Kylian Mbappé | Player Performance Thread

Who's he?

The prince of Monaco.

I saw a direct quote from him recently, its clear he has more than a passing respect for them

Yeah, he was asked about PSG being interested and he said that it was a great club and that it's an honor to be linked with them. Every french players say this type of things, Lacazette and Ben yedder were the last one.

He is sure proving it this season isnt he?
Proved it more than enough last season, I like Rashford and all but 3 good games and suddenly everyone's crawling out of the woodwork again.

I'm sure you know his face, you have to google it in google images.

It's Prince Albert Piercing. Piercing is the surname.

Oh, and you don't want to do it at work. It's illegal to do such things at work you silly.
That can't be unseen :(

The point is that no one could be the topscorer with those minutes; he would need to have been scoring a goal about every 25 minutes which is ridiculous. Saying 'is he top scorer in all the competitions he plays? nope' to downplay his ability when that is explained by the minutes he's played is somewhat dishonest.
not really. I would rather someone does it for a full season and posts full season numbers. E.g. in the past some players will have nearly a goal a game for a full league season. He has 12 league goals in 12 starts (I'll ignore the sub appearances to make his record better). I saw Vardy scored for like 11 games in a row or something so it was an amazing run, but it wasn't until he showed me he could score 25 league goals, that I got excited.

His record reminds me of Javier Hernandez when at Man Utd. outstanding goals to minutes. Chicha had 10 league goals in 949 mins of football. Mbappe has 12 league goals in 1064 minutes of football. Chicha had a very good CL goals to minutes ratio also, just like Mbappe. Lets see him emulate this form over a season, to see if he is real. He may very well be, but I don't think he should be leading the line for anyone great because he has a solid goals to minutes ratio over half a seasons minutes. Lets see what his record is like after
4000 minutes!

Well, with talents like him, its also a case of move early or don't move at all. Unless he decides to stick to Monaco for another season turning other clubs down, we won't have the luxury of time on our side. We either get him from Monaco or we don't get him at all because lets be honest, we aren't pulling him if he moves to a Real Madrid.

I feel most clubs will wait for another season.

SO based on his last season form you're comparing him with Rashford's present form? Bro they're both young, saying one is better than the other right now, especially since Rashford has been better this season is some serious tinted glass shite going on. God knows what will happen buddy, don't be so certain about everything.

This young man simply has to be bought if possible, his talent is immense and he could be a future world class player. Him and Rashford together would scare most defences already.

Guy can score with his left, with his right, with his head, can pass is lethal on the counter, has impeccable dribbling, is showing his quality at the highest level but nah, better wait.

It's like meeting Monica Belluci in the streets, she's seen you, but nah, wait until next week to talk to her when she doesn't have makeup on.

PSG tried to recruit him last year and doesn't negotiate when the player isn't interested at all, on the other hand he ended up chosing Monaco while he would already be in Paris if he really wanted to.

The Spanish press mentioned a possible €90m offer from PSG in the summer while according to L'Equipe Nasser wants to see more of him before committing more than €40m. I have no special hopes of seeing him in a PSG shirt.

The football world has gone crazy. I remember the days when young strikers had to score goals for a number of seasons, before the talk of a big record move. (Torres, Ronaldo, Zlatan, Neymar, Benzema). Now, literally all a young striker needs is to do well in his break through season, or 20 odd goals to his name, and then you get the hysteria "We should sign him," "Real Madrid will be all over him" "he'll go for a record amount" etc etc. There is an anxiety to not miss out on every young player. I think he stays another year. See if Monaco and rely on him for a full seasons title charge

Hey!

IMO, the issue isn't really his age or his price but our tactical system.

We don't have the players ideally suited for a 4-4-2 system and it doesn't make sense to send Cavani or M'bappé on the bench.

Even if our recruitment strategy is odd, I don't see the current Monaco selling him to us.

Hey!

I don't think he's a 1 trick support striker.
For PSG and most big clubs he could move to this summer he would start on the left wing doing his best CR7 impression, then either stay there or slowly transition into a main striker.

I agree Monaco could be less likely to sell to us while their team can directly compete with us.

You're right: he could be deployed as a left wing-forward just for 1 season and as a main CF if Cavani is injured.

If Cavani is capable to play on a wing, then any forward/striker could do it :D

Anyway, I don't see him joining us next summer

That's all fair, I guess. I'm more impressed by him scoring in every knockout CL game so far tbf.

I am absolutely serious. Mbappe has a long way to go before he's at Griezmanns level.
Nah he's already there and it's becoming more obvious with every match he plays. He's having as much an impact on this current CL as Griezmann has ever had in his previous campaign while being so young.

Just because he's a kid there are some that are still looking for evidence of god knows what. This boy is doing things that other world class players haven't been capable of doing. His game is already at an extremely high level which make it extremely hard to see exactly what it is he could be doing better. Those that doubt his current level are like those that used to doubt Neymar a few years ago, just blind to the facts.

If he's as special a talent as people say he is, then given he's quick, full of energy, has terrific movement and a nose for goal, then this sounds like a no brainer. Get one CF who can hold the ball up and let Martial, Rashford and Mkhitarian float in behind creating havok. Play with tempo and pressing, and we can make a young team work.

We can get him if we can offer CL footy. Monaco are currenlty better than United, create more chances for their strikers and will be in the CL next season too. And Real, City, Bayern will be interested as well. Besides, Martial's struggles under Jose won't fill Mbappe with cofidence.

Pogba came here without offering him CL footy but I'm not sure that other big clubs were interested at signing him at that price. And maybe they were right. He's been quite disappointing so far. He has the physical and technical attributes to be the best CM in the world but his decision making is average at best and quite often just poor. Juventus aren't missing him at all.

If we sold Aguero and bought Mbappe how would that be viewed here? Aguero is clearly the better player, but he's 29 soon and typically struggles with injuries. Pep has already shown his liking for a Jesus type player too. Just interested to hear an outside perspective...

It would be an upgrade. Aguero is one of the main reasons your defence is under so much pressure. He loses almost every single ball when playing with back to goal, his passing decisions are usually terrible, his finishing is lacklustre and it's taking him 2 to 3 clear cut chances to score goals. City create so many great goal scoring chancesin terms of volume and quality.

When he eventually does beat his man and is running into space, he runs with his head down and tries to bulldoze defenders but just loses the ball. Outside of the area he is a terrible footballer and the only thing elite about him was his finishing and that has gone because of the amount of running he has do, he becomes lethargic in front of goal. His injuries have meant his ability to turn defenders and win one vs ones duels have almost completely diminished and his burst of pace he had when he was younger is gone.

Mbappe is faster, better aerially, better in the channels so he can swap with Sterling and Sane and Manchester City won't lose their rythm, he is better at holding up the ball and makes better use of his teammates. He would be perfect for Pep Guardiola's position game. The constant pressing won't affect his game because he is young and takes care of himself. Aguero's diet is one of the main reasons he got inury problems and he even went to the Dr who solved Messi's injury crisis by changing his but its a little too late. The chickens have come home to roost.

Although I largely agree with your comments I do feel you are a little harsh on Kun. But I think we already have Gabriel Jesus who is clearly going to take Kun's position.

I guess adding Mbappe would give us 4 players rotating for the 3 forward positions with which would be nice.

Mbappe would get more than enough playing time. The drop in quality from Sane Jesus Sterling to Nolito Navas and Kelechi is far too large. Considering Manchester City will be fighting on all 4 fronts again Mbappe can only supplement your squad. I would even go as far as saying that another forward is a necessity. If the Sanchez rumours are true he would be fit the Manchester City team like a glove.
