Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

erm okay then - haven't a clue what your reference to Lallana, Sakho, Toure, Lovren, Allen, Ings has anything to do with who we have signed so far.

Our new signings are completely different, signed by a different manager for different reasons! Toure and soon to be Allen aren't even LFC players anymore.
What the heck has Toure got to do with any of them and what is the comparison?
Weird....
That post literally made me LoL ! Referencing different players, ex-players and Benteke, then veering off at 90 degrees into consistency and anther tack into fitness (both issues which can affect any team and have nothing to do with who we've bought) and then an about turn of 180 degrees to the past and talk of someone to build the team around. As you say Weird, or maybe just someone who's had a drink or two too much before posting !

Think he is saying that the signings you have made are of similar Ilk to the time when you guys signed all those players. Lovren Lallana et al

Basically that the current signings will have the impact the mentioned players had.

Yep that bit I think.

Fair enough it was just a very odd comparison.

My son in law (2b) is an LFC fan, so when I asked him last night about their new signings, he said that the new Goalkeeper who's name escapes me is (his words) special !! And that he plays like a younger De Gea !! In what way I didn't here because I was too busy chuckling to myself !!. Pool fans is he right ?? Thanks in advance

If he is anything close to De Gea we will be delighted.

To be honest knew nothing about him until he signed, but from what I have learnt since he was regarded as one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga and Klopp rates him very highly.
Looks strong and commanding, something Mignolet isn't. Hard to say anymore as we haven't seen that much of him yet.

Fingers crossed he is shite then, thanks Johnny

If Matip performs at a similar level as Lovren has under Klopp, I'll be satisfied with that. I'll be even happier if our new leftback is also at that level.

Also happy for Mane to perform at a similar level to Firmino.

I do expect Karius to be streets ahead of Mignolet though.

And watch out for Grujic. That kid looks a bit special.

Rumours were swirling around yesterday that we could be about to sell Brad smith to Bournemouth for £6 million. Excellent deal if we can get that for a nothing more than decent youngster.

He is still in America and hasn't agreed terms with Bournemouth, and we will put a buy back clause in there too something we have done with a few of the deals this summer. Assuming he wants to go there.

Joe Allen having a medical at Stoke today.

Yep Bournemouth agreed to a buy back with regards to Ibe so hopefully the same with Smith (if he does want to go there like you say). These Chillwell rumours are not dying down either, at this point I would rather just get a second or third option like Amavi. Actually if Amavi can recapture his form for Lyon then we really could have some player on our hands. Feck knows why he went to Villa.

I am hoping , as we all are, a left back is sorted soon. Not convinced by Chilwell as I am thinking he might be back up to Moreno.

I can't believe, accept Moreno is going to be first choice.

Chilwell is a really strange one. He has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal for quite some time despite the fact that he has barely played any first team football to-date.

I know, I don't quite get it either.

No no. Don't even entertain the thought of Moreno starting next season. The main reason Klopp has my backing 100% is because he knows who is good enough and who isn't. He's identified that the likes of Skrtel despite being a good servant for the club are no longer at the required standard. After the amount of times i saw Klopp screaming at Moreno last season, he must replace him . I want Amavi because if he signs for us he will definitely start imo.

Don't expect too much from them. Their transfers so far give them a better squad depth but don't really strengthen them. I expect good cup runs and they'll definitely upset s few big teams because of Klopp but I'll predict they finish 5th-7th, nothing more.

Well if your SIL 2B can't remember his name then I wouldn't take anything he says seriously ! Karius was voted the #2 keeper in the BL lasts season by his peers. Manninger reckons he will be world class and that he is the epitome of a 'modern keeper' (meaning he gets the ball moving quickly after gathering and he's happy wilth the ball at his feet) plus he's supposedly good in the air and a good stopper. I don't know if he's anything like De Gea (wowsers if he is !) but even from the little I've seen (clips from training and the the friendlies he's played) he certainly seems to be all that - let's see if it holds up when he's playing top teams and over a full season.

Your son in law (to be) is (obviously) young and excited to see his manager signing new players to replace proven crap. He's overrating Karius and comparing him to De Gea just as....you lot were when you signed De Gea from Spain. Before De Gea came most Utd fans had hardly heard of him, other than reports that he was up and coming in Spain. We all chuckled when you heralded him to be the new king. Now your son in law has heard about Karius' high praise in Germany and is doing the same. Hindsight chucling vs foresight chuckling and all that.

Anyway, we don't know if Karius is special yet. No one is special in the PL until they've proven themselves to be. Us 'Pool fans are just happy we've addressed the goalie issue, whether we've addressed it poorly or brilliantly remains to be seen.

Oh boy  I came for peace and was being nice to share my thought on Liverpool but I got 2 lol from @johnny boy and @Rafateria who couldn't understand my post at all. It wasn't too hard to understand it really. I was just using some of signing from recently as a reference how the quality of your signings weren't any different with what you did this summer. Although it doesn't mean you stand no chance for top four if somehow the manager can get the best out of the current players and Sturridge is able to stay fit for the whole season.

Well... I just googled (images) for ''Moreno with Klopp'' & it produces some properly magnificent WUM content disturbing pictures fro you guys i can tell you. like father & son it is.

he new his name is forgot it!.
Anyhoo he can't be worse than mignolet can he ?

He's a talented left back, but him having a year left on his contract and not seeming like he wants to stay at Leicester is probably a bigger reason for the links.
He supposedly played very well against Celtic a couple of days back (their goal came from the other side of the pitch). As you say he's highly rated even though Fuchs kept him out last season (not surpassing considering his age). I get the feeling Klopp will persist with Moreno and try to coach defending into him, at least until his 'understudy' (whoever it is, Chilwell, Amavi, Willems - though he is reputed to be another Moreno in style) mature and break through. I'd prefer a 24-26 yr mature FB SVP.

Just friendly banter Mike - are you sober yet ;)

If these signings from Bundesliga of Karius & Matip by Klopp aren't an improvement on Skrtel & Migs then I don't what you do other than start worrying JK might not be the answer after all. In fairness, every German based report/remark (bar one) that I've read suggest that both will do well.

They certainly seem to be at least one step up but probably more. Proof of the pudding though ........ I do like that they came from the BL and not, for example, France or maybe Eastern Europe, gives me more confidence.

Aye, seems a reasonable line of thinking to me, Rafa.

This BTW was an interesting comment from Klopp yesterday :

“I've heard that people have been talking about (Ragnar) Klavan as our fourth option (at centre-back). Wait and see him play and then tell me again that he should wait until all the others are injured or something."

I don't think there's any doubt that Matip is #1 in Klopp's mind. Klopp also likes CBs that can bring the ball out of defence, and that's all of ours bar Ragnar, even Gomez is (very) good in that respect.

That said this is the PL and a powerful defender and header of the ball (who can contribute at a both ends) may be just what we want (alongside Matip - himself very respectable in both those areas) when we consider how we concede the majority of our goals (set pieces). Matip & Ragnar made the #1 and #2 highest number of blocks in the BL last season. So I won't rule Ragnar out of partnering Matip, he may prove to be a surprisingly astute signing. At least until I see him play that is, as I'm embarrassed to say I've never noticed him (except he did well twice for Augsburg vs. us in the EL last season).

Everybody who has seen him play in Spain knew he was special. He won the Europa league at 19. Not many 19 year old goalies do that. Karius hasn't even been called up to the German squad. Even Ziegler has been.

Glad you sobered up now Mike :)

I agree on this :)

If they want to strengthen the defense, start with centre back and keeper first. Liverpool fans shouldn't be worried too much to upgrade their left back Moreno. You look at Spurs last season had the best or second best defensive record. They have a solid pair of centre back, keeper and Dier who does a good job to protect support the defense. I don't think their left back Rose is that good.

You are definitely right on the keeper and centre back - problem is Moreno is an absolute liability defensively. We have to get a replacement in. Really hoping Klopp doesn't still persist with him.
It has been a problem position for years for us.

I think you should speak for Pool fans only. Most United fans knew he was one of the best young GKs. You don't win EL as a 19 year old goalie unless you have some real potential.

except he did well twice for Augsburg vs. us in the EL last season

Aye, I noticed that. Or rather, I didn't notice it at the time, but it's something people keep bringing up as an argument in his favour. Which it is - I suppose. But I presume Klopp knows this player very well, so he won't have brought him in on the basis of his performance in those matches.

He seems like a solid enough, albeit completely unspectacular, defender. The comment you quoted is interesting indeed. Unless he's simply talking him up because people have already questioned the signing, it would seem he considers Ragnar as something beyond a mere backup option.

Perhaps it's a genius move - it better be, though, to put it like that, if he intends to use him as a regular starter.

Also, as mentioned in the RAWK thread - Ragnar is an old LVG signing, from his AZ days.
