings I'm quite sure they'll do alright this season. When fit, Sturridge is quite a good player, Firmino might not be a world beater, but occasionally performs really well... same can be said about Coutinho and Can. Mane will be good for them and his pace will cause problems for many teams. Quite sure he'll score at least 10-15 goals for them, maybe more if used correctly. From the midfield and upwards they've got quite nice players. But what I don't understand is what they're gonna do at the back. Mignolet is in all honesty an average keeper at best, and his replacement smells like Taibi. They seem to be losing Sakho which might not be the best around, but as many others an ok player. His replacement is some estonian player who noone have heard of. They'll be winning some games with ease and I don't think scoring goals will be their problem this season. The problem will be that Mignolet and Taibi will be picking out lots of balls from their own net. This might be better suited in the serious Liverpool thread... but now comes the part why I'm writing this over here...

Seems I for once was spot on :)

Great performance but no back bone in midfield by arsenal the gaps were too big, defensively poor too. Liverpool starting brightly and their options mean they can beat anyone on their day.

They played some nice stuff today but I can never enjoy their football because most of their fanbase are just such massive deluded cnuts.

I think I will enjoy watching Liverpool games this season. Klopp is certain to play his high octane football. I think United may have a few issues when they face Liverpool with the pace that they have. Their obvious weakness is defence. They need to get rid of Moreno ASAP and get proper defenders. If I was Klopp, I would immediately hijack the Mustafi deal. There are no other top defender available.
I just don't like their hyper nostalgic weird support base. So cringy
