Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

1. Coming from a Liverpool supporter who has over 3,000 posts on a Manchester United supporters forum

2. I don't have more posts in the Liverpool-related threads than the Man Utd related ones. But nice try! :)
99% of my posts are on Liverpool threads or other general football related topics, just because I enjoy the game (and I like RC because of the diversity of supporters from clubs both domestic and international). You should see how many posts I have on actual Liverpool forums ! :)

Various reasons for that, there are probably more Liverpool supporters on here than the likes of City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham combined.
There are always Liverpool threads running, I can recall (Rafa would agree), that there have been times there have been several LFC threads running at the top of the football forum at the same time.
This thread for instance already has 14 pages more than the similarly titled Chelsea one and the City one is I guess well down the pecking order.

Guess you just like talking about us and having our fans on here ;).

It's great having different Club's supporters here, it's what makes RedCafe the best footy forum around IMO.

Please keep contributing to the forum, the community is better WITH you than without :)

To be fair Redcafe (rivalry aside), has always welcomed Liverpool fans who post sensibly and respect the rules and I think we appreciate that.

Origi's goal against Milan was beautiful. He could really surprise a few people this season, I believe.

I enjoy reading yours, @Bob Loblaw, @Rafateria etc input, keeps things interesting and balanced.

Most of us are mature enough to leave the footballing rivalries aside when debating the game I think.

I agree mate - it will be interesting to see how we line up though especially if Sturridge is fit. Playing one up when we have potentially Sturridge, Origi, Ings and Firmino, not counting the likes of Mane, Coutinho and Lallana obviously could limit his chances with no europe either.

The wrongfully called offside one was probably even better. I'm certainly very surprised by how good he looks.

It's hard to say how good he will be. I really liked the look of Martial last season, very impressed with him. Origi could be our version of him, though as it stands he is not as good.

I think Origi should start the season as first choice. He's already proved he can fit into Klopp's style of play. Sturridge, if we're being honest, hasn't yet.

Probably sound like a broken record but I'm unconvinced that his injury hasn't destroyed Sturridge's acceleration.

Yeah Martial is further along and there is less doubt he will progress and fulfil his potential. He looked like he had been playing in the prem for years (right from his first game, grrr lol

Origi combines strength and power with real pace - if he can keep progressing from last season he is a handful for any defence. Will be interesting to see who lines up against Arsenal - Origi fits Klopps work rate and pressing game much more than Studge, but he won't score as many goals.

I think he has lost some pace, but I still think when fit Sturridge is our best striker, it's nice having options.

From what I am hearing from pre-season so far Sturridge (and Henderson), have both said they feel it's their best preparation ever so hope that is a good sign for us.

Hopefully the pre-season does fix the pair of them. Last season both were pretty dire - Sturridge didn't even look arsed for a lot of it, hopefully we'll find out that it was fitness issues causing that.

On Coutinho:

I've been thinking about this for some time, but to me, one of Coutinho's greatest ability is the vision to play the perfect through ball for a runner to latch on. With a fit Sturridge, or an insanely persistent Suarez who creates the space for others to run in (Hendo benefited quite a bit from that too), Coutinho had some marvelous games in 13/14.

Without them, he struggles a lot more. I'm thinking the cause of the inconsistency is also him lacking a little extra in his toolbox? He works hard in all the matches I've seen him play and he rarely goes missing like some No. 10s (*cough*Rooney*cough*), but he does seem to run out of ideas in breaking down a tight defence.

On our third kit:

Ye gods, what is that awful thing? It reminds me of some hi-vis uniform.

On Origi:

This could be a good season for him. Origi, Sturridge, Ings... that's not a bad strikeforce.

aye a bit of a sickly green, to be fair some lads I know who have seen it close up quite liked it.
I don't like the second kit either, never understood the fascination with black kits (whether it is more of a charcoal grey in appearance I am not sure).

Very unsure of what to expect from Liverpool this season. Feels like it's a coin toss between them "overperforming" and being properly in the mix for a top four spot, or being a season "on par" (with my expectations) struggling in the next tier down (6th to 8th or so).

To me it doesn't seem like they have a strong enough squad for a top four spot, but I'm afraid Klopp could very well make them click, and get a few of their players to elevate their performance levels significantly.

Origi doing well wouldn't be much of a surprise to me. I thought he looked very dangerous towards the end of last season.

Not to the level Liverpool fans do. How many attacking talents greater than Ronaldo have you had over the years?

Harry Kewell, Florent singa Pongo Pongo or what his name was, Le Tallec, Ryan tower of Babel etc.

And how many Liverpool fans have said those players were better than Ronaldo? I honestly can't remember hearing our lot at any time overrating them. Most think they were dogshite.

Mostly RAWK fans. Admittedly that is unfair since RAWK must be some sort of haven for the more deluded fans of LFC.

He surprised a few people last season too in fairness.

My lad is severely disabled, be more careful with your words!

I am sorry, Sir. I retract my words. It was totally unnecessary and tbf a fairly stupid thing of me to say. I will edit my post.

hey mate, all for a bit of banter but no need to take it to that level.

@Finn MacCool , agreed. Idiotic way of wording myself. Have edited the post.

To be fair, every club has its forums where the 'special ones' gravitate to. Ever visited Republik of Mancunia?

Never been there. I haven't visited any fan forum besides the Caf. Used to stop by the official United forum every once in a while but after reading about 2-3 posts I stopped.

No problem, I am a bit over-touchy on those kind of things. Hard to explain really.

No hard feelings mate.

Hey Swansons - no problem. My nephew is special needs so it kind of hit a nerve.

A blip in an otherwise perfectly wumming relationship between Liverpool and Utd fans. Its all good mate.

He surprised a few people last season too in fairness.

The surprise is the continued surprise. He'll be 'surprising' a few people on here by Christmas too.

I just hope oppo managers and players keep buying into all this for as long as possible.

I am quite puzzled by Pillock Origami's rise under Klopp. During Brenton's reign he genuinely looked terrible, but now all the sudden he looks quite the prospect. I think he thrives under the continuous pressing and high tempo setup of Klopp.

He is no Rashford though :)

Origi was bought on raw talent and as much as I overrate our purchases I had no doubt how good he was. I did NOT want him being loaned out - the move to the shittiest defensive team in a shit league (Lille) destroyed the young lad. Rodgers continuously playing the political game with FSG by choosing inferior strikers so we missed open goals while Origi (committee buy) rotted away.

I vehemently defended him after French football and French media labelled him the worst ever foreign player to darken their leagues. Yes French league - that bastion of mediocrity and meaninglessness. Check out the Origi thread last summer and most Utd fans input. Most of them are now 'surprised'. His season ending injury was a killer for him and us. Facking awful.

I swear you say that about every manager and player you've had the last how many years. It was especially funny when you said it about Rodgers. This time however, I think you might actually be right on how highly you rate him. He seems to have some good potential.

Rodgers hurts. It's like finding out your supposedly loyal wife actually just hated your guts. Bitch.

Origi is our Sturridge replacement because I think Danny is finished.
