Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

Totally different players. I'm very excited to see what Grujic can do though, a very exciting and combative attacking midfielder who's still only very young.
Allen and Grujic are different players completelty but Allen leaving gives Grujic more opportunities to play in our midfield... I didn't say they were the same type of players. We haven't had a midfield that can get us a decent amount of goals so hopefully Wijinaldum and Grujic change that for us.

Mate - you didn't mention Allen at all ! You said we failed to get Dahoud and then went on about Grujic, hence my comment :)

You cnuts will have some competition for Dahoud next season if he continues his form

Its a pragmatically sensible squad. Apart from Coutinho and Sturridge (when not injured), their squad has no top players per se. But they all buy into Klopp's system and gegenpressing, and together they make a pretty exciting team, as we saw the other day.

And Origi.
And Firmino.
And Mane.

Origi has a long way to go before we can call him a top player. He's shown flashes of his potential but lacks the gametime and consistency right now.

He's consistent when he plays. Just needs to force his way into the XI on a regular basis.

I wouldn't mind seeing him start with Sturridge tomorrow if possible but I'm pretty sure Klopp will just go for one up front with the three attacking midfielders behind that.

Yes, very much doubt that we'll start with two strikers. Though I do think Origi will start.

Utd showing that you have to beat the piss easy teams put in front of you. A Koeman less Southampton was poor and seen aside without fuss. Beating Arsenal is fine but we need to do the same against Burnley.

I think it'll be Sturridge personally but I'm a fan of Origi. I like what he gives us when he's playing up top. As @Dumbstar says, regardless of who plays we need to be beating Burnley tomorrow. Anything less will raise the same questions that we usually have about why we can do it in the big games but not against the lesser sides. I think we've got the attacking talent to get the points though.

I fancy you to beat Burnley nice & comfortably. What are your next 3 games after that? Chelsea & Spurs away are 2 aren't they?

Could be interesting. Flying start & Title Challenge, :(.

Last sentence is key here indeed. It would be so fecking typical to drop points against Burnley tomorrow, and you just know they'll put their lifes on the line tomorrow as they've already lost a winnable game last week. It certainly won't be easy, that's for sure. I also hope to see Ings in action as a sub and Can as a starter. Lallana to the right if Mane is injured.

Burnley and Spurs away before we play Leicester at Anfield. Then it's Chelsea away after that. We've got a League Cup game with Burton Albion after Burnley but that'll probably be second string/youth players mostly.

OK, thanks. so if we say 9pts from 15 is something like par and a liittle bit better, for the fixtures, this could be looking quite promising. COME ON THE FOXES !!!

And Mane.

One young striker who showed potential towards the end of last season, but is yet to show some consistency.
Two attackers who have hot and cold games and you never know if they put in a match-winning performance or go invisible.

They are good players, but by no means some of the best in the league.

I'm going to cautiously assume we're going to win tomorrow. I'd say we'll beat Leicester at home as well so it's really the Spurs and Chelsea games that we may drop points in. 10 points from 15 out of Arsenal, Burnley, Spurs and Chelsea away with Leicester at home and I'd say we will have done well. I can see us losing at Chelsea.

Really ? Southampton played well and could have been on terms before that ridiculous penalty. How on earth the ref gave that I'll never know - did even a finger touch Shaw before he dived ?
EDIT : seemed I missed Clasie's knee touching Shaw's leg.

Southampton really need a striker though .. they could have had Benteke and given us some of the millions we've donated to them over the past few years. Tadic was Tadic .. hitting all corners of the stadium.

United were typical Mourinho. Boring. Of course the title is the target but watching your team of assembled stars playing Southampton like they were Barca ....

Stick to making up stats.

There is actually a video of Clasie's knee colliding with Shaw's right leg. May have actually been a foul.

I'm pretty sure it was a penalty. Clasie definitely made contact with Shaw.

Yep. 6 points up on last year too, under Van Gaal we were pretty decent against the top 6 but lost too many games against the rest. You should beat them tbh, classic english team in that they are hard to beat and arguably had the better of it vs Swansea, but were goal-shy. If you can get one you'll get another and it's hard to see them being able to put more than one past you even you are depleted.

Burnley 2:0 Liverpool
Seems to me the only consistent thing about Klopp's Liverpool so far is that they'll blow hot and cold with alarming frequency. Burnley doing a job on them today.

When rawkers says we're only leading the league because they haven't played yet.
Bless them poor souls.

Enjoying your game?

Ah - I only saw the replay once, and with Chinese commentary, so missed it.
You'll struggle to find a more obvious pen the look on clasie's face said all you needed to know really.
Edit: just saw you abortion of a post above.
Team of stars needs to jel and being able to win whilst doing that is a great sign. We've had a terrible pre season yet won silverware and our first two opening games whilst under a new manager and playing style.
Liverpool on the other hand still look shit, with a manager they've been able to work with for awhile. We'll treat who we like how we like and win, under klopp you'll continue to play sweaty football until the players are injured and run into the ground.
Already enjoying 2016/2017, come on Burnley

Liverpool make the same mistakes every season. They spend so much money but almost never on the right players. They've signed so many mediocre players over the last few years, when instead they could have bought a few top quality players to strengthen their spine.

Think unless they change how they play we will beat them comfortably to be honest. Rubbish defence and we have so much power to just batter them with.

Press us if you want we'll knock it long to Zlatan. Pep did something similar to that once with Bayern against Dortmund, he played Martinez higher up the park.

I'm loving it ha they might even come back yet but this shows you that if you beat the initial rush Liverpool are soft as Kittens in defence, so much optimism to lose this year I can't wait to read me some rawk meltdown posts later

Been saying this all summer, they haven't bought the right players. Liverpool fans are kidding themselves if they think the likes of Klavan and Wijnaldum are good enough. Also, how the feck hasn't Klopp bought a left back yet

What game were you watching?

Hope that 3-4 win over Arsenal isn't going to be the same as our 8-2. Hammering a shite Arsenal side and taking it seriously.

Not a single world class player at that club. Liverpool are asking too much of Klopp inmo.
