Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

He needs more games as he is clearly not firing at anywhere near 100% yet, he did come back late due to Copa America commitments though. I've no doubt Klopp will have him ready in time for the start of the season. This potentially could be a good season for him as with with the likes of Sturridge, Mane, Firmino, Origi and Wijnaldum ahead of him he could get a lot more space to work in and at the same time have fast and intelligent runners in front of him. We look on paper to have an exceptional forward line and if the midfield does well enough then Coutinho will have a good season.

Cheers, him and Wijnaldum are 8 mil each so will have a go.

Completely baffling that we havent yet brought in another LB. It's no surprise Lovren looks a million times better playing on Clyne's side. In fact I remember the one time he did have to switch over resulted in a rare poor performance for him in the second half of the season, Sakho is pretty used to covering Moreno and doing a good job of it but if we want to solidify the defence then having a competent LB would help, otherwise that side is going to be heavily targeted and whoevers playing LCB is going to be crucified for Morenos mental deficiency, really is a thankless job.

As for the game, we were a touch slower in our transitions although I'll put that down to it being the first USA game along with gruelling training sessions.
The worrying thing is seeing some of the same problems that hindered us last season still manifest themselves, Klopp has said his main weapon will be training sessions and I hope that the extended time this season will give him enough time to perfect the team in every detail. Still not a fan of Zonal and the bigger lads in this league are going to have a field day if our players dont organise and man up in the box, apart from that we defended well and we played better than them to I thought, but then again how many times have we said that last season only to get beat?
Results matter more and being better than your opponnent 75% of the time is pointless if the remaining 25 % is them making the decisive contribution.
Still in pre-season we should be working on team play and team goals, if we see an improvement and more of a move towards a Jurgen Klopp team then I'll be satisfied, individual quality shouldnt be whats winning you games at this stage.

Lets hope Klopp gets the issues started before the season starts!

I'm not too worried about Liverpool again. I fully expect The inevitable Sturridge and countinho injuries will happen and they'll drop points and be inconsistent as usual.

Signings are pretty meh too.

I'm fecking devastated. The one position we genuinely did improve on and this happens :(. How many mirrors did we smash ffs.

Apparently, it was when he went to clear a cross during the Chelsea game and accidentally punched Lovren's head.
This confirms is that Croatian skulls are made of titanium.

Also, The curse of set pieces strikes Liverpool once again.

Lovren has basically cost us points already without a ball being kicked . The injury is made worse by the fact that he dropped out of going to the Olympics with Germany so that he can start the season with us. Oh well, hopefully whoever we have at CB is an improvement on last season.

This is basically the reddit thread summed up in one Caf comment

How long before Balotelli starts to get blamed and abused on twitter by angry liverpool fans for this setback? :D

Is Loris that good? I thought he was signed as backup

Pretty sure he was signed to start. No idea how good he is, I haven't seen him enough, but as he isn't Simon Mignolet it's a huge blow.

Thats a pretty impressive punch from the keeper, misfortune for him it connected with Loverns stupid head instead of the ball

Dippers will always get a lot of injuries under Klopp because he runs his players into the ground.

And yes I know the GK injury isn't his fault, was just saying.

Mancs will always get a lot of underperforming players under Mourinho because he runs his players into the ground.

And yes I know this is entirely irrelevant to the discussion, was just saying.

Mignolet rewarded with a new contract after the poor season and now his rival for the spot breaks his hand. This guy is so, so lucky
